Apollo sat in the command chair. It was late, 0300 the bridge clock read. Apollo had taken the night shift and was watching the view screen. A young ensign approached him with orders to be signed.

Apollo shifted in the command seat and signed the orders. They were pretty standard orders and Apollo didn’t even need to read over most of them, but he did anyway—he didn’t want to screw thing up and feel the wrath of the Rear Admiral.

The science consol at the rear of the bridge started beeping. He stood up and walked back to the consol—it was nothing major, much to his relief simply the computer notifying him that another spectral scan of the area was complete. He sighed and tapped at the consol starting another spectral scan. He wanted to make absolutely sure that what he wanted to do was feasible and that he wouldn’t strand them in the future for good, before even thought about taking it to the Rear Admiral.

As Apollo returned to the command chair he went over his plan again in his head, it really wasn’t the difficult in theory—just in application. He starred out the view screen for a while: was this where he was going to die? Would they be stuck in the future forever? Or would he or someone else come up with a way to get them back. Back to where they belonged—home.

He sighed and turned his attention to the light beeping on the screen at his right singling the end of his duty shift. He sighed stood up and strolled out of the bridge.
