Paramount has informed us that they will be discontinuing their "Open Chat" rooms. This means that the Starfleet Lounge room will disappear for good as of January 14, 2004. There will be a transitional period, after that time, when all STSF sims will be running in the STSF.NET chat rooms on this site. Then, once the new chat system at STARTREK.COM is operational, the Holodeck and Ready Room, only, will return to STARTREK.COM using a new chat interface and we will continue our sims the same. More information will be provided as soon as we get it from Paramount. Thank you.

Will the new rooms be PeopleLink or is a different company heading them up?

Hi,

 

Here's an offer to the stsf peoples. If needed, I can offer access to my personal chat network for sims and etc. It is an IRCd server, and would possibly be a little more stable and functional than the stsf chat rooms.

Well no it will (as it says in the notice) remember all your current information so you don't need to worry about that. How long will the rooms be down probably not too long not as massive changes as last time. Your other 2 questions all I can say is probobably :lol: Hope I helped

As far as your question(s) Garnoopy, in many cases we simply don't have answers. But I'll give it my best shot...

 

1) Unknown. Some early estimates say two weeks. Some are longer. This means, in reality, no one has a clue. :wub:

 

2) New rooms will not be hosted by PeopleLink.

 

3) New features...really not known. A good possiblity though.

What you were reading about concerned your current STARTREK.COM account profile. The unresolved issue with the new rooms (run on the DigiChat software, hosted at Paramount itself) is whether DigiChat will be able to accept the STARTREK.COM registrations or if people will have to register a chat name directly with the new chat software.

Well, STSF has used this board system since we started and at present there are no plans to change the arrangement. Hopefully the new rooms will get installed in a timely fashion and STSF events will once again be back at www.startrek.com.

 

Open chat such as "Starfleet Lounge" is probably gone forever on the official site.

Ahh, now people can't recruit others for their ships.. that's how I got recruited into my Non-STSF sim. :lol: lol. That, I think is the only thing it was good for anyways. Though I haven't been in there since May. Though I do hope that it'll be easier to log into than the Peoplelink rooms. Though, will GMs have speical priviledges like kicking out unruly members? I was wondering about that a little..

From what Paramount has said, the Startrek.com Community Section will be back operational by January 26.

 

Open chat (i.e. Starfleet Lounge) will no longer be available.

if we are unhappy with the current chat system, Quick Chat has a pretty cool chat system that I used on my now defunct website... try it out! It has some modding controls (choose who can mod, de-mod a person, etc.,etc.). Totally free and has a really simple code generator for the link to the applet. Just a suggestion :lol:

Oh yeah...pretty popular applet seeing as the site got hits/uses in the 5 millions since May '99. :wub:
