New Cadet

Hi everybody! I'm new here and can't wait to start Academy training! I'm pretty new to Star Trek, but I'm already hooked (there was a TNG marathon on SpikeTV yesterday  )! Ummmm....that's about it.

Was yesterday's marathon your first exposure to Star Trek?

Welcome aboard! Any questions... ask... no matter how silly or stupid you think they are. Everyone is very friendly here and has been in the "Cadet" shoes so we know what it's like.

There is a "Custom Titles" thread in the Questions and Answers section of this board. That is where you make your avitar caption request.

Welcome aboard.

There is no Academy sim on Saturdays, the next one is Sunday at 11:00 PM, ET. if you check the STSF Schedule, you'll see when all the Academies take place, including times and time zones. Welcome to STSF.

Actually, there is an academy at 12:00 AM EST tonight, though for me that's technically not Saturday.. for me.. it is after the Red Star Lounge.

PS. Oh and welcome to STSF. Best of luck in academy, and your future career on board our fine fleet.

Welcome, Do you have a pop-up blocker, or you might not have the latest version of java which runs the room, just some suggestions

Whooops, Seiben is absolutely right, there *IS* a late Saturday night Academy. So much for my eyes.

As for any chat room problems, you should make sure you have the latest version of Java and the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) loaded on your PC, as the rooms need that (and need you to have logged in with a valid startrek.com account name).

Good Luck!

:) Welcome, Holden ! Hope you have lots of fun here! And seeing Trek for the first time...that's so great! See ya in the simms!

And if you, or anyone else is interested, even as I type this our Rover is making its way onto the Red Planet! The European Space Agency's Beagle2 still hasn't barked a reply. But the Rover (named Spirit) is making its entry through the atmosphere right now. This article explains more, and I have a quote from it. This is really exploring where none have managed to go before. I hope we manage to land our little Rover safely! :)

Rover Spirit Landing On Mars

January 3, 2004 11:03 PM EST

PASADENA, Calif. - A NASA spacecraft turned toward Mars late Saturday, facing its heat shield toward the planet to protect itself during the fiery plunge to the surface.

The 18-minute maneuver began about 90 minutes before the Spirit rover's highly anticipated landing on Mars. NASA warned that communications with the spacecraft carrying the six-wheeled robot would be spotty during its descent.

Confirmation of a safe landing could take as little as 10 minutes, or as long as 24 hours, NASA said.

The spacecraft completed its turn about 10:30 p.m. EST, and was expected to reach Mars late Saturday.

Also... if you're using the default Mac browser (Safari)... it might give you some issues. I've known it to have trouble with Java. So try grabbing a copy of IE or Netscape directly on ya mac and giving it a try. Also make sure ya Mac does indeed have updated drivers for Java. Very important to have updated Java. LOL.

Good luck.
