A Lonely Marine....

A Marine’s Report

SD: 10401.02

Since leaving the Arcadia, those many years ago, I have found it quite difficult to keep my mind off of her.

I often find myself daydreaming when I’m alone in my quarters, or at lights out. I wonder what the Arc is doing right now, or how her crew is holding up…. Or even if they’re alive… No no… surely I would have heard word if something tragic like that were to happen….

**McHale stands up, and straightens his uniform. He slowly walks over to his bathroom mirror… and runs his fingers through his “High and Tight” haircut…. As he stares at his small scars from the incident in the bar on Lodi**

I’ve assumed command of my old Company, Able Company of the 74th Strike Group… Home of my 27th Sniper Unit....However my return has been all but pleasant. Upon returning to the J1 station in the Guantanamo system, I found myself in the Middle of a War for the two Inner planets of our system… G-1 Heron and G-2 Loki. Brioran commanders thought it wise to enter the Ares expanse… and try to snatch away two planets from Marines determined to keep them….. Needless to say, I led a sniper team into position when the Premier of the Briorans was on G-1 Heron, to Motivate his soldiers…. Laying down for a week and a half in the same position in mud that was roughly 6-10 inches deep…. For the right time…

The Premier began his speech, as I slowly loaded one ancient earth .308 caliber round in the chamber and shut the bolt.. Seconds later, the Premier of the Briorans was laying on the ground with a hole in his Trachea, and soon died of suffocation. I was awarded the Federation’s Silver Star for Heroism in the face of danger.

That week I didn’t feel like much of a Hero… For not 3 days later, Staff Sergeant Hollingsworth “Popeye” to most, died in an explosion from a plasma grenade during an assault on the Brioran Command Post in the Fremoria Highlands on G-2.

**McHale sighs, and looks down at his chest… showing his medals, then to the Silver bar on his shoulders…**

They’re making me a Captain today… For meritorious and outstanding service to the Corps. Master Sergeant Piper has assumed the position of my Chief NonCom, and we’ve promoted up one of the corporals to take the place of Popeye…but I never knew it could be so hard losing one of your close friends. I wonder how my father felt when he lost his friends…

**McHale looks up towards the heavens… in memory of his father**

Dad, take care of Popeye for me, until I can get up there….

**McHale tugs furiously at the collar of his Dress Blues, when his comm badge goes off..**

+MSgt. Piper+ Where the hell are you Cappy!? You’re goin to miss your own ceremony.

**McHale Tapps his commbadge**

Thanks Steel, I’m on my way….

**Looks again in the mirror…**

Just like old times eh??

Yea….. right.

Computer end Log…

**Computer Chimes**

**grabs his dress sword laying on his bed, and attaches it to his belt, and walks out of his quarters.**
