40 posts in this topic

Reports coming in state that at about 8 p.m. local time last night Sadam was captured in a small town about fifteen Km south of Takrit, his hometown. At the press conference, video of a shaggy and unshaven Sadam were shown during his medical examination, several reports jumped up and cheared, yelling "Down to Sadam, and Death to Sadam" at The video of him. Iraqis, near, in, and around Baghdad celebrated the capture of their former leader.

Which now raises the obvious question of what do we do with him? What kind of a trail will take place, a military tribunal, which is what is being down to other suspected terrorists at guantanimo? Only time will tell.

Well personally what do I think should happen to Saddam really nothing because when you look at it Saddam didn't really break any crimes other then defense of his own country and belief structure. If we do something to Saddam that only leaves the right that people can do things to our leaders well I think a lot of Americans would like that one but you know Bush did break several laws in his war on Iraq but I will not discuss whether his choices were right or not because I see this topic being deleted or blocked in the future.

Why is everyone so concerned with the capture of Saddam anyways he was already defeated anyways why do they need to do anything to him further they have already taken everything he owned and had lived for and left him as the man in the pictures above. If you ask me its all just that same as in the ancient days where the leaders of fallen lands were made for public excuetion and then their heads paraded through town. Then again what also can be said for a land that takes its own citizens down to Sryia where the CIA can legally torture them but thats another story for another day and most likely another forum.

It's the fact, that some of his more, less sane, believers would believe that someday, someway he'd come back. And besides, many people did suport him, espically people in his home town, due to the fact that he made their lifes luxurious.

Even if Saddam wasnt in power, he still had hold over certain areas of Iraq, because people were still loyal to him. Now that he's in our custody, they might rethink blowing themselves up for him.

If you kill Saddam as they most likely are going to do or even imprison him for life they will only make him stand as a marter to the fallen regime and will only give strength to his many supporters in Iraq allowing people to grow more into the thoughts of Saddam and having him gain more and more support turning everything back to how it was before. Now another point if you would notice that the people celebrating the capture of Saddam compared to those celebrating the original fall of Iraq is far less meaning that the recooperation attempts in Iraq are actually going slower then CNN and other areas of the media would like you to assume.

They're not going to kill Saddam, he's too valuable. Once the coalition squeezes every bit of info on him, he'll probably be stuffed into some deep, dark hole Quantonamo Bay.

Saddam didn't break any crimes?! Don't make me laugh! That's like saying Hilter or Stalin commited no crimes! He invaded Iran and Kuwait, killed countless thousands of his countrymen, supported terrorist suicide bombers in Isreal.. not to mention the large number of Kurds he gassed. People in the streets are celebrating because the man that caused so much death and starvation in Iraq is finally gone. Nem, you need to get your facts straight before you post!

Well my friend the invasion of Kuwait and Iran were in another war and also Iraq had been bombed numerousily over a 12 year span by America so they are quilty of most of the same crimes. Now how on earth can you compare Saddam to Hitler, most information on Saddam Hussien you recieve from American news channels and Geogre Bush so most of his supposed crimes against humanity in that respect are fabricated greatly.

Now also why did America go to war? For weapons of mass destruction which has been proven that all of Saddam's WOMD were destroyed by the year 2000 which means that America was unjust in the war for the reasons it stated in going in for and also shows that they were using falsed information in the accusations on the Saddam Hussien regime, which of course only harms their so called evidence on the crimes against humanity which should also not be considered because they were of course crimes on his peoples and not those of foriegners as why the Nazi head peoples were charged for such things because they were doing things to non-Germans.

Now there is also the view that the Iraqi people can live on a differant morale structure and Saddam's actions can be justifyed by that morale structure. Now you can also consider if Bush deserves to be tried for the same thing because what about all those poverty stricten in America such as Native Americans, The ghetto populations, and all those denied proper health care because they do not have enough money and proper insurence. Now I just say its easier to blame Saddam but its happening on the great ole Red White and Blue soil and even happening throughout Canada and every other country in the world. The only thing Saddam did differant was method but the ends are all the same no matter what method you choose and most of us are guilty of it like when we don't give charity when we could've.

A valid point, and don't get me wrong. I'm against the US invading Iraq as well. They say they were there to destroy Saddam's WMD, but where are they? The US was just in it, so they can take it over, place a puppet government in place and take their oil. I do agree with you, Nem.. but Saddam has commited crimes -- lots of them. Not as bad as Hitler or Stalin, but still big enough. Anyways, what's done is done. Though, I wouldn't be surprised one bit of some kind of terrorist retaliation in the near future.

The thing is legally Saddam has commited no crimes, morally thats something for the individual to determine. Well he has commited crimes but those have been settled a decade earlier and now the ones he was charged with were proven false and his people were his people. I must ask if America are such concerned about people and their safety shouldn't they go to Africa and go help all those former slaves who were dumped there with basically nothing and all their skills from the traditional African culture gone and basically left for dead which has only lead to constant civil wars and now basically no chance for survival unless they continue civil wars but thats a topic for another day and another forum.

Hundreds of mass graves still have to be exhumed and inventoried ... it is estimated that under Saddam's regime over a million people have been murdered. His regime -- not through Coalition actions. His atrocities are documented and when he comes to trial in Iraq and before for the World Court, you will see victims come forth in droves because they no longer fear him or his minions. Thirty-five years of terror. Yea, I guess he wasn't as bad as Hitler or Stalin.

He was worse.

Ummm Dac do you know how many people Hitler killed, 6 Million jews plus millions of blacks, gays, and other not up to his standards thats nothing like Saddam's 1 million and again thats only going by one source which has been known to falsify records.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. Saddam's a bad dude and deserved to be caught, but Hitler and Stalin were much worse than Saddam. They kiled off many more people. This isn't over though.. got a gut feeling of that. :)

Saddam was a political enemy of the US. It had nothing to do with his actions. The US has supported leaders that have done just the same as he.

Dont forget that this is all about politics. And of course oil. Securing an economic future for America is important.

Bombing the heck out of civilians from overseas is worth it if my gas prices go down.

:)

I'm sick of hearing all this American propaganda.

First off, Nem, your really not making alot of sense. First, to be a maryter, you have to be dead. If your not, you just some smelly old guy locked in a prision.

And secondly...WHAT the ******!!!! Of course he'd get crimes against humanity. He cant just kill countless Iraqi's and say "It's ok, their my own people." Thats not an excuse, thats not a loop hole, your ideas, and beliefs are seriously off. It's true that many of the Jews, Gypsies, Gays, Communists, and all others that Hitler thought to be inferior, were not German, some of them were. Bottom line. You can't get away with Genocide, and crimes against humanity, just becuase your the peoples leader, or dictator in this case.

If you've read any of my posts, you'd know I'm no friend of Bush. I hate his "shoot'um up aditude" I had an aching feeling that their were no nukes, or mustard gas, or dynamite in that country. It doesnt matter, you cant say he gets off just because there was no bombs.

Nem next time KNOW what your talking aobut, before you make a statment that is WRONG and extremely offensive.

We were there to find weapons. Then we just decided to run out Sadam and give another country a democracy.

Now I'm started to get ticked off by some people, if you want to debate this debate with facts and actual evidence not stupid propaganda. I am sick of people telling me that Saddam is guilty legally when all the UN laws say that he is not. I disagree with him being tried by the world court and not the Iraqi people because the UN has no business in this because under UN laws he was justifyed not by the laws that could be decided by the Iraqi people now if people would read what was first giving in this topic by Travis

Which now raises the obvious question of what do we do with him? What kind of a trail will take place, a military tribunal, which is what is being down to other suspected terrorists at guantanimo? Only time will tell.

you will notice that he specified "WE" like we deserve any say in the crimes that were not caused to us but those of the Iraqi people so now before people try to shoot me down get the facts first because it does get quite irritating and it would be nice to have a discussion like adults
