Character Development

I need help with character development. I have done quite a large amount of research but can't find many answers to the questions I have.

1. I would like to have a character that is Half Caitian and Half Human. I'm not sure if this is possible, but from the way some sites speak it sounds as though it may be.

2. How do you define a name for a character such as this?

3. How to build a good background.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Kavikevleagh

I have developed one part of him. He wishes to be a Starfleet Captain, preferably in command of a Galaxy Class Dreadnought.

First off welcome to STSF and seeing you in academy earlier I am pleased to see you have taken interest in remaining :)

Well, since the Caitans have been around since TOS or more appropiate TAS so it maybe have been that they have bred with humans over the century unless you plan on joining the hood then I'm not too sure, now there is not much information about them because they are not considered canon trek and TAS is not as big as other series where most available information can be seen, your best bet for information on Caitans more importantly simming Caitans would be BluRox who has much information on them :)

Thank You. I've solved two problems now with your help and a website I found at http://www.geocities.com/caitian_tourist/index.html

I have figured out a name, S'Ralov, and even managed to get it spelled in Caitian. :) .

Now what I need is character background. I'm lost here. I'm just not sure where to go.

Thanks,

Kav

This is what I have so far. Any ideas would be appreciated.........

Rank: Cadet

Current Assignment: Starfleet Academy

Full Name: S’Ralov

Date of Birth: September 14

Age: 17

Species: Caitian/Human

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 145 Terran Pounds

Place of Birth: San Francisco, US

Parents: Unknown, was left at Starfleet medical within hours after birth with his name on a message pad lying in the blankets with him. He carries the message pad with him to this day.

Siblings: None Known

Education: Current Student at Starfleet Academy

Marital Status: Single

Children: None

Fur Color: His fur, that covers his entire body, is Orange w/ white stripes. Not like a tigers it’s a very mellow light orange that mixes with the white through out and the white mixes with the orange making for very indistinct stripes. His tail, which is easily concealed, is only half the size of a normal full Caitian’s.

Eyes: Odd for a Caitian, he has Blue Eyes that are not as cat like as a Caitian, but almost human. Showing emotion through them as humans do.

Distinguishing Marks: S’Ralov looks very much Caitian, but unlike full Caitians, he does not have a full mane. It extends only to his shoulders. His face is a slightly more human than most Caitians with almost no muzzle and his ears are almost completed hidden beneath his mane. He has a single scar that runs from the beginning of his left thumb up to his elbow. This happened in a fight as a teenager. No fur grows across the scar, but other fur fills in to almost fully hide it.

Because his only half-Caitian his hearing, eyesight, and sense of smell are not as good as full Caitians, but still remain much better than normal humans. He also has an easier time with English being half human and having been raised with it as his first language.

Background: S’Ralov is a newcomer to Starfleet. Growing up in an orphanage in San Francisco he grew to know Starfleet very young and made that career choice. Due to problems with students in school and being unable to identify himself he was given the nickname “Tasmanian Devil” which has since been shortened to “Taz”. This was due to his reckless ambition and his constant fights. At 17 he has calmed down tremendously during his first year at Starfleet Academy, and though he no longer lives up to his original nickname of “Taz” it has stuck as being easier for humans.

A couple things I wanted to throw out... it's up to each individual CO/XO team to decide what is appropriate or is not appropriate in bios for each sim. So I would hold off developing the bio too far before you graduate. Or talk to the CO/XO teams of the sims you are looking to join and see if it would meet with they're approval.

I would also suggest making your character a little older. Starfleet Academy in the series is like most military schools. So you would want to be at LEAST 18. I would suggest having the character finishing school around the age of 22 (typically around 4 years of extra education). It adds a little more to the believeability. lol Just a suggestion.

I agree I jumped the gun. But I had fun creating him. :) And I can still do a lot. I'll have to see where things go from here.

Hey there,

Having fun is a big part of it! But while a Cadet, don't make your primary focus on developing your character. They'll be time for that later. Let your main goal be getting the fundamentals of the game down. The rest will come later. :)

exactly, the mystery allows that. mine are deader then dead...unless i go for the swapped babies thing but that's too soap opera-ish even for a station sim!

Well, I wasn't after as much mystery as I was being able to fill it all in later. :) I figured something like that would allow me to explore more possibilities and put the character more indepth later.

I know from experience with Role Playing that the more you leave open at the beginning the more fun you can have building the character in the future. :) Besides, I also write and I didn't want to blow the bio out of proportion by going to indepth. :)

I think you should start simple, then build on what you have.

I want to thank everyone for the advice. I haven't been posting much because of my second job, which has now become my first. Need to have a talk with the webmaster sometime about, if I could just figure out how to contact him. (I just need to take the time to look around. )

I have graduated from the Academy and I am now posted aboard the USS Republic as an Assistant Engineer. I haven't decided on a specilization yet, or much of anything. I am using my character above, I really like the way he turned out, but he still needs a lot of fine tuning, so you won't see a bio up for a few weeks. I need to play him to get to know him. :)

Thanks!
