Connor or O'Connor. Replace the 'o' with the 'e' if you wish, but be warned to watch your back every now and then, Kitty. ::evilish look on face, then fades::

Pitty,

When I get home tonight after work and making my basketball team do many, many laps...I'll send you some basic information on Cait, which will help you plan your character.

I have some basic information from the original 1966 and 1983 Star Trek Role Playing games that I will forward you. Most Caitians are actually vegetarians, trying to put the animals preconception most races have of them, behind them. They also consider using their tail as prehensile, as vulgar and frown upon those that do. They are very sharp of hearing as well, and...well yes, have sharp claws.

One thing to remember about Caitians, is that they are NOT Kzinti. (Kzin can be found in the Man Kzin Wars book series (volumes 1-10) by Larry Niven and the old Star Fleet Battles Role Playing game. Though the Kzin series can help with feline traits and reactions, Kzinti race are very male oriented/dominated, war-like and aggressive.

Charnur series by Cherryh, C.J., is another series also recommended for felinoid traits.

Also, if you have a copy of the ST:TAS, watch those as well, and you'll see Lt. M'ress, who was Caitian.

I'll send you what info I can tonight, and will suppliment more tomorrow when I get time (tonight I have Academy and Republic, and need some setup time for them as well).

Blu

This quick note is in answer to several questions that I have recieved about where I have gotten my information on Cait.  Although, there are two different Caitians shown at the trial in Star Trek IV : The Voyage Home, just after they arrive back with the whales, and prior to the trial, one speaking to the Andorian, we are not at all mentioned in any of the current Star Trek literature.  There was a felinoid-like creature, that some believe (I don't), might also be a Caitian, attacking Captain Kirk in the bar in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.  Sadly, most of the newer versions of the encyclopedias, and sourcebooks, do not even mention Caitians. They can still be found in several of the TOS era Pocket Books. The below listed info, was something I had posted back in 1996, and is not a complete listing of Caitian history or info. I have been unable to locate my most current and updated copy listing all references to Caitians in all Star Trek literature.

Early references place Cait as one of the original 5 member worlds of the Federation, with the others being Earth, Vulcan, Andoria and Tellar.

I have three main references, all of which have Paramount stamped on them, making them somewhat official, if you want to look at it that way. My main reference is from my old, battered copies of Star Trek: The Role Playing Game. Copyright, 1966. Copyright 1983 updated.  Published by FASA Corporation under exclusive license from Paramount Pictures Corporation, the trademark owner. Anyway, in answer to those with questions, and whom do not have access to this sourcebook, here is Cait as presented nearly 38 years ago.

"Cait is located in the Northeast Quadrant of Federation space at map coordinates

1.80 N  by  2.16 E.  It has a population of 7.65 billion, is a Federation member planet,

and it's Planetary Profile concerns include, Culture, Industry, Shipbuilding, and Trade Centers. Cait is a lush, tropical world, whose race of intelligent feliniods is among the newest races to join the Federation. Resembling Terran felines, Caitians are thick-furred beings, light gold to dark brown in color.  When first contacted, the Caitian civilization was considerably advanced, with an emphasis in the physical and biomedical sciences, even though Caitians had never ventured beyond their own planet.

Despite their predatory appearance, Caitians are extremely peaceful and have strong individual and group loyalties.  Cait maintains a large starship construction facility capable of producing a wide range of military and commercial craft each year.  The planet is currently represented on the Federation Council.  M-class planet, position in system - 4th, 2 satellites, lenght of day = 27 hrs., planetary gravity = 1.25 g.  Average annual production rates of Military and commercial vessels: Cruisers = 4, Escort Ships=30, Frigates = 18,Personel Transports 7, Warp Shuttles = 47, commercial ships = 18.

Caitians walk erect as humans, extremely fast, acute sense of sight and smell, high physical beauty,  but less hardy than humans."

Another main reference is the "Worlds of the Federation" book by Shane Johnson, 1989. There are some slight differences, but nothing major. In this reference, the Caitian homeworld, is 2nd in placement from it's sun, not 4th. Here is an excerpt from this source regarding Cait.

Cait (M-Class), called Ferasa in the Caitian tongue. 15 Lyncis, coordinates [ 41.9, -228.3, -12.6]

Cait is the 2nd planet of 12 orbiting a moderate-sized yellow star. It is the only habitable planet in it's system, and has 2 moons, Rea and Sura.

The native Caitians are a distinctly feline race, and it is believed that they are the descendants of an ancient Kzinti colonization group. They are bipedal, with a thick orange mane, long tail and large golden eyes that provide excellent low-light vision. The Caitian language consists of multiple soft tones, spoken with a deep, purring resonance; this style of communication makes it difficult for Caitians to adapt to phonetic languages.

Caitians have excellent hearing, with a frequency range far beyond that heard by normal humanoids. For this reasonmost Caitians that enter Starfleet specialize in communications and sonic sciences.

Unlike the Kzinti, the Caitian race is not hostile in nature. Their reputation as one of the most cooperative and intelligent members of the Federation makes Caitian crewmembers much sought-after throughout Starfleet.

The asteroid belt that lies between the fifth and sixth planets of the Caitian system is an abundant source of ores and valuable minerals, not the least of which is dilitium. Orbital refining platforms within the belt, provide a large percentage of the dilitium crystals used in this area of Federation space.

The 3rd main reference is of course, Star Trek The Animated Series. Paramount involved. Roddenberry involved, most of original cast involved. The Caitian in question is Lt. M'Ress, and she can be observed for an idea of how Caitians are.

There are other tidbits noted in literature, but at this time, I'll have to look for at a later date when I find some more time.

As for your original question, most female Caitians begin their name with a M' while males use a S' . I would try to stay with soft tones, try purring the name as you say it. Nothing harsh with hard K's, D's, C's ect.

Good luck,

Blu
