A conversation between friends

Nemesis stands up from his comfy seat on the shuttle and heads to the rear compartment to replicate a banana to settle his excited nerves.

 

Seiben standing in line behind him, then replicates a cup of coffee. "Coffee, double cream, double sugar." Seiben grabs his coffee and takes a sip. "How you doing, Nem?" Seiben asks.

 

Nemesis looks over at Seiben and laughs grabbing his freshly replicated banana. "I see you're finally getting that coffee that we to ten forward for" holds out his tail like one would hold out a hand for a shake.

 

Seiben laughs as well. "Yeah, it's never too late" he says

 

Nemesis' face straightens "So I see you didn't go back to the airlock after our little adventure to the holodeck... that’s a good thing to see I tell you that, Well anyway how are you?" looks at Seiben taking a bite of the yellow goodness of that banana.

 

Seiben sighs and takes another sip of his hot, welcoming coffee He then takes a seat, and sighs. "Thanks. I'm fine now. After our escapades, I went straight back to my quarters and went to sleep. But Anika and I managed to make up. We went on this wonderful date to Lake Tahoe in the holodeck.” Seiben sips more coffee. The Columbian beans and the rich cream, sweetened by the sugar, it feels great in Seiben's mouth. Seiben then replicates a donut, and takes a bite. Soft, airy, and not too sweet. "Mmm, these Krispy Kreme donuts, are the best."

 

Nemesis takes a seat by Seiben and looks at him. "Anika is that doctor right? You made out with her well good for you that’s a way to break the ice after such an event but I hope you're not going too far with this. You don't want to ruin a good friendship with a premature romance" smiles and takes another bite of the Banana "I do hope you and the doctor do have a great relationship all the same"

 

Seiben raises an eyebrow. "We went skiing, snowmobiling, and then we had dinner. That's all we did."

 

Nemesis waves his tail and quirks his brow slightly "I thought you said that you made out

With her your human phrases are quite troublesome to understand"

 

Seiben understands now. "Oh! You mean made up, not made out"

 

Nemesis quirks his tail again "don't they refer to the same thing? I tell you I will never understand you humans and having relationships before you mate"

 

Seiben nods. "Yeah, it can be difficult.”

 

Nemesis smiles again "On Velga we do not have as you call it love, we do things quite different then humans and many other species but then again we do many things different"

 

Seiben smiles. "I see. Sounds like an interesting planet." he says. Seiben bites his donut and drinks more coffee

 

Nemesis looks over at Seiben "Not nearly as interesting as Earth you have so many customs and cultures, we only have one culture excluding those of the slaves but they were merely slaves"

 

"Really? Kind of like Arcady Prime?"

 

Nemesis quickly takes a bite of his banana rubs the side of his head "Different but some...ah...what s-s-similar I suppose you could say"

 

Seiben bites more of his donut. "Okay, I see.”

 

Nemesis finishes his banana 'Well, didn't Earth have some slavery in its past I think its very common through the galaxy not like Velga is the only planet to have and well not to say I agreed with slavery well that’s the reason I left see you know what I mean right" He continues to nervously rubbing the side of his head

 

In-between sips of coffee. "Yes, we did. It dated back from 3500BC, with the Egyptians keeping Israelites as slaves, and continued to the late 19th century, where Americans brought over African slaves to work in their cotton mills. I believe slavery became illegal just around 1861."

 

Nemesis smiles "You didn't know about the slavery in the smaller African tribes and pigmy groups?" I think someone needs to read up on his Earth history

 

Seiben smiles. "Yeah, Earth history wasn't one of my majors in Academy."

 

Nemesis stretches his long arms "Well you know I am a scientist need to research things like that but my father would likely disapprove of my career choice you know not taking over the Arcadia and becoming its new rebel Captain" Nemesis laughs

 

Seiben nods and laughs. "Uh huh. I hear ya." he says

 

Nemesis smiles again "I can just hear him now...You're the heir to the thrown and you perform the work of the genetically inferior females... oh the memories of my home planet"

 

Seiben doesn't really hear Nem, but he smiles. "Homesick>:

 

Nemesis droops his tail and head "Well, yes in a way being the only one of my species on this ship is hard enough but to look so radically different then anyone else makes it harder I didn't have that on Velga you see I was one of the genetically superior you see"

 

"Yeah, it can be difficult being the odd man out."

 

Nemesis takes a big sigh "I really do miss the Trees on Velga I would swing all day, they had a scent you wouldn't believe taller then anything on Earth just beautiful"

 

Seiben nods sympathetically. "Yeah, I feel the same way every time I think of Germany. Lots of mountains there, where I can climb and ski. I've been mountain climbing and skiing longer than I can remember. When you look down, you can see everything. So peaceful and serene. You know, it's like you're the only person in the world."

 

Nemesis takes another sigh "You can always go back to your home but I have been banished from mine and can never return never feel the tilkin moss on the palm of my had, gaze down at the land from the tallest Velgarian trees, never again" Nemesis takes another sigh of despair

 

Seiben frowns at Nem. "That's unfortunate." Seiben doesn’t know what else to say. "Maybe you can talk with the Vulcans about that. Maybe some mediatation'll do ya good?" he says

Nemesis raises his head and his tail perks up "Maybe your right maybe you're right, you know shuttle rides like this its just nice to talk to someone with the rest of the passengers being so quiet, just nice to have a friend to talk to"

 

"True, shuttle rides do that, when we don't bring anything to read." Seiben chuckles. "But yeah, that's why we're going there in the first place. Self help."

 

Nemesis quirks his head "I thought we were going because the captain wanted all these insane people off his ship for awhile" Nemesis makes a huge grin

 

Seiben laughs. "Yeah, that too."
