Enterprise Talk

I know this topic is bound to have a bunch of people on both sides of the fence...  so I'm going to throw it out...  what do ya'll think about the latest Trek TV series?

Enteprise is now in it's second season, so what do ya think?

In my own opinion...  I think the series is starting to progress quite a bit since it's debut.  The last couple new episodes have been interesting...  and show a lot of potential.  It's got some room for improvement, but it's working on it.

And the theme song...  wow....  I had to go out and buy it.  lol.  Have both versions.  The TV one and the "full one".

How about the rest of ya?

me, personally, wasn't into until the 2nd half of the first season, I think it rocks, but the opening song, UUGGGHH, they shoulda kept with tradition and have no singin in the song... ENT is my 2nd favorite series, right after TNG

Well, I have to tell you all my first reaction to the show.

I turned it on, and was watching it, and then they showed Engineering.

:: Blinks ::

:: Looks at TV screen, showing Engineering on Enterprise ::

Oh my! :: points at screen :: Look at that! The warp core is sideways! How stupid are these peopels?

Hehehe, that was my first reaction to ENT. Since then it's started to grow on me. At first I hated having buttons and no UT but now it's kinda cool. Though I must admit, there have been some stupid plot oversights, and not cause of the future of what ST is, but just some stupid things in episodes.

Example : In that episode where the tactical guy ( I'm terriable w/names ) is stuck on the ship's hull, no one even suggestion the transporter. They had used it before, from rescuing Archer from the Suliban, but no one even suggestion it. I mean, i twould have been easy to dismiss, "Sry Captain, can't do. Radiation from the mine is disrupting it, to risky." But noooo.... no one even suggested it. That was the stupidest mistake I've ever seen, ignoring the tech. you have at hand.

However, there has been some cool episodes. Such as the one where everyone got obbsessed with stuff, lol, Trip w/the CO chair and Flox w/Travis in sickbay.

Porthos has been great, to see an animal on the ship is really cool. I always wondered why they never had them in the future, I wonder if at some point they'll explain that in ENT.

With the singing in the beginning? Hmmm.... I do like it, it's inspirational, gives you hope, blah blah. However, it does deviate from the normal Trek style, but then again, change can be a good thing. So, I like it, I didn't buy it, hehehehe, but I like it.   :)

The words are what stood out for the song most to me.  If you really think about it...  the words fit the series like a glove!

It’s been a long road

Getting from there to here

It’s been a long time

But my time is finally near

And I will see my dream come alive at last

I will touch the sky

And they’re not gonna hold me down no more

No, they’re not gonna change my mind

Cause I got faith of the heart

I’m going where my heart will take me

I got faith to believe

I can do anything

I got strength of the soul

And no one’s gonna bend or break me

I can reach any star

I got faith

Faith of the heart

If that does not describe the series (and the Trek philosophy in general), I don't know what does.  :)

My thoughts though.

Hey there,

Well a lot of people are saying it's horrible and it's ratings suck. For example, this past Wednesday the ratings were 5th for that time slot with every other channel showing reruns and Enterprise showing a new episode.

This might make you wonder...but no news site is reporting the fact at least 70% of UPN stations preempted Enterprise with something else. In my market, a basketball game was on from 7:30pm until 12:00am. I didn't wait up to see if it came on after and I'm certain many people didn't either.

I like what I'm seeing. It has it's problems, but it's trying. Continuity seems to be holding, which is a big plus over Star Trek Voyager: The Ship With 48 Shuttlecraft..   ::):

The song is "Faith of the Heart" by Rod Stewart.

As for my thoughts on Enterprise, I really don't like it quite as well as the others. To me the lack of much of the future technology kinda takes some of the draw out of it. Another thing is that they cannot really introduce much new stuff. We already know alot more about Klingons, Andorians, etc.. because we have traveled into the future with the other series. To me this takes away some of the excitement.

Well I am sitting on the fence - and I would very much like to move off it because it's a barbed wire fence and I got a sharp point digging into my rectum. ;)

My thoughts:

1)  5th in ratings with only 30% of the channels showing it that normally would is not that bad.

2)  EVERY new series has reruns occasionally.  This season's South Park had only 4 new episodes too.

3)  EVERY new Star Trek series has to find it's niche, and sometimes it can take a while.  TNG didn't get good until "Best of Both Worlds."  VOY didn't really need an incubation period, but TOS didn't really get noticed until after it got cancelled!  DS9 just sucked.

4)  We need to see more scenes with Hoshi naked, and that brown-haired crewman that has the hots for Flox isn't bad either.

5)  Flox has already gotten annoying.  I mean like Jar Jar Binks annoying.  They should not have tried to replace Neelix - I mean really, they shouldn't have.

6)  You can tell the budget commitment from Paramount ust isn't there on this one.

7)  The Temporal Cold War could be very effective (from a literary standpoint) to correct some of the inconsistencies of the Star Trek timeline(s) and explain things like how Kahn and co. took over the planet in the 1990s, fought a nuclear World War III, and was shot into space without anyone knowing about it.  Sadly, all the Temporal Cold War is being used for is a fallback of the writers when they run out of ideas.
