USS Manticore - Mondays 10 ET - Command Staff: (CO) Captain McFly, (XO) Kansas Kenickie

U.S.S. MANTICORE BRIEFING #1317 STARDATE 52506.23

Manticore has been asked to investigate a spontaneous gaseous anomaly. Upon closer inspection, it appears the particle structure is quite complex raising the need for further study. However, many of the crew have suddenly become ill and the ship is malfunctioning. Chief Jaenke has discovered the cause of the malfunctions and it's the new bio-neural gel packs that are the culprit, having become sick just like the crew. Meanwhile, Doctor Tevek has realized the severity of the virus. But not only that, it seems to be targeting the crew! Most troubling of all, Commander Faliver has shown the virus to be man made. But hope has dawned as Lt. Cmdr Sorenson has discovered the cetacean crew are seemingly immune! Now it's just a matter of finding out how.

::barely conscious sitting in the observation lounge where he was last plopped::

::in sickbay, treating patients (and himself) as he waits to hear about Annika's research::

::Bren's eyes glaze over as he continues to stare at the holoprojection of the crystal-proteins, watching them twist and writhe in the air in front of him. After several minutes the afterimages and real images blur heavily, and he might be starting to drool::

::hears KK's breathing change and heads over to her biobed::

:: Still sitting next to Faldek, after throwing the hypospray at Karl ::

Our computers are running painfully slow without the neural paks!

It is just aggravating everyone...

::looks over KK's patient notes on the biobed and realizes that the hypo of respiratory medication he had applied previously is not effective for as long a duration as it had been previously::

:: Tried to go back to the main display in engineering to work on the ship, but still not felling well ::

::Fever has gotten higher, not moving around at all now::

((By the way, is Karl in sickbay or the bridge?))

::grabs the hypo and smashes it on the table::

+Banks+ Yes, but something is wrong. I got a massive...dose of the virus. I am trying to stablize the ship/

::reviews changes in KK's vital signs on the biobed monitor; to both himself and the rest of the medical staff:: The effectiveness of our previous treatments of the symptoms appears to be fading, at least with regard to Commander Kenickie.

:: Looks at the smashed hypo, nods his approval ::

::Coughs, gasps, coughs::

:: The room darkens :: Oh no. No no no.

::snaps his eyes shut, rubs them with his fingers:: Computer, please pause the display

::reviews medical database searching for stronger medications that would treat KK's most severe syptoms and not conflict with the prior medication::

+Erich Jaenke + We have not been affected by the virus here in CetOps. It is my believe that the Gel Paks when infected, were turned into seed pods to spread the virus throughout the ship via our ventillation system.

+Jaenke+ Sickbay here, Chief. ::continues reviewing medication list...trying to find something::

::Receives a 'text message' from Annika asking for relief while she rests from the virus, and heads out of Science toward the TL and CetOps::

+Bren+. I'm progressing along, I think. Any assistance would be appreciated, but I think we'd appreciate some help with replicating an optimal amount of antitodes... especially with the computer acting the way it is.

::to Nurse Mallory:: That is unsurprising, Nurse, given that the whole crew is infected. And it is also quite possible the anti-virals are losing their effectiveness anyway, if Commander Kenickie's case is any indication.

Helmut promise me you will reverse engineer this viral weapon and use it against whoever attacked us!

Problem is... I'd have to do it ... manually ... from the torpedo bay.

It will definitely need to be cleaned up at some point.

OK, what is the... optimal number of... antitodes?

::manages to generate a vial with the proported cure, and hands it over to Lt. Nye. :: Maybe it'll be better idea to have Dr. Tevek complete the process. ::Nye Nods:: Lt Nye, can you bring this over to Medical and to Dr. Tevek? I'll continue to check on the cure and make necessary preparations to mass-produce once he gives us okay or sends us his modifications.

+Tevek+ Sorenson to Tevek, I believe we managed to isolate a potential cure based on the cetaceans' DNA samples as they appear to be completely immune from the effects of the virus. He's on his way to you now.

::hears the alarms for KK and heads back to her biobed monitor, gesturing for Nurse Mallory to come along::

+Sorenson+ That is very fortunate news, especially as we are running low on anti-viral medication and crewmembers are experiencing more severe symptoms... ::looks over KK's biobed monitor and notes the kidney failure::

:: Raises an eyebrow :: Too far.... to be any use to us :: coughs :: now...

I mean ... we're going to have to ... go fetch them all.

:: arrives at KK position with appropriate tray for dr. Tevek ::

+Bren+. I'd say we'd need a few thousand for all of the crew. It'll take a lot of time to synthesize that much of the cure. Lt. Nye is sending over a sample to Dr. Tevek in Sickbay so he can complete the process. Once he gives us his okay, and sends his modifications, if applicable, we should be able to start the process.

That is... IF we survive... this

Ve did vhat ve could in creating that antitode. The Voolcan doctor I think knows vhat he's doing.

I hope so... as much as what I think about the hoomans, we still need them to clean our tanks and vater.

Someday there will be Cetacean crewed Starships Sven, someday.

::watches out for slime as he climbs down the tube and finally arrives in Sickbay, he hands the vial with the antidote over to Dr. Tevek:: Here you are, sir.
