U.S.S. MANTICORE BRIEFING #1314 STARDATE 52503.24

Manticore has been sent to a classified planet where a cult fascinated with the Borg have been exiled. The crew is to investigate possible comm activity by the group who have been forbidden from contacting anyone on the outside. Upon arrival science detected what appeared to be the comm array. A third team was sent down to investigate while the others proceeded to the village.

::just exited the shuttle and scans the forested area with her tricorder, looks around the trees::

::Marco walks with Faldek's group through the village; his patience wears thin as they want to look at every little thing::

::links his tricorder to the shuttle for security purposes::

The source is coming from a denser part of the forest about 1/2 km away. This was the closest I could land with all these trees.

::tries not look at the Doctor's eyes, since they are ... popping::

:: Steps off the shuttle, scanning the area ::

::taking it slow, intentionally pissing off Del Marco::

::following Annika & Thomas out of the shuttle::

:: continues to flex his beluga brain on debugging the aqueous/atmospheric interface modelling for the Cetacean Away Team System (CATS) ::

Lots of foliage, so it'll probably be slow going. Watch out for roots and stuff.

:: Nods, looking towards the forest ::

::walking alongisde Faldek, scanning every little thing with his tricorder::

::points to a directions:: It's coming from there.

::Scanning things in CetOps::

::leads McFly and Kansas into the wooden structure; inside it's like a crude engineering lab; many stations set up working on odd cybernetic prototypes; all the equipment is older, like props from season 3 of TNG::

So Doctor how has your village been thriving?

:: sees Commander Bren deep in thought in the Captain's Chair...she wonders what he is thinking about...::

::he shuffles from side to side as he walks; he's very stiff, as if his hips don't bend much at all anymore:: The village has been doing much better than excepted. Quite ironic how we must live so rustic as we try to live so symbiotic with technology.

:: looks at the bridge...her first bridge shift on Manticore. The Bridge is much bigger than the Miranda Class Starship she previously served on ::

::slowly trudges through the thick forest, watching her feet so she doesn't trip over a root or something::

::to DelMarco:: I am primarily scanning lifesigns, biological information. My function on this mission is to provide your colony with any medical assistance you may need, and replenish medical supplies.

::checks her tricorder again:: Signal's getting a bit stronger, so we're on the right path..

All systems are reporting green commander. Sir, should I engage transporter lock on the Away team or is their no need for that now.

I was not briefed on the mission. All I know is the bulk of the senior staff is down there.

You're right. A comm signal was detected from this planet. And you know the rules, so Starfleet sent us in to investigate. But that doesn't mean we also weren't sent to check on your well being also.

We're still about a km away I recon. It's quite well hidden in a thick part of the forest, I'll give 'em that.

I don't know of any transmission, Commander. We barely have enough tech to keep ourselves going.

::looks around, as he is feeling a bit uneasy::

Yes, please. Whatever you can give us. These implants are not easy to live with. Our medical supplies dwindled a long time ago.

::finishes adjustments to hypo, holds it up to Iris:: I believe this injection would alleviate your child's symptoms. If I may... ::walks towards Iris and the child::

Alec... forgive my ignorance of your mission, but why do you choose to live like this? You could easily be back on Earth living in comfort like the rest of us.

I am authorized to offer asylum, the caveat being that the implants you have would have to be removed and you promise to no longer dabble in this technology. You would be reintegrated into any Federation planet you choose.

I believe it was seven years ago.... this is definitely ten years older than that, at the least.

Commander, your offer in generous, and we may see if some would like to take you up on it. However, regardless of the struggle you see here, we believe in what Alec and Susanna have tried to achieve. It's not perfect but it's trying to be. The irony is, we would be much further along in our research if we had Earth's resources at our hands. Instead, we've been forced to continue on a foreign planet with little more than the technology of a shuttle craft.

Very crude, yes at the very least I agree. ::checks out the array:: But it is still generating enough to break the atmosphere. It's probably being picked up by a signal booster somewhere up in space. I'd have to scan for that once we arrive back to the Manticore.

At least a decade old, but probably mid 23rd century I'd think, looking at this tech. Even then, I think this was the basic bargain basement model even when it was new.

::Walks over the Science-1 console and kicks off a scan of local space rocks for their mineral contents::

I have a report from the surface from Annika. It's definitely a communications array transmitting barely through the atmosphere.

The life you've been given, yes. And nothing else. You could choose to keep that life, exactly as it is, work with those limitations and endeavor to the best of your ability until your death overtakes you, and eventually it will overtake you, no matter what. Because you're human. And we all succumb.

I see fear in yours. I see your heart rate inclined, the blood from your extremities pooling towards your organs for protection. My appearance bothers you becuase it's different. In a way I do. But not in an egotistical way, in a way that an adult would look at a child knowing they are better in every way than that child is. The child hasn't grown, hasn't developed, doesn't have the strength or knowledge the adult has. It's not egotistical to say this, it's just the way it is.
