We pick up as 2 of the alien ships have opened fire on Aegis. Two others remain outside of the system. The other 10 are sending out some unknown energy towards the planet.

Athena has decloaked and is moving to engage the attacking ships.

ACTION> Alien phasers are less powerful than Federation standard weapons, however these ships seemed rigged for orbital bombardment with 10 sets of phasers on their dorsal sides, all pummeling downward at Aegis. (edited)

(base) :: The ground shook as if in the middle of an earthquake, the structure absorbing the hits and spreading the energy throughout the structure ::

Given how ready this whole fleet was - they've been preparing for this.

Seems so.

All weapons on standby. Give our target a spread of phasers.

(base) :: Muuhi stood closer to Niji, not being really prepared being attacked ::

ACTION: Athena's weapons rip into the back of target 2, it's shields only blocking about half of the attack. But thick armor on the alien ship keeps it from cracking in two.

Com, any data we get on these ships from their reactions to our weapons - get that data to the Federation colony.

(base) :: shakes as another hit impacts the shields :: You seem nervous?

ACTION: Ground based phasers on Aegis reach up and also rock target 1.

The Federation needs to know what's out here if we can't tell them ourselves.

(base) Aren't you?

(base) Yes, but we are trained to deal with this, most of the time.

Another round at our target.

(base) They have a thick hull structure.

ACTION: Another Alien ship breaks formation and moves into position to bombard the planet.

I get the feeling they don't like anything in the way of whatever is under Aegis.

(base) What's that on the upper right of your display?

(base) Evacuation protocol.

Captain, we do not have photorps, but we do have disruptors. Fire at will.

ACTION: Explosions begin to ripple across target one, Aegis weapons finding the ships belly somewhat softer.

Yes. I seem to have a bad feeling about this.. hope I'm wrong.

ACTION: 2 more alien ships break formation and begin targeting Athena

(base) We are having an effect on target one.

How wonderful. We have their attention.

Their weapons seem concentrated on their underside. I'd suggest avoid that area.

Helm, keep us above them.

ACTION: Athena's shields taking the hits, with a little shaking of the deck plates under our feet.

::monitors a terminal to see how the battle's going, shakes in her seat::

What I wouldn't give right now to have been able to procure some torps.

ACTION: Target one suddenly explodes, ripped apart of Aegis' weapons.

::hopes Aegis and the base are holding out ok::

It would be nice. At least knocking out some systems would help.

Athena, diagnostic on best specific targets on the two ships facing us.

Route results to tactical.

ACTION: A large amount of the strange material from the nebula can now be detected around the destroyed ship. Areas of the debris cloud reflecting complex patterns from the other starting energy being sent by the rest of the alien fleet.

(base) :: Continuing to target the second ship, at least until it goes out of range ::

Was that stuff powering their ships?

Either way, I could see why they'd not want anyone else blocking their access. Or learning what it does for them.

More data, hopefully we can use it.

Hard-won data. Let's make sure it doesn't cost us lives.

How do those two ships on us look?

ACTION: The energy being sent out by the alien fleet suddenly surges. All sensors suddenly go blank. Power dips slightly on all ships, even the alien ships.

ACTION: Target 2 explodes as their shields fail for that moment and take the full force of Aegis weaponry

Ops, check on our power. Battle priority list.

::starts seeing personnel come in and begins treating them::

Tactical, how do those ships on us look?

ACTION: Ships targeting Athena are having a hard time matching the more nimble Athena.

ACTION: Long range sensors detect the 2 ships that remained outside the system begin to move.... back towards the Nebula.

Keep us in position and get them weakened. Then target the next one that's fixed on Aegis.

(base) Is it over?

::works as quickly as she can::

ACTION: All alien ships break formation and begin moving away from the planet.
