This is Alec Krige. He's a cybernetics engineer famous for developing accessibility devices for those born with disabilities. He's most famous for inventing the VISOR. He's also developed a similar device for people born deaf. And was part of a committee that approved the version 2 artifical heart.

Well. This Ship is much bigger than the Majestic....Far more capable. And better Raktajino.

In the mid Around 2360, Mister Krige was brought onto a committee looking into the Borg. This is where things get classified by the way.

I saw someone programmed a wide arrangement of Cardassian beverages as well....This Starship has a very diverse crew.

Starfleet has known about the Borg for a very long time. Dating back to the early 2200s. A couple of drones were discovered in the acrtic by a science team. When they were thawed, they repaired and assimilated the science team. They took control of a ship and eventually boarded the original NX Enterprise. Starfleet believes that event is realted to the recent Borg attack in sector 001 but the briefing doesn't explain why or how.

Yes, quite a diverse assortment of motley crew. I can't compare it to other ships though since this was my first assignment out of Academy -- yeah, sure I can show it to you. I am the one who does look after their wellbeing.

Oh that would be appreciated. :: thinks :: The War started when I got out of the academy...so the Majestic was my first Assignment.

But around 2360, eh, 61ish, it was believed the Borg had been performing reconnaissance along the Romulan Neutral Zone. They blamed it on the Romulans but Starbases from both factions had been destroyed. And so the committee had been formed to look into it and also learn more about the Borg as they were now on our doorstep.

Ah, yea. Not sure how much smaller a ship can be to fit a CetOps, though I hear they have them on the California classes.

It's during this time that Mister Krige developed a fascination of the Borg as he learned more about their cybernetic enhancements which could not only correct ailments or deformities, but also the improvements that could be made to the human body.

Of course outlawed decades ago, it's believed she was researching and possibly performing genetic engineering on embryos. Although no evidence of a successful experiment has been discovered, many files about the subject were found in her lab.

Krige sought out Thompson and with their two expertise combined, they began work on replicating the cybernetic fusion with organic tissue seen in the Borg.

They developed a handful of attempts first on themselves and later on people who believed they could get closer to perfection. The Borg's mantra of gaining perfection by merging the organinc and synthetic became theirs as well. And soon they developed a little cult following of people wanting the same thing.

He was in full beast mode that cell.

They do... They came to call themselves Syntetiska. Swedish for synthetic.

Although...after the Majestic was Destroyed near Bajor...My Life Pod was picked up by a New Starship...called the Defiant a Klingon was in charge of that ship at the time during rescue operatons.

Very Briefly. The Aftermath of that Battle had....hundreds of Starfleet Lifepods that had to be retrieved. So once he got us aboard the Defiant...he dropped us of at Deep Space Nine and went about rescuing more crews.

Not so much spy. The group has been exiled from Earth. It all came to a head at Wolf 359. There's a lot of rumor about what actually happened, but what we know is the entire group, a couple dozen people at this point, were nearby in a small Norway class ship. They claimed to be a science expedition. Then the call came for all ships to intercept the cube. And this meant all ships so they left to join the fight. This is where things get sketchy. Most people who would know anything are dead. But Krige claims they showed up, were immediately attacked and the ship disabled. A bridge Lt from the USS Constance attempting to save them says they noticed the group never fired a shot and instead made an intercept course for the cube. The cube fired on them and another ship came to save them and was subsequently destroyed in the process. The Norway ship was disabled and jettisoned escape pods despite the Constance's urging them not to. She said it scans showed the pods heading straight for the cub instead of away. The Constance went in to save the pods. They beams the crew on board but were badly damaged in the process and eventually they were destroyed themselves. Most of the crew dead save for the Lt, an ensign in engineering and the group they saved.

Now of course Krige denies a lot of this. He said because of the nature of the ship they were in they never stood a chance and it was nothing but chaos and confusion on board. Regardless, Starfleet insisted they stop with the cybernetic enhancements. They refused. There's even some security reports of a few people harassing Picard's family wanting to know about the Borg and what it was like to be assimilated. Just outright disrespect on their part.

Lucky indeed . :: sips raktajino and appears thinking for a second :: Once I got checked out...I got attached to an Engineering team getting damaged starships ready for long distance tug to Utopia Planetia....After the Battlefield was cleared I got moved around a bit...but eventually got here.

Starfleet finally demanded they cease the experiments or face prison. Someone, the briefing doesn't say who, but someone eventually suggested exile. Everyone agreed and the group was sent to a small forest moon in sector 032. They were given some supplies, little prefab starter cottages for them to live in, and they were free to continue experimenting using what technology they had on hand. The only requirement was that they not communicate with anyone, ever. In fact Starfleet took great care to make sure they had not communications equipment at all. And anything that could be converted would never be able to reach out of the atmosphere.

One very overpowered Tug If you ask me. But I suppose you need that for doing things other than tugging.

However... ::smiles:: A Vulcan science station one sector over, recently detected what could be construed as a comm signal. The signal was very faint and mixed in with some space garbage but, it could be something. Starfleet wants us to take a look. Their big fear is that they may have done something to signal the cube in the recent attack.

You bring up a good point, Mister Harnett. Despite their best efforts, this group has never been able to reach the level of assimilation the Borg have. Can anyone guess why?

They have never been able to create the nano probe. The key to the Borg's assimilation is nano probes. Without their ability to reprogram the host DNA, the body is constantly fighting the implants.

I think someone maybe has body dysmorphic disorder.

When we arrive, we'll split into two teams. Kansas and I will talk with Krige, assuming he's still the leader of the group. Faldek will lead the second team with Erich and Doctor Tevek. I don't expect they'll let you snoop around too much but try to get a feel for the village. See if you can spot anything out of the ordinary and of course anything that could lead to communications.

Even though these people have chosen exile, they are still to be treated with civility. And to that end we've also been authorized to assess their supply needs. Medical, food, and even technological.

Probably should have requisitioned a psychiatrist too.

Tevek and Erich will also be on a secondary mission to assess how the people are dealing with the implants. Starfleet medical is keenly interested to see if they've advanced any and how the body is accepting some of the more long term implants. Erich, likewise for you, Starfleet engineers are interested in what kind of implants they've developed and again how they've been integrated within the body.
