USS Excalibur - Sundays 10:30 ET - Command Staff: (CO) Cptn Swain, (XO) CdrMirandaHawthorne

MISSION BRIEF: Excalibur's stop over at Erebus-76 was, outside of the discovery of an asher swain superfan, who got a personal tour of astrometrics, uneventful and the crew have finished unloading supplies to the science station, had a bit of fun at a party, and are now preparing to shove off for the first leg of actual survey work in the Beardmore Cluster.

That survey will take us around 6 LY from our present location to binary system with a blue giant primary and a main sequence secondary. They key point of interest, however, is a gas giant with unusual swirling shadows.

Once we've cleared the station, lay in course for the Straben system full impulse until we've cleared the solar system.

Helmsman> “Course is set, and engaged.”

I am looking forward to getting a more detailed look at Straben. When the Cassini was here, we only did a survey with a class V probe.

“Anything in particular you’re looking forward to?”

The sixth planet of the primary is a gas giant with some unusual properties. I believe Mincine also wanted to take a team to the third planet of the secondary to do survey of the vegetation.

“Ooh, what are the unusual properties?”

Rex> I was planning on taking a small crew of security officers to the third planet as well. There's some great climbing opportunities for them to get their certifications in wilderness tactical maneuvers.

There are immense ragged planes of shadows that ripple across the upper atmosphere. The probe was unable to identify their source at the time, but Cassini didn't have time to divert this way to take a look.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::glances at Rex:: Have you done a risk assessment of the planet to identify potential hazards?

Well, that does sound interesting.

Rex> Nods It's almost as low as if we did it on the holodeck.

Nods to Will My chief science officer on the Cassini had some theories at the time, but we can't be sure. I thought maybe they were weather patterns -- its atmosphere is mostly helium, which itself is unusual -- but if they are weather patterns, they're still there though they're extremely varied.

Nods Especially that far out from the primary, though it is relatively close to the secondary star which could explain it.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> What about native fauna? Any to be wary of?

Rex> Mincine doesn't think there's anything too dangerous, though of course her team will be in the same biosphere studying conifers.

I mean, you would know more about that than me. Just ask our Orion friend?

Rex> And the weather appears to be pretty stable from what we can see.
