USS Excalibur - Sundays 10 ET - Command Staff: (CO) Cptn Swain, (XO) CdrMirandaHawthorne

MISSION BRIEF: Excalibur is currently docked at Starbase 37-Tango where they have been getting some much needed rest and relaxation. That tranquil interlude has been interrupted by a summons of senior staff (you) to the briefing room aboard the Excalibur.

William sits in the conference room. He’d talent he opportunity on the station to get his hair cut and restyled by one of the salon’s on the station, rather than the random crewman he’d been going to on ship.

Irene's in the conference room, and she doesn't look any different than she did before.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::Looking Hella refreshed and relaxed, just in time for another stressful mission. He glanced at the crew as he entered to take his seat.::

Rex> He'd let his beard grow out over the last few days and was looking positively dashing. He was playing with a fidget spinner.

9:12 PM

Enters the Observation Lounge/Briefing Room/conference room wearing the less formal vest look and drinking tea, a Vulcan blend that few humans, reportedly, had developed the "sophisticated palette" for according a former CMO that had introduced Swain to it. Swain had also taken the opportunity to change his hair, again, this time it was a real look -- silver with blue highlights. Is he going through a midlife crisis?

Good morning. He took a drink of tea and then settled in at the head of the table.

“Good morning sir.”

Cdr Jalen Stanton> Morning, Cap'n. ::Hiding a smile.::

"Mooorning." She refrains from commenting on the hair, other than giving the captain a weird look for a second.

Was raised properly and doesn’t comment at all.

I know that you probably would prefer to still be on Shoreleave, but such is our life, eh?

Cdr Jalen Stanton> All part of the job. ::nods::

Sitting and watching

We've received new orders. He shifted in his chair We're to head to the Beardmore Cluster and deliver supplies to a science outpost in orbit of Erebus-74. Once we've completed that, we're to begin surveying a portion of the Cluster that has not been mapped by actual Starfleet officers in over a century.

“Over a century? Well dang.” WIlliam looked at his PADD and started thinking about which portion of the missions as going to go sideways.

What kind of science?

The secondary star in the Erebus-74 system is decaying at a faster rate than would be expected for a G-class star of it's size, and the station was setup to monitor it. Should be a routine resupply. (edited)

William mutters to himself. “That’s the portion that’s going to go wrong.”

"Routine resupply, huh."

Lifts a brow, but decides to continue Chocox and Clark will need to work with the Commander Stanton to get all of the requested supplies aboard and inventoried. 'Fleet should have uploaded a list already.

“Aye sir.”

Mincine I'll want you to get started planning the survey of the Cluster. He handed her a PADD with a list of systems on it

I am excited to return to this neck of the woods. One of my first missions as Captain of the Cassini was an extended survey of another portion of this star cluster. (edited)

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::checks his padd for the list of supplies to see if anything could pose a potential challenge.::

She glances over the list on the PADD. "I'll get Navigation plotting the survey course." (edited)

Most of the area was charted by the USS Franconia. A few Vulcan science ships have gone back here and there, and soem civilian operations, but its pretty open country all things considered.

“What happens when a G-Class star finishes decaying?”

Normally? A star this size would go through the main sequence and would become a red giant, wherein its outer shell would be eroded away by the strong stellar winds of the system's primary. But that is a process that should take billions of years.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> Boom?

This one is losing energy much more rapidly, on a cosmological time scale anyway and actually appears to be shrinking, which shouldn't be happening.

Clearly, Asher's science nerd heart was excited by all this.

“Huh, interesting.” William starts taking notes on various ways this can become a problem, including Ghosts.

Irene> "No, definitely shouldn't be happening. A G-class star doesn't compress into a neutron star."

So what is happening to it?

We aren't sure. There's several theories, and that's what the station has been setup to observe.

He grinned If you're interested, I happen to already have downloaded most of the serious theories being offered. It was actually a topic of an entire workshop at the most recent Starfleet Astrological Sciences conference.

Rex> Tries to avoid groaning audibly. God Swain was a nerd sometimes.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::smirks at Rex. As a fellow meat-head, he didn't get it, either.::

"And this station is in contact with us, with nobody missing and no weird equipment failures or..."

Lifts a brow Yes. Commander Johanssan sent me a communique just before the meeting started.

He said they're looking forward to having us and asked me to bring him a bottle of wine.

Shrugs We've met before, but its been a few years since I'd talked to him. I wouldn't say we're friends or anything.

"I'm just saying..." She replies to Jalen and slides the PADD into her belt.

“Not at all. I’ll get working on shoving the new supplies into the cargo bays.”

Shakes head

Looks to Jalen to dismiss them, takes a drink of tea.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::Nods:: Everyone knows what they're working on, then let's get to it.

Rex> Straightens his uniform and heads for the exit. He didn't have a technical assingmnet yet, but he'd been notified of several rotations of security officers off the ship and a new batch that was coming aboard today, so he'd be busy with that at least.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> Chocox, the cargo list is already available.

Clark> Already down in the Cargo bay where he was unsure where they were supposed to put all this science equipment they were being told to bring aboard.

“Thank you sir.” William gets up and takes his PADD with him before moving out of the briefing room and heading to the Cargo Bay.

Irene stands and heads for the door, down to the astrometrics lab to figure out where they're going and how they're getting there.

ACTION> The data given to Irene has two sub tabs one is NOTES FROM SWAIN which contains several systems he wants the ship to survey, and then a secondary file that contains information on a series of supply depots in the Cluster left by a the USS Indefatigable in the 2250s and last resupplied by the Franconia. Swain's notes mentions we should plan to visit those depots.
