U.S.S. MANTICORE BRIEFING #1300 STARDATE 52412.16

During a mission to retrieve the prototype ship Prometheus from enemy hands Manticore suffered severe damage along with casualties from their engineering department. One such casualty was Ensign Ortega, who was supposed to meet with Lt Banks in Cetacean Ops. It was discovered that her passing had not been the result of the previous encounter but rather a murder that had been covered up. During the investigation all evidence pointed towards Doctor Orrak who, when confronted, revealed herself to be a changeling. Using stolen command codes, she locked out the crew from the computer and tried to push the ship at max warp to Starbase REDACTED where she would have tried to disappear amongst all the people. Her plan failed when the Science team was able to bypass the locks and regain the ship. In her rage, she attempted to kill Commander Faliver but ended up falling into his trap where she was sucked out of an airlock and promptly destroyed with a torpedo. After an exciting detour, Manticore is finally arriving at Starbase REDACTED.

When she was atop the viewing area of our enclosure....I thought she was going to jump into the water. To be honest I have never contemplated any fin to fin combat situations before...

Do Changelings swim? I guess they could turn into goo.

Sven, Kelp Inga and all Cetaceans on Manticore. We have sustained heavy damage from the War Ship Prometheus. There is an outside chance, we may be asked to depart Manticore briefly....We need to be aware of that chance nonetheless.

::Remembers himself and swings by his quarters to change into a Starfleet wetsuit (though he doesn't look as good as Chris Pine), replicates a full face mask with audio pickup, and then heads back to CetOps::

They make these walls pretty strong, I always fall into the mistake of thinking they are merely glass. I think they called it an advanced Tellurium-infused transparent aluminum? Fancy stuff.

I would say get everyone cleared and then do a baryon sweep of the ship before repairs get underway.

Commander Sorenson has checked in on us from time to time. Somehow the founder learned of her visits and...took advantage of that

Well, Annika is in charge of our foodstocks, so I suppose it wasn't hard to figure that out.

While I'm here... I brought something I've been working on. I realized that we can pop into the tank pretty much at any time, but there are large parts of the ship you can't see. I made this prototype... ::lifts the harness-with-flippers, then swims down to the bottom of the tank to lay it out:: Since I'm not sure how well it would work, it's roughly dolphin-sized. No pressure, but if one of you are interested... basically it's designed so you should be able to swim into the harness. When all contact points are, well, contacted it, it'll contract snugly to fit the individual. It basically just uses two simple repulsor-lift generators; One will form a bubble of water around you about 2' beyond your body. The other will lift you and the bubble. It works on a similar principle to a holodeck, in that as you try to move, the second generator will move you in that direction instead, without you smacking the edge of the bubble. It does recognize a slow ascent as a need to breathe however... ::Realizes he's rambling, sets it down and swims back up:: It has a few hours of power at a go, like I said its a rough model. But it might let you go socialize with other crewmembers down in 10Forward, or see the main Science labs.
