USS Manticore - Mondays 10 ET - Command Staff: Captain McFly, Kansas Kenickie

= USS MANTICORE BRIEFING #1290, STARDATE 52410.07 = starfleet

= Manticore has been sent in to investigate the disappearance of a new prototype ship, the USS Prometheus, last seen near the edge of the Alpha Quadrant. Upon arrival, they found debris from three ships, two Federation and one Romulan. They also discovered how the Romulans were able to get so close, with a new type of cloaking device able to disguise themselves to sensors. Annika was able to decipher the Prometheus' warp signature and they chased her down. After ignoring Manticore's warnings, Prometheus unveiled her secret weapon and promptly disabled Manticore's entire power system. While repair teams scrambled to fix the ship, back up finally arrived in the form of the USS Kieran and two more Defiant class ships. They dropped off some support crews then continued the pursuit of the stolen ship. Manticore tried to stay in contact but something was attempting to block communications. That something ended up being three Romulan Warbirds. The overwhelmed Kieran was soon helped by two EMH programs who were able to retake the ship and use it against the Romulans. Once on board, they discovered one of the EMH programs was from the USS Voyager, a ship that disappeared 3 years ago. Manticore sent the EMH back with renewed hope for the lost ship. Now they work to get Prometheus back home and deal with the Romulan hijackers. = starfleet

Well, like most, I believe they were just following orders. I can't say they didn't like stealing a new ship from Starfleet. Romulans believe in their ultimate superiority over all other races so to have Starfleet, a hodgepodge of many races outclass them in ship design might have given them a hit to their pride. But I cannot discount the female's outburst which is very un characteristic of a Romulan. I saw we offer her asylum, keep the Commander for the theft of the ship and send the rest back to the Romulans, which case they won't have a good time anyways.

I wonder if she could be useful to spread a message to her people. If they're as afraid of the Dominion as she claims they are, maybe they're in a moment of desperation. It would benefit all of us to work together.

Did you hear anything about the Romulans in your two years on Cardassia? The Dominion wiped out the majority of the Tal Shiar along with the Order. You think they can afford to kill so many people? (edited)

I was stationed at the consulate on Romulus for 6 months. I know a bit.

Did that event spook them as much as she claims? That's a lot of bodies to lose.

Commander, Colonel... I know desperation makes people do terrible things. Such as breaking a century old treaty and risking war. All of you are guilty for the deaths of the Prometheus crew and all of you should be held to justice. However, after consulting with my first officer, Commander Rekar, we will hold you solely accountable for the actions of your officers. The rest of you we will take back to the neutral zone and transfer you back to your people.

It certainly is. But I have a motive behind my decision. The Federation is also scared of the Dominion. As are the Klingons, even though they would never admit it. To fight against each other is exactly what the Dominion wants us to do as they come in behind our destruction and sweep away the ashes. We need to work together. And Colonel, I hope you, along with the rest of your crew, will be able to reach the Romulan senate with this message. Let us work together to fight a threat greater than all of us.
