USS Excalibur - Sundays 10 ET - Command Staff: Cptn Swain, CdrMirandaHawthorne

MISSION BRIEF: When we last left off, Excalibur had arrived in the Dakaris system to investigate a tip on stolen mining equipment. They began their search on an abandoned Federation science observatory where they found a gruesome scene of carnage.

Rex> Frowning deeply

"Alright, so we have a firefight happening, but we're not sure who won?"

:: Scanning and scanning the poor souls ::

"And that the fighting was done with disruptors, which isn't a good sign."

"No, not at all."

"No stun." :: sighs ::

Rex> I am pretty sure the invaders won. Frowns The command center should be this way. Points behind them

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::Disruptor out, he nodded.:: Let's head to the command center. Everyone keep together.

William looks to where Rex pointed. "That would make sense." William pulls out a phaser and starts that way carefully.

Irene swaps her tricorder for her phaser. "This computer's not helpful. Command center probably will be."

Rex> Taking up the rear. His security officers had fanned out, but hadn't found anything apparently yet.

"Pardon me if I don't pull out a phaser."

"Do they still have doctors swear to do no harm?"

"People shooting disruptors at you should be an exception..."

Cdr Jalen Stanton> Even doctors have the right to protect themsevles. ::Glancing back at Indaura.::

"Meant more as a personal belief, rather than laws of war."

"Yes they do."

Rex> I don't think it will come to it but, better safe than killed with a disruptor.

9:21 PM

ACTION> The team passes several more signs of a fire fight until the come to the entrance of the main command area of the small station. There's some energy scarring on the door as if it's been hit with a disruptor more than once, but its no longer locked and slides open as they approach.

ACTION> The Main Control Center is a mess like the rest of the station. It's clear this is where they made their final stand but it wasn't enough and there are several more bodies here of various Federation races.

"So glad I'm wearing a rebreather mask." William said as he entered the room. "Alright, where's the main computer?" William pokes around a bit.

She advances slowly. "Looks more like a siege than a firefight." Getting into the control center, Irene takes her tricorder back out. "Terminal's over here."

Rex> Takes a look around wearily. He'd seen more than his fair share of scenes like this before, but it never got easy.

William follows Irene to the terminal and plugs into it. "Let's see what you have to tell us."

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::Steps away while the others are investigating the terminal to report back to Excalibur on what they've found thus far.::

"Did they record this firefight?"

ACTION> The sensor logs have been forcibly wiped using crude, if effective, measures: the data core has taken a shot (or three) from a disruptor. Only fragments are available.

"Damnit it all to hell. It's fragmented as hell."

"Answers that.." :: sighs again ::

Rex> Well thats one way to wipe a data core. Frowns

"And probably the single most effective way. Unless you want to reuse it."

Irene scans what's left of the memory core. "I don't think I'm going to get much out of this, and I don't know if stations this old keep backups anywhere."

"Given who the occupants were, I'm not sure they were doing diligent backups."

Rex> Well seems like they didn't want anyone following their tracks. Moves over to another console. Communications logs are fragged too. There's an entry from a few months ago, but its been lost. These stations were mostly setup for civilian usage so there's not much robustness in the way of security or other kind of systems.

"Just what is working?"

"Life support?"

Irene> "Yeah, that's about it. Everything else here is shot up. Nothing's left up here that I can pull any data off of."

Rex> What about subsystem usage? It might not tell us who was doing something, but we could maybe get a reliable account of what they were doing at least up to the attack.

"That's probably still there. I can certainly try." William starts poking around in the computer system.

Rex> And for how long

Irene hrms and starts working with Will at the computer. "Engineering power statistics?"

(( Irene and Will give me a number 1-20 ))

ACTION> Working together, Will and Irene find not only the subsystem logs, but also a number of logs for primary and other systems completely in tact, including the transporter systems -- providing a detailed record of station activities for the last six months -- when the station was apparently brought back on line.

"Whoo! Jackpot! Relatively speaking."

(Sorry, stepped away for a sec right then.)

"Yeah, looks like they didn't get all the logs when they shot up the place. We've got a bunch of engineering and system usage info going back to when they turned this place on again."

"Yeah, a whole lot of data there."

Rex> First bit of good news.

Rex> Taps a few buttons It looks like the stations sensor equipment is also still functionl. Considers Irene, could we use this to get a better scan of the planet than Excalibur? I know our sensors are advanced and this stuff is older but its pretty high quality imaging.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::Returns after giving his report.:: So, how bad is it? Is there anything we can salvage?

"We have subsystem usage logs, and logs for a bunch of the systems in use. Otherwise the data core was destroyed."

Rex> To be honest, this equipment alone was probably worth more on the black market than any of the mining equipment they stole.

"Gather all we can."

"Well, a stabilized platform is going to give you better resolution than a moving ship, that's for sure. The station is designed specifically for that kind of work, so I'd say we might be able to pick things up that Excalibur would miss."

Rex> Worth a try then.

William starts gathering up the data so that they can analyze it later.

"Definitely worth a try. I'll see if I can set that up here." She starts working at one of the few consoles that's still functioning.

(Wow lost track of time)
