So, night shift reported several more energy pulses. Counter frequencies prevented any disruption to power. The pattern of attacks would indicate deliberate attempts, not natural.

What thoughts do we have on our situation?

Either answer, we need to stop them.

Do we have a procedure down for setting up the return portal?

"Yes, we have it down, through a lot of work overnight, to ten minutes."

As of now, my plan is to send a security squad in first.

:: Points to a display of the first portal :: "It's ready to go now."

They have 5 minutes to secure the area and then engineering and command go through, followed by medical.

If the security squad runs into trouble, they will send a high frequency burst. Hopefully, we can pick something of that up and be ready, but it's actually a long shot we'll get any notice of trouble until we're across.

Fire up the portal.

ACTION: A snap and a pulse of blue glow and the portal comes to life

:: Hears the crackling of the blue energy field defining a membrane between our reality and whatever that was. ::

ACTION: Security squads two by two go through the portal

ACTION: The away team appear on an open field, looking much like the colony site when we first landed on the planet.

:: turns to the captain :: "That felt different."

ACTION: Security squads are spread out forming a perimeter.

::has her team grab their equipment and ready to go::

@ ::watching the power and sensor readings::

Clear this area. ::moving away from the entry point:::

::Nijil:: Find a spot and get to work.

::leads her team through the portal:: Let's go.

:: Looks back as the other portal enters the field :: "Right away."

I don't see anyone in the area. ::getting report from the security squad commands::

Sensors still don't seem to work very well here.

:: Moves over and opens the boxes containing the other portal :: "Come on, we are on the clock..."

::directing the squads as they start trenching in this position.::

::Mimi:: Once the return portal is secure, we'll fire off a flare and recon probes to try and locate any survivors.

:: Gets the base of the portal in position. The other portal was a good dozen meters away just in case they both were active and created a doorway with the same charge. ::

::Nods:: We'll hold off a bit unloading the equipment

:: Watches the base leveled and in place ::

::wonders if, given their desire for solitude, the new refugees might prefer the other place once there's a stable portal and a way for the rest of their people to rejoin them::

Yes. While I don't want to leave anyone here without help, if we don't have a secure way to return then I don't want to so boldly announce our presence.
