USS Excalibur - Sundays 10 ET - Command Staff: Cptn Swain, CdrMirandaHawthorne

MISSION BRIEF: Excalibur has left Xenex behind and is en route to the somewhat remote Dakaris system to investigate a tip on the stolen mining equipment from our previous mission. Dakaris is located on the edge of the Romulan and Federation's shared borders and proximially to the Black Cluster -- the gateway to Breen space.

William monitors the various engineering things from the Engineering station on the bridge. "Everything's within parameters right now."

Irene's at her usual spot at the science station. "Nothing weirder than normal on scan."

Anything on sensors inside the system itself?

9:12 PM

Rex> Frowns Nothing on sensors yet, but they could be use sensoring masking techniques. It's not like wildcatters are going to fly a flag and say here we are.

"Would be a lot easier if they did."

Irene> "Well, there could be traces of radioactive ores from the original mine on the equipment."

Rex> tips his head to Irene

Any way we can scan for that?

Irene> "It'd have to be a lot of radioactive decay to find it at this distance, but I can set up the sensors to look. If we can get an idea of where specifically to search, it'd be a lot easier."

How long until we enter the system?

Val> "At current speed, 20 minutes?"

Rex> Frowns at the sensor readings Still nothing on sensors.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::Attention wavering between his chair console and the data padd in his hand.::

"Do we need more power to the sensors?"

Irene> "It couldn't hurt, but it's still going to be finding a needle in a haystack."

"Figured I'd offer."

A small part of him hoped they didn't find anything. If they didn't, well, his curiosity would be saited and they could head out. But if Starfleet didn't expect them to find anything, wouldn't they have just let him look into this anyway? Not send them out to the otherside of the sector to scan for "gaseous anomalies"

William adjusts the power balancing. "Hope this helps."

Rex> There's an old Federation observatory in orbit of the fourth planet. It hasn't been used in years, but if I were running a smuggling/wildcat mining operation you can bet I'd take advantage of that --

"That's a good point."

Irene> "That would be a good place to start."

Nods

9:28 PM

Rex> At this range though we should be able to get something on sensors if they were. Pulls up the main viewer

Irene> Concentrating on the science panel pretty closely. "I've tuned the medium-range scanner to pick up the mine's radiographic decay signature, so we should be able to see something if so."

ACTION> Irene's scans seems to pick up very faint signatures on the third planet -- a rocky, though still barely M-class planet. There also appears to be the tell-tell signatures of Tetracite on the planet. The observatory, an older scientific station, appears on the main screen. From our vantage point it has seen better days.

9:36 PM

Helm, put in an intercept course for the station. Yellow Alert. Jalen Take an away team over. Rex is right, wildcatters wouldn't just leave that station abandoned.

Irene> Hmmmm. "You're right in your assessment of the station but I'm picking up radioactive traces on the third planet, sir. I'm not getting anything from the station."

(( for visual aid, the observatory is basically the same type as the Amargosa one in Generations))

Glances over to Irene Noted. We can stop by the station first then head to the third planet. Looks to Jalen I have an incredibly bad feeling about this.

Irene> "It's a standard observatory from about 40 years ago, so our tricorders will have the station layout preloaded."

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::Nods.:: Isn't that always the way? ::Turns as he stands.:: Rex, get a team together. Mincine, Chocox, meet in the transporter room. We're going to need those isotope trackers.

"Aye sir."

Irene> "Meet you there." She heads for the turbolift.

Stands straightening his uniform as the station fills the screen as Excalibur enters orbit

William heads for the turbolift as well.

Rex> Nods and taps a few buttons before heading out

9:45 PM

Clark> Looks over to Val, he didn't like it when Swain was all ominious and stuff

Val> Whispering. "I wouldn't want to be on that away team."

Cdr Jalen Stanton> ::Taps his comm as he strides out.:: +Indaura+ Doctor, I need you for an away team. Report to the transporter room with your kit.

Rex> Using the clipping magic of tv, Rex and a small security team arrive in the transporter room.

"Hello Rex."

Clark> Nods with a frown Sir, I am not detecting any life signs, but the obervatory's life support systems are functional.

Irene arrives next, with those sensor enhancer sticks strapped around her back along with her satchel of science equipment. "Who're we waiting for?"

"I think the doctor?"

:: enters the transporter room ::

Rex> Slings a phaser riffle over his shoulder, it was probably overkill but he'd learned, at least with Excalibur, to be overly cautious.

9:51 PM

Rex> Glances up as the doctor enters and head nods his crew to get on the transporter pad

Cdr Jalen Stanton> Everyone here? ::Takes a sweeping glance and nods as he steps up onto the transporter padd.:: Then let's go.

Cdr Jalen Stanton> +Bridge+ Ready to transport.

William steps up with his gear.

Irene> "Bringing the artillery?" At the phaser rifle, as she gets up on the pad.

TransporterChief> Beaming you over.

ACTION> The Excalibur team beams over to the observatory, planted down in a corridor just outside the main "commons" area of the station. The lights are flickering on and off and it is, immediately, clear that there has been some sort of fire fight on the station. Cargo containers have been erected in the hallway as makeshift barricades. A human male is laying across one of them with severe disruptor burns. The scene looks a few days old at least.

"Huh...well then. I think we may have found our smugglers."

Cdr Jalen Stanton> And someone came after them?

Cdr Jalen Stanton> Or infighting?

William puts a mask over his mouth and nose. "We'd probably need to see what route the fighting took."

Rex> Frowns These are consistent with a type 3 disruptor.

Irene> Examining the scene with her tricorder as soon as she materializes. "This place is shot up pretty badly but the atmosphere is stable. This fight took place at least a few days ago, so I guess we just missed whoever we were after."

Rex> Looks like they were using these old cargo containers to barricade themselves in the commons area. Frowns We should take a look in there.

10:00 PM

Rex> Looks to Will and Irene Maybe the station logs can give us an idea of what was going on here.

"That's a good idea."

"The air smells off."

Rex> He glances to the somewhat shook security officers he'd brought with them. Morel, Thomas secure the perimeter.

Irene> She finds a terminal and hooks up her tricorder. "OK, let's see what the computer has to say about what happened."

:: Scans the male ::

"That's why I put the mask on."

ACTION> Nothing unusual about the dead body other than it's a dead body. Cause of death is several disruptor hits in close quarters. The energy signature is, as Rex concluded, consistent with a Type 3 disruptor -- which narrows it down to Klingon, Romulans, or Breen.
