USS Excalibur - Sundays 10 ET - Command Staff: Cptn Swain, CdrMirandaHawthorne

Mission Brief: Engineering has received new orders to assist with aquifer revitalization, the previous orders seemingly coming from a nonexistent person. Science is making progress in their survey. Asher is several wine glasses deep at the reception. We pick up with engineering ready to beam down.

William shimmers onto what he hopes is the surface of the planet they've been assigned to assist in aquifer revitalization.

Irene is having herself a good time with her planetary survey, accompanied by random blueshirts.

ACTION> The Engineering team beams to an active work site on the edge of the plains, nearer the large reservoir that the Danteri had built by diverting water from the aquifer and several streams.

William breathes deep "Smell that? Smells like a great opportunity."

Ens Reynolds> ::Shimmers down with Chocox, having already beamed down their equipment. He took a look at the site, then glanced to Chocox.:: Looks like an impressive project, at the very least.

"Mhmm. Now, where's that Lieutenant?"

"Finally on my way." :: Indaura says to herself ::

Val> "Transporter room reports Engineering is on the surface."

Cardol> A 20-something Lt with sandy blond hair wearing Corps gear approaches the Excal group You must be Lt Chocolate from the Excalibur?

William blinks. "Lieutenant Chocolate is on the U.S.S. Lolly Pop Guild. I'm Lieutenant Commander Chocox." He sticks out his hand to shake the new Lieutenant's hand.

Cardol> Yeah, Chocolate. takes the hand Lt Gorel said you’d be coming, he got called over to another site where we’re working on drainage issues. Wanted me to help get you pointed in the right direction.

William grips the hand hard. "You sure you got my name right?"

Cardol> Chocox Shrugs I am Lt Barry Cardol, 256th Engineering Battalion. Anyway, y’all can head this way.

"Thank you. Glad to be down here." William follows Lieutenant Cardol.

:: Sees what looks like the medical facility as shown on her PADD ::

Cardol> The Danteri used pumping stations to draw water firstly from the unconfined aquifer, and when they’d drained that, used core drilling to get to the confined one. Basically the whole basin was drained.

"Oh wow. And we're replenishing it?"

The engineering team would also be receiving the results of contamination analyses of soil from the basin from Irene's team.

Cardol> That’s the plan anyway. Goal is to use the reservoir water first, then if we need to we can start bringing in water from Excalibur.

Cardol> The problem is that removing so much of the groundwater and aquifer has made things unstable. This whole area he motions used to have an underground lake 500m deep.

"Surprised we haven't lost people to a sinkhole."

ACTION> Indarua found the medical facilities to be a hub of organized chaos. Medics and doctors were seeing to patients that seemed to be suffering from some sort of purple pox.

"What the f-." :: Goes over to see the comotion, if she can even get there. ::

Cardol> It’s mostly settled. The occupation was like 300 years and they built this reservoir pretty early on, both to drive out the clans in the basin and provide hydro power for their mining operations.

Cardol> The Xenexians have kept the actual retention structure as maintained as they can, but that’s a whole other thing.

"I see."

Cardol> We also wondered why the ground water simply didn’t seep back in— the Danteri covered the whole damn lake bed with some kind of chemical barrier.

"Seriously? Just to be pricks or what?"

Cardol> Shrugs They’re supposedly sending us some information on how we can get rid of it once the water is gone. Now that they’re, you know. Federation members.

"Gotcha."

Ens Reynolds> ::snorts::

Xenexian Nurse> ::Holds a hand up to Indaura.:: Can I help you with something? Are you sick? Injured?

Cardol> The Xenexians motions to a team of engineers of locals working on a large piece of equipment have the most working knowledge of the pumps and drilling shafts, so we’re leaning ob their expertise for that.

"Makes the most sense."

"I am not sick. I am a doctor from the USS Excalibur? This place is barely managed chaos. How did it lead to this?"

Cardol> What we’re hoping you can help with is setting up the pumping equipment at the reservoir itself and then running the lines down.

"Sounds a lot more fun than what we initially thought you wanted."

Cardol> Lifts a brow

"Our initial communications made it seem like we were on Latrine duty."

Nurse> ::Glances at the full emergency unit.:: One of the survey teams came in with a strange illness. They'd been taking soil samples, and apparently something out there caused a reaction. It starts with those spots, then they contract a fever. We're thinking a bacterial or fungal infection, but have been unable to isolate the cause.

Nurse> Were you sent from Starfleet Medical to help?

Irene> Ominous shot of a blueshirt scratching their arm.

Cardol> Wonders if Will can read but doesn’t press the point. hands him a padd Anyway you can see the layout here— the reservoir is about 5 clicks north. We can’t use shuttles or beam directly up there.

Cardol> whatever crap they put on the lake floor scatters transporter beams, and there’s a wicked updraft that catches shuttles. So we have a small fleet of transports.

"There were some crossed wires when we were coming into the system. We'll get our gear loaded up and head out forthwith."

"Seems more likely fungal. But to answer your question I was not sent, but I will help nonetheless."

"Let me examine one of your patients." :: She gets out her medicorder ::

Cardol> Lake is roughly 35km long and 220m deep.

((I have no frame of reference for if that's big or not.))

"Impressive."

Cardol> If it wasn’t created in the name of imperial oppression it would be a pretty impressive engineering accomplishment

Nurse> Well, it can't hurt. We don't think it's particular contageous, but we're still taking quarantine precautions. You'll need to suit up if you're going to come into contact with them.

( In Arizona a lake is a small pond, likely with brain eating bacteria)

"Yeah, unfortunate that the circumstances dictate otherwise."

"Suit me up then."

Ens Reynolds> ::Spots the transports and moved to one of their crates, activating the hover lift to start the loading.::

Nurse> ::Points to the cleanroom.:: Everything you need is in there. You'll have to go through decon to get in or out of the quarantine wing. I have to get back to my own duties. ::Hustles off.::

"Thank you Reynolds."

Cardol> Well, I’ll let you hop to — let me know if you need anything Chocolate. Heads off

"Will do Corolla!" William starts helping load.

Ens Reynolds> ::Snorts again.:: He doesn't know how to listen, does he?
