..Annisha is off to the settlement with whom?

"There is a welcome group taking kids her age around, Alexis is with her so what could happen?" :: turns to look in the direction of the Federation settlement ::

Are you seriously asking me "What could happen?" where Annisha and Alexis together are concerned?

:: Looking at computer simulation runs of the portal ::

"I belive they are in a group of about twenty."

"I believe we are ready for the most part. Diagnostics are running now. Captain?"

Good. You are cleared for small scale test runs.

I am locating a little more remote spot for larger tests.

"We can watch here. Let me bring up the video." :: A live feed of the portal generator appears on the screen. Engineers can be seen milling about, some walking, some at stations ::

"Should be a show in blue."

A show..?

"The barrier of the portal emits radiation at about 432 nanometers."

Very short range.

"Starting the power generation into the capacitors.. about one minute."

:: Appears at random ::

:: turns to the captain :: "Generator is charged. On your order sir."

::continues working on some patients::

::watches the monitors::

:: Unsure where she is, but it's not at the camp :: Well..

"Here we go.."

::dealing with reports with our current additions::

::watching the sensor readings twitching ::

:: The generator emits it's blue-lit beam towards a stabilizing 'ring. The light burst in brightness, dissipating quickly. A blue barrier wabbled within the confines of the ring. ::

Sensor readings seem promising.

:: Muuhi walked along a gray but well-lit corridor. Certainly not the green she was told about from the Rihan pallet. ::

"They are going to launch a test cylinder."

Ready to receive data.

:: She walked toward the end of the hall, hearing voices and seeing more light ::

:: They tossed the cylinder into the barrier, literally. Well, with robotic help :: "There it goes."

Well, it went somewhere. Still not sure if a comm signal can even cross that barrier.

No explosion, so we'll count that as a success at least.

"It will emit a transmission by many methods."

Which probably means the refugees will detect it.

:: Finally people. She entered some rather grand lobby. Large hallways poked off in three other directions. Species of all manners milled about. ::

"We may have to wait a bit on the transmission."

If we get one.

"You know, we will need to create another portal on the other side."

"The field is fluxuating a bit, compensating."

...so...do we send materials and instructions through?

Seeing a slight variation in the portal field energy. I think the signal is being consumed by the field as added energy.

If this portal remains stable then we can work on larger version and a portable set up.

"Yeah, that could be an issue. You know, perhaps we can manipulate the portal field energy to relay messages."

"Text messages at first, perhaps audio later."

Would they know what to expect to be able to decipher them, and would they have any way of return communication? I think we'd likely be better off just sending a container with a message and the means of making a return portal. Potentially with someone able to do so, if it seems stable and safe to do so

:: Muuhi moved towards the crowd. No one paid her any mind or realized she was a sentient projection ::

I would rather keep this tech to ourselves for the moment.

Still unsure of the refugees motives and not sure they would ahve the equipment even if we gave them the information.

"We are still in early days on this tech."

Let's see if we can shut the portal down.

:: She bumped into a human :: Oh, pardon me. :: She bowed in apology, as nearly everyone else was shorter than her. ::

"Right. Signaling the team to stand clear." :: Nijil waited a moment :: "Shut down in three, two, one..."

ACTION: Portal sends out a nice arcing spark, but otherwise shuts down.

Well, that's probably a manageable side effect. So, not bad.

"That looked like a burp."

"The cylinder will record what it can."

::yawns, widens her eyes and shakes her head a bit::to self:: Been reading to many reports

Let's churn through the data and prepare for another test in 2 hours. Next test cylinders should send a simple pulsing signal. That should be easy to detect in the field.

"I do wonder if someone on the other side would do anything to it."

:: Muhhi hears a voice calling her name... "Muuhi!" ::

Lots and lots of report

Possible. Given the refugees land transports, even if they headed directly towards our corresponding position, they would not arrive for another day or two.

:: A dark-haired girl runs out of her line and toward the tall feline :: "Muuhi? Are you here to see the city with us?"

:: huffs :: "These refugees are more than what they seem."

I do believe so.

Alexis> ::follows Annisha:: Hey, whatcha doin’ here?

Hope so. They'll need it.

:: Muuhi gives Annish a hug, having to bend down to give it :: I don't know how I got here. My program much have travelled to this place."

But, if this next test shows success we can probably work to drop a signal beacon and medical suppliis.

:: Nods :: Medical supplies are a good start, perhaps food...MREs"

Alexis> You took a wrong turn from the sickbay?

:: Rubs Alexis' head :: "A very distant turn."
