USS Excalibur - Sundays 10 ET - Command Staff: Cptn Swain, CdrMirandaHawthorne

MISSION BRIEF: When we last left off, Excalibur was in orbit of Xenex, a mostly desert world that has been slowly but surely rebuilding since the late 50s after nearly 350 years of occupation by the Danteri Empire. Engineering and Science are assiting locals and a group of Starfleet Corps of Engineers in an important project to restore a major wetland area. Swain has been pulled into a diplomatic reception honoring the Excalibur, but not ours - a previous Excalibur commanded by the Liberator of Xenex, retired Captain Mackenzie of Calhoun.

William was in Captain Swain's quarters, taking measurements for the sauna.

:: Organizing medical ::

Irene is with a whole team of blueshirts surveying the planet's wetlands restoration area. They set up a little base camp already, with quick-deploying tents and hexagonal containers of science crap everywhere.

%Swain> Arriving at the swanky new Mackenzie of Calhoun Diplomatic Conference Center, which was being built in an effort by the Xenexian government to attract diplomatic, scientific, and other conferences to the Xenex. Outside, where tents had been setup for a pre-reception, misters were trying to cool the air down and Asher wished he'd pulled his hair back. Instead he'd chosen Hairstyle #578997 of the Asher-Excalibur era, with his black hair flowing over either shoulder and a half braid on the left.

Val> "It's a busy place. They do know Cap's not the savior of their planet, right?"

:: Looks around in front of the conference center ::

"Definitely better than digging latrines. However, I've never been asked to add a sauna to my commanding officer's quarters."

%Iinik> Ah, Captain Swain. A man in traditional Xenexian dress approached Asher holding a glass of wine. It was so good of you to come to celebrate the Liberator.

"I do wonder what has the Corps of Engineers' underwear in a bunch."

Val> Smirking. "Aren't you glad you didn't get roped into diplomatic service?"

Rex> Someone had to sit in the big chair.

Ens Reynolds> They probably got asked to build latrines and wanted to pass the buck so we had to do it.

Irene> Notices their approach and waves them over to the largest tent, where she's set up shop with some collapsible tables and a stack of portable computers. "Ah, you're here. We've just been setting up since we got down here."

C'n'k'l'v of Selwin> Has a small army of Xenexian science students with her You know this once one of the most productive farming regions in the entire planet. Before the occupation.

Ens Reynolds> Nah, I barely made it into Starfleet. I mean... uh... I'm happy where I am.

Ens Reynolds> I like traveling on a starship, though I wish we'd see more places than away team missions where things are trying to kill us.

Irene> "It's a common theme among occupations, unfortunately." She starts counting the science students - she wasn't expecting to be a teacher or anything here. "Oh, who are... they?"

"Oh yeah? What kind of things?"

C'n'k'l'v of Selwin> These are the best and brightest of the Selwin Polytechnic Academy. Many of them are hoping for a spot on a Federation starship someday, and I am sure many of them will have questions about serving aboard the Excalibur.

Ens Reynolds> You know... things! All the things. Everytime we step off the ship something wants to put us under. Can't we ever just find a nice planet populated with nothing but scantily clad women that want to feed you grapes?

"Isn't that shore leave on Risa?" William smirks as he starts placing some panels.

(( sorry, we only go to planets with scantily clad men ))

I mean... yea... but when was the last time we got to go to Risa? Surely there are other planets where people are nice and there are no secret monsters.

:: After wandering a bit she turns to enter the conference center ::

"That's true. We have had a weird amount of dangerous encounters."

Irene> "Oh, uh..." She's putting on her best diplomacy face. "Well, as long as they don't get in the way too much." A blueshirt comes up asking Irene about soil samples.

C'n'k'l'v of Selwin> Has a very serious face They are looking forward to being a amjor part of restoring water to this region, Ensign. They are among the finest students on all of Xenex.

ACTION> Excalibur gets a message from the surface asking where their engineering teams are. It does not seem like they are very pleased that "the Excalibur's teams are late, without notice"

Irene> Hmmm. "Well, there's definitely plenty of work for them to do. The first thing we need is a grid of core samples so we can determine where contamination is the worst and how it has spread. Grouping your students up with our teams will get that done a lot faster than I expected."

William responds with, "Necessary repairs to Excalibur personnel quarters took precedence."

Ens Reynolds> ::Lifts eyebrows at the message and Will's reply.:: Umm... I wonder if the Commander is going to get in trouble for this one.

"I just told them that there were necessary repairs to personnel quarters. They don't know what we're doing."

:: Indaura watches everyone in the lobby ::

Action> A message is fired off to Excalibur command staff, cc-ing Will, expressing their no too subtle dissatisfaction with the “Disregard for the importance of this mission, and generally suggesting that Excaliburs command crew should put Will in the Brig for ‘flagrant violation of protocol’l

Will looks at their latest message. "They're not my commanding officer. And my commanding officer gave me a set of orders."

Val> Messing with her console. "Hmm. Getting increased transmissions from the surface. I wonder who got shot, stabbed, made angry, or caused a diplomatic incident."

Ens Reynolds> ::Boggles:: Wow, they are definitely mad. Good thing they can't do anything to you without the Captain's say.

"Indeed."

Ens Reynolds> We should finish his sauna before he gets back to stay on his good side.

"That's my plan."

Asher sees the message and ignores it, while drinking his third glass of wine, having attracted more attention than he wanted by mentioning he actually knew Mack at the Academy

:: Goes up to the desk :: "Hello, I am from the Excalibur."

Irene> She looks around the camp for another blueshirt. "Miral? Can you get the students assigned to some of the survey teams? Make sure we've got enough equipment for them all, too. Call up to the ship if we need some more brought down."

%Desk> Looks Indaura over Do you have an invitation, uh, Ensign?

"Not an Ensign thanks, and not per se. We just arrived."

%Desk> shrugs Well this is a VIP reception, no one with out an invite.

"Well that's disappointing, is there anything here that does not require a VIP credential?"

Will continues attaching the new room panels to the ceiling and floor of the quarters.

Ens Reynolds> ::Quick to help, but the system was pretty easy to snap together.::

Val> She thinks for a moment. "No way. You think they'd let her out of her quarters if Cap or Commander Hawthorne thought she'd screw up that bad already?"

Desk> shrugs again I am not a tourist agency.

Val> "But you heard what they're doing in Cap's quarters, right?"

ACTION> A message goes out copying Excalibur Command and Engineering, this time to the regional director for Corps of Engineers from the head Corps officer on the planet. It’s tone is extremely aggressive, and suggests Excalibur be reassigned and it’s commanding officer’s questioned.
