An Introduction to Terza Gio

Terza Gio (not to be confused with Gio Moderi) was the first delegate. In fact, the whole spin-off evolved from plans to continue this story with Terza's player.

"To Absent Friends"

Captain's Log, Stardate 10008.30

"My girlfriend is a man."

"Come again?" Alexandra Mackey was non-plussed by the statement. She had grown used to such melodramatic statements from her captain.

"My girlfriend is a man," Moose repeated emphatically.

"Well," she said thoughtfully. "At least you have a girlfriend again. It's been quite some time for you. It's a good thing that you've grown close to someone, even if they aren't what you expected."

Moose rolled his eyes as he leaned his head against the backrest of her couch. She only said things like that to draw him out. He wasn't going to fall for it. "She's not my girlfriend anymore. She used to be."

"Because now she's a man?"

"Exactly," he said exasperated.

"Captain," she said patiently, "Who are we talking about?"

"Gio," he answered quietly.

"Terza Gio, our new diplomatic liaison?" If Alex was surprised, she didn't let it show. She had already met the trill, but her opinion of him was impossible to determine from her reaction.

"No, Roma Gio, the prior host."

"That's curious," she mused. "Trills are usually prohibited from having contact with people from their prior lives. It's very unusual."

"Lucky me. As always, I'm the exception to every rule."

"Do we need to discuss self-depracation again?"

"No," he said firmly.

"Why do you think he's here? It it possible that Terza didn't know you were here?"

"No."

Alex didn't argue. Gio had been meticulous in his research about the Arcadia. His knowledge of recent events was so detailed, he might as well have been aboard for months. "Do you think he's looking to pick up where you and Roma left off?"

"No."

"Is there unfinished business between the two of you?"

The silence hung tangibly in the room. "Let's talk about your relationship with Roma," she stated rather than asked.

"It was brief, but meaningful, as they say. It started quickly and ended quickly. It was no big deal."

"Did she end it?"

"No," he said, pausing for reflexion. "I did."

"How did she feel about that?"

"I don't know."

"Did you ever talk to her about it?"

"No," he admitted grudgingly. "I wanted nothing more to do with her at the time."

"That isn't like you, to be so callous about someone else's feelings."

"Isn't it," he asked? "Maybe it is? Maybe that's just who I am?"

"Perhaps," Alex said non-comittedly. "Why did you leave her?"

He thought for a moment, trying to remember while still being able to not remember. He struggled for the glib answer that would end this thread of conversation, but it didn't come. "I don't know," he lied.

Alex said nothing in reply. She simply continued to stare at him. He avoided her gaze, trying not to squirm. She only did things like that in order to draw him out. He wasn't going to fall for it. "It's hard to explain," he began.

To be continued...
