That Others May Live

That Others May Live
Chirakis

In the year 2388 on the 22nd day of the 10th month, Sky Harbor Aegis opened its doors to a new station, the third incarnation of Sky Harbor Aegis.  In the year 2388 on the 14th day of the 7th month, Sky Harbor Aegis was gone, having disappeared into the abyss never to be seen again. Its commanding officer, Chirakis Kirel of SI5, disappeared with the station, knowing full well that if she did not destroy it, the Alien Alliance would use Sky Harbor Aegis for a base of operations.  They would make good use of their cordon around the Joint Allied Powers.  In essence, the Alien Alliance would take custody of the Joint Allied Powers. They would be used as slaves, they would be tortured, and possibly killed.  However, the station was gone as was its commanding officer.

As soon as Captain Chirakis pressed a button on her uniform, she and Sky Harbor Aegis disappeared into the abyss.  It did not take long for the Alien Alliance to reverse course, leaving countless shattered ships behind with only a few Border Patrol ships damaged.  Ordinarily, personnel aboard Starfleet ships would be rejoicing.  This time they were not.

Aegis was gone.
The captain was gone.
Personnel from Aegis had nowhere to go, no place to live, and no one to direct them.

Iowa’s Captain Jon Kelley leaned against his ship’s window pain, head bowed struggling to forget what had just happened.  Then suddenly,  “Damnit, Jer,” he shouted, raising a fist ready to smash it into the stained glass window.  Missouri’s Captain Je’rit d’Ka took a forceful hold of Kelley’s wrist and turned him around.

“Jon,” he began quietly, “She is gone. She has given her life that others may live.  Now we must do the same. We must move on.”
