The origin of the beam is confirmed to be in another galaxy 2.5 million light years away. Arcadia speeds from Eta Omicron to the beam. They try an interference pattern with the phasers, which results in not-wholly physically predictable interference, suggesting that there is some intelligence at work inside the beam. Meanwhile, the beam continues toward its next victim.
