USS Excalibur Sim Log - 10.25.20

MISSION BRIEF: The team in the caves have taken several samples of smaller crystals back with them to the surface, while on the yacht engineering has made some preliminary steps towards reversing the loss of power, in particular towards being able to restart the warp core. Meanwhile, Lt. Cmdr Rex has continued to nap.

Cptn Swain: Rex> ::napping with the book open on his chest, a candy bar laying nearby::

William Chocox: ((::makes sure his # is still sitting atop his head like a hat::))

William Chocox: #::continues walking up to the building he thinks is the main lab::

Irene Mincine: @ :: Irene leads the science crew back to the main camp, carrying a few crystal pieces in her pockets. ::

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> ::another of the many science nerds from the original expedition:: Ah --::to will:: How can I help?

William Chocox: ((::takes his # off::))

William Chocox: Ah, yes, hello, is this the main lab here? I have an idea and a question. Probably multiple questions, but we'll see where we go.

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> ::Looks at the officer strangely, but smiles:: Fire away

William Chocox: I have an idea on how to prevent power loss from the various batteries and what not here, but it requires Trellium. You wouldn't happen to have any or a way to make it would you?

Irene Mincine: :: Irene arrives back at the lab, other science nerds in tow. :: "Hey, we've got some samples of crystals that might get us powered back up again."

William Chocox: Oh, cool. Multiple ideas!

Indaura Ryssan: :: Gets out a crystal or two from her pocket ::

William Chocox: Fascinating.

Indaura Ryssan: :: plays with them in her hand::

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> ::shakes his head:: Not in any large amount ::considers:: but the crystals in the cave have trac... ::glances over to Irene:: Who invited the Klingon science department? ::grins::

William Chocox: ::glares at Falkyn:: You wanna run that by me again?

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> The crystals in the cave below do have some trace amounts of trellium in them. ::missing zero beats::

William Chocox: That's interesting.

William Chocox: (m) But not what I meant.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene scoffs at Falkyn. :: "They send us in when the Federation can't figure it out." :: She places a few crystal shards on the table in the center. She's got more important things to worry about than casual spacism. :: "They act as energy resonators. It seems like they could amplify what's left in our batteries."

Indaura Ryssan: Would that not break up the crystalline structure, making them susceptible to fracture?

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> Well that was among the many reasons we've been studying them.

Irene Mincine: "I would think so but I'm a biologist, not a geologist. They've got some strange properties."

William Chocox: Reynolds and I were thinking that a Trellium barrier would prevent the theta radiation from draining the batteries.

Indaura Ryssan: Do they have any application as dilithium does?

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> ::to Will:: That would make sense. ::Indaura:: Dilithium acts as a regulator for anti-matter reactions in much the same way graphite does for nuclear reactions.

William Chocox: I was more thinking of using it as a shield rather than a regulator, like he said.

Irene Mincine: :: To Indaura. :: "We want something that boosts output, not something that moderates it."

Indaura Ryssan: Energy must be attracted to these crystals, so there's a polarity involved... but in the end, the power needs to go somewhere.

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> Well, could you rig a device to transfer the energy from the crystals to our devices, and presumably your ship?

Irene Mincine: "There's enough resonant crystals in the cavern to power a starbase if we can figure out how to capture and transfer it." :: She looks to William. ::

William Chocox: Well, we'll never know unless we try.

Indaura Ryssan: Sorry, but how can this power a starbase?

William Chocox: If you have enough energy.

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> ::does jazz hands:: Magic

Irene Mincine: "Okay, it's an exaggeration... but if we start with what's left in our batteries and feed it through the crystal chamber somehow, we'll get a much larger amount of energy out from the resonance boost. Either that or blow ourselves into orbit, but that's why I'm not an engineer."

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> Por que no los dos?

Irene Mincine: :: She looks at Falkyn, who she decidedly does not care for. :: "You wanna be helpful or sarcastic?"

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> ::Considers repeating himself, but decides against:: I am not much of an engineer, but we do have a number of parts that might be helpful in building an energy converter. ::Points to several large boxes:: One of the teams that was supposed to be working with the Romulans were going to do testing on the crystals amplification properties, but since the Romulans pulled out we've been busy with other things.

Indaura Ryssan: :: Still wishes she took more physics classes ::

William Chocox: ::walks over and starts looking through the boxes::

Irene Mincine: :: Valdar, the geologist, follows Chocox and starts digging through the boxes. :: Valdar> "Hmm..."

William Chocox: Lots of cool gear here.

Irene Mincine: Irene> "Fortunately we do have some people who know how energy converters work, or at least how crystals work."

Indaura Ryssan: :: Puts the crystals back in her pocket ::

Indaura Ryssan: Imagine what a phaser would do to a crystal.

Indaura Ryssan: Oh, wonder if they have any biological properties

William Chocox: ::ponders:: Ooh, what would a phaser do to a crystal? ::files that away in his brain::

Irene Mincine: Valdar> :: While collecting some parts from the boxes. :: "A directed energy beam plus this much amplification?"

Cptn Swain: Falkyn> ::has disappeared::

Cptn Swain: Rex> ::yawns as he wakes up, and notices he was out for a lot longer than he'd planned::

William Chocox: Chocox wants a big boom! ::looks around:: Where'd that nerdy fella scamper off to?

Irene Mincine: :: Irene shrugs, not noticing either. :: "Don't know, don't care. He was a jerk. I haven't seen the head of the expedition in a while, either."

William Chocox: Hm...makes the suspicious part of my brain tingle.

Cptn Swain: Rex> +Will+ Rex to Will, report

Indaura Ryssan: :: Takes out a crystal, sings to it :: la la la la la la laaaa!

William Chocox: +Rex+ Commander, we're figuring out if we can block the radiation that's been draining the power as well as using the crystals to amplify the power we have left.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene looks quizzical at Indaura... :: "I don't think that's going to do much..."

Cptn Swain: Rex> ::Blinks:: +Will+ Uh... well that's some developments. Where are you at?

William Chocox: +Rex+ We're in the main lab.

Cptn Swain: Rex> ::standing and stretching, he laid the trashy betazoid romance novel down:: +Will+ On my way, you can fill me in when I get there. I've been uh, consulting with, uh, mission summaries from the science team. Rex out.

Cptn Swain: TWO MINUTE WARNING

Indaura Ryssan: I sing to my beetles

William Chocox: +Rex+ Understood. Chocox out.

Irene Mincine: "You're... an interesting one, doc." :: Irene steps away from Indaura and toward Will. :: "One hour of holodeck time says he's been reading the captain's copy of Vulcan Love Slave, Part II."

Irene Mincine: "Mission reports my butt."

Cptn Swain: << I am innocent >>

Cptn Swain: ...and...
