Nightfall

Nightfall
Chirakis Kirel, SI-5
Security Lt Jason Bristow

At 1800 hours, station lighting slowly dimmed to evening.  It was time to relax, to put aside the daily grind, to rendezvous at Drankum's bar, or to simply melt into oblivion.  For Starfleet personnel it was a different matter, especially during times of stress.  This was one of those times.

Security Squad Leader Lt Jason Bristow and Captain Chirakis rounded the corridor and entered security’s briefing room.  Bravo-One stood and came to attention.  Bristow strode to the front as he entered.  Captain Chirakis entered behind him but stayed behind to observe.

“As you were,” Bristow ordered casually as he dropped his pack and slipped his PADD onto the podium before scanning the squad to draw their full attention after they settled down.

“So far the station has been fairly quiet,” he began, “but we all know it’s quiet before a storm. And if you’re not ready, that storm won’t just rock the boat, it’ll take you straight to the bottom.”

Bristow paused for a moment to let that sink in, engaged the flat panel station display, then adjusted it to focus on decks 31 through 41 and began a slow pace down the aisle.

“We got a lot of ground to cover,” he continued as he made a sharp turn, “so listen up.”

“It’s late,” he said, crossing his arms to face the screen. “If you think we drew the short straw, you’re wrong.  We are Bravo One.  Top of the line.  Lieutenant Garand chose us for a reason, and that reason has to do with our little friends on deck four-oh.”

Bristow continued to pace as the squad studied the screen and its various sections, then take notes.

“Too many strange things have happened recently in that area,” Bristow continued.  “Command suspects it has something to do with our little friends, even though the little guys probably don’t have a clue.  Yeah, they can be cute.  ‘Course they love playing games. And above all they love chocolate.

“So.”  Bristow stopped pacing and turned to face them.  “If anyone has had or has passed by chocolate recently, change your uniform, shower off, and come back clean.  And I mean clean! Check your equipment for chocolate.  If you have any or if you have had anything that is made with chocolate, get rid of it.  Anything… and I mean anything even remotely smelling like chocolate is to be removed.  Kapisch?”

“Yes, sir!” they replied soberly.

“Good.  Wilson, four-oh will be your responsibility.  Your team will not attempt to approach. Understood?”

“Aye, sir,” she responded leaning forward to study the screen. “Force field? Containment field, sir?”

“Force field Lieutenant.  So far containment has not been needed, but press that button if you need it.”

“Energy bars, sir?”

“None for our little friends.  Okay for your team as long as they don’t even remotely resemble chocolate.”

“Aye, sir,” she finished with a glance at her team to ensure that they understood.

“Sanchez, take your team to three-nine.  Same precautions.

“Alaveratis, take yours to four-one, science.  Announce watch changes to officers and science personnel and give ‘em the low down. Science might be working through the night, so be aware. Stay outside their perimeter so they can work, but be vigilant.

“Franklyn, your team will stand by on call.  Same protocols. Questions?”

After a long pause, a direct, “No, sir,” came in response.

Bristow nodded.  “Very well.  Gear up. Move out. I’ll be walking the passageways and available for any contingency.  Any problem, no matter how slight, report immediately. That is all.”

As they turned to exit, the squad noticed the captain. Shocked? No.  Surprised?  Yes.  Stopping to salute?  Definitely.  Bristow had trained them well.  Maybe a little too well.

“Well done, Lieutenant,” she said as he gathered his things and reset the screen.

“Thank you, ma’am.  Couldn’t ask for a better crew.”  He slung his pack over one shoulder and led her out.  “We have numbers yet, Captain?” he asked, referring to casualties.

“None on Aegis, Lieutenant.  Thirty seven on Missouri.  The ship is under quarantine.”

August 2389 - Stardate 2389.232
The Time is 11:00 (23:00) Local

Commander Coleridge is the Commanding officer in CnC
Captain Chirakis watches the area on Drakkor

Cdr Cayne and LtCdr Tarisa use advanced sensor technology to track the Nie'rrh
The USS Iowa keeps watch under cloak
The USS Missouri stands watch around Aegis
Security guards the station and stands watch

mimipavilion: ::in medical, getting ready::
Jylliene: ::CnC, Ops::
Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Still in medical, aware of what's transpiring... undecided ::
Scott Coleridge: ::stifles a yawn as he glances around the CnC::
Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: Is acutely aware of how is rest level is not ideal ::
Dacia Sandero: ::Sleeping::
Alexis McFarland: ::sleeping:::
Scott Coleridge: Keep weapons ready in case any hostiles make it past our ships.
Jylliene: ::keeping an eye on power for shields and weapons::
Nijil tr'Korjata: Doctor...
mimipavilion: ::hears Nijil and walks over to him:: Yes?
Nijil tr'Korjata: This is me, what is going on?
mimipavilion: Not sure
Nijil tr'Korjata: I am here in an engineering capacity if you need. Ugh
Chirakis: Agreed Commander. ::passing her heavy gear to Lt Morgan::
mimipavilion: Doubt that you'll be of an use in your current state.
Scott Coleridge: ::Cayne:: How far out is the fighting?
Chirakis: ::watching Iowa and Missouri lead the ships to fight if necessary:::
Chirakis: ::to Lt Morgan:: Keep the gear close in case I must leave::::
Cdr Wyatt Cayne: About one AU at the moment.
Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Not exactly a normal measurement.
Jylliene: ::at ops, overheard, shrugs.::
Scott Coleridge: Has Missouri hailed the vessels?
Chirakis: :::watching Iowa and Missouri circle the area::
Nijil tr'Korjata: ~Curses~
Nijil tr'Korjata: Muuhi, not now.
Nijil tr'Korjata: I know, I know I could be some use here, or you could.
Nijil tr'Korjata: Doctor Sandero :: Nijil exclaimed :: What are you reading now, with me?
Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: Watching icons dart across his perimeter display console ::
Dacia Sandero: I am reading two people
Scott Coleridge: ::Jylliene:: Hail Missouri, ask them for a status report. I want to know if they have made contact.
Jylliene: +Missouri+ Aegis to Missouri.
Cptn d'Ka: Cpt d'Ka: ::out with Missouri:: I hear very well, so yes, we have hailed and they have not responded.
Scott Coleridge: +d'Ka+ Do you intend to engage them?
Nijil tr'Korjata: ~I would think so Doctor~ :: Nigil said with a rather cat-sounding inflection :: This should not happen, and for the moment Nijil is being spared the trauma he endured. Could be shock though.
Cdr Wyatt Cayne: I cannot determine how many non-friendlies there are out there. Damned cloaks.
Dacia Sandero: He could be, that would make sense
Dacia Sandero: That would explain a lot of things actually
Cptn d'Ka: +Missouri+ We have not noted any danger coming in.
Cptn d'Ka: +Missouri+ The ships coming forward from other areas seem to be confused. ::looks to Lei'ri and nods:::
Scott Coleridge: ::blinks::
Jylliene: ::is confused now::
Jylliene: ::well, more confused::
Scott Coleridge: If there's no danger, why are we at red alert? ::looks to Chirakis::
Nijil tr'Korjata: Muu, don't stare at Dacia.
Jylliene: ::echoing same look::
Nijil tr'Korjata: ~Calling her by her first name? You told me about her, or at least the real Muuhi~
Chirakis: ::nod to Scott:: We could easily jump on them suddenly, though it does not seem to be looking even close to that.
Jylliene: ::looks between Coleridge and Chirakis::
Dacia Sandero: ::smiles::
Scott Coleridge: Stand down from red alert.
Jylliene: ::stands down::
mimipavilion: ::notices that red alert is no longer needed:: What the...?
Chirakis: Very strange, indeed. :::sending information to Admiral Mulligan::
Scott Coleridge: Alpha shift officers may relinquish their stations to Gamma shift and go off duty.
Scott Coleridge: ::Chirakis:: Can we talk in my office?
Jylliene: ::relinquishes and heads slowly for the lift::
Chirakis: Indeed you can, Commander.  However, I would be very cautious with these ships. I have no idea what they are waiting for, and all we have to do is to rest and they would jump on them.
Chirakis: Therefore, stay here. Be cautious.
Scott Coleridge: ::Chirakis:: That isn't grounds for ordering a red alert.
Jylliene: ::halts by the lift, waiting::
Chirakis: Not at the moment, though I feel uneasy.
Scott Coleridge: I respect your instincts, Captain. But it is late, the crew has been through a lot in these past days. And I have a chief engineer in sickbay whose other personality wants to open a wormhole to the past.
Dacia Sandero: Oh yay, no more Red Alert.
Scott Coleridge: ::sighs, massages his temples:: It's not possible to stay at alert 24/7. We'll burn out. Missouri can be our palisade. If those ships do have hostile intent, and they make a move, we have plenty of time to go to red alert before they reach Aegis.
Nijil tr'Korjata: Well, that's something.
Chirakis: ::thinking::: I will take your place and watch everything.
Scott Coleridge: Captain, you're no more immune to the need to sleep than the rest of us.
Scott Coleridge: We're going to bed. The night watch can do its thing. They'll wake us if there's an emergency, but I think we'll be fine.
mimipavilion: +CnC+ Pavilion to CnC
Scott Coleridge: +Mimi+ Coleridge here.
Chirakis: However, I would not allow.... :::blink::: I can stay here for several days. I have no problem staying here.
mimipavilion: +Scott+ Take it with red alert cancelled I can send all personnel not on duty back to their quarters.
Chirakis: Go if you wish. I will stay.
Scott Coleridge: +Mimi+ Yes, please. I'll want to talk to you in the morning about Commander tr'Korjata and ::glances at Chirakis:: perhaps other things.
mimipavilion: +Scott+ Understood
Chirakis: And I will change red alert to yellow.
Jylliene: Captain, if i may, consider it ensuring you will be ready to be up for several days when the need does arise?
Chirakis: Indeed it is.
mimipavilion: ::Dacia and to all other personal not on duty:: To all not assigned to Gamma Shift duty, you're dismissed and try to get some sleep.
Dacia Sandero: Yes sleep
mimipavilion: ::Nijil/Muuhi:: You both need sleep.
Dacia Sandero: sleep sleep
Chirakis: ::d'Ka+:: (( You will allow Jon and Reyes to stay or leave, whichever you believe is best))
Scott Coleridge: ::looks like he's about to say something else but thinks better of it::
Jylliene: ::turns and enters the lift::
Scott Coleridge: ::heads for the TL::
Nijil tr'Korjata: Yes, from both of us.
Cptn d'Ka: ::Chirakis:: ((I agree))
Jylliene: ::holds the lift for Coleridge::
Scott Coleridge: ::enters the TL and waits for the doors to close before turning to Jylliene:: I need an opinion from you.
Jylliene: That's why I held the lift. Go ahead.
Chirakis: :::stands by the door as some leave and some stay::::
Jylliene: (ask, I mean)
Scott Coleridge: ::to Jylliene:: How...confident are you in Captain Chirakis's judgement at the moment?
Nijil tr'Korjata: :: thinks :: tea...
mimipavilion: ::finalizes some things::
Jylliene: Marginally? I'm afraid of the possibility of a friendly or neutral being seen as an enemy by someone who has primed everyone to snap.
Nijil tr'Korjata: ~ Could use that beach right now ~
Scott Coleridge: I was afraid you'd say that. But I'm forced to agree.
Nijil tr'Korjata: It's gone though, all of it.
Cptn d'Ka: ::aboard Missouri:: ::turns::: Lei'ri, watch closely. I will talk to Kelley.
Jylliene: I say marginally because our ships have control of what they do out there.
Nijil tr'Korjata: No fish..
Jylliene: They can temper her somewhat. And I'm hoping if things really were to go sideways, d'Ka would have warning.
Nijil tr'Korjata: Doctor?
Jylliene: But I'm still concerned. Very.
Scott Coleridge: Good points. My main concern is that there seems to be a lot of ... confusion.
Jylliene: ::nods::
mimipavilion: ::not far, but hears Nijil:: Yes
Scott Coleridge: I'll talk to Mimi in the morning.
Jylliene: Thank you.
Jylliene: ::exhales::

Chirakis: Very good work tonight. Next week I'm going to change things around so it makes sense.
Chirakis: Any ideas about that?
Scott Coleridge: Well Scott's priorities are keeping the station functioning and figuring out what to do with Nijil.
Chirakis: Now.. think of these things.....
Jylliene: Oddly, same priorities as Jyl.
mimipavilion: Same with Mimi
Chirakis: It is possible that the ships that came to Aegis seemed to be strange.
Chirakis: I'm going to be working on several things this week. Scott, Nijil, and possibly others will talk and make decisions.
Chirakis: =/\= Crew dismissed. Be well. Be Safe. Don't forget your towel=/\=

Jylliene: Not that I'm aware of, no. Perhaps checking on someone else? Nijil is still there, after all, and we've had the personnel come in from the Missouri and Iowa.
Chirakis: ::her padd hanging off her belt::::
Scott Coleridge: :: Mimi:: Two things. First, how is Nijil? Do you have any ideas regarding removing this secondary personality?
Chirakis: Hm.....
Nijil tr'Korjata: No. :: he said out loud :: I'm not sure they would allow that unless we are in a dire situation.
Chirakis: Call Cdr Cayne to CnC for me. I will hunt for.... :::listens quietly then nods::: Forget the hunt. I've found him.
Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: squints :: I am glued to my seat.

Nijil tr'Korjata: ~Really? After all this time?~

Scott Coleridge: Which brings me to my second inquiry...
Nijil tr'Korjata: There were spare computational times I could use.
mimipavilion: ::nods::
Scott Coleridge: When was the last time you gave Captain Chirakis an eval?
mimipavilion: ::pulls up her file:: Looks like a month ago
mimipavilion: Why?
Chirakis: Lt Garand, take Cdr Cayne's position.
Scott Coleridge: She was responsible for the snap red alert two days ago. In retrospect, I'm not sure the situation warranted that. She then insisted on staying up all night to keep an eye on the situation. I'm worried about her. And I'm concerned that some of these actions will have a negative impact on the crew.
mimipavilion: ::nods and thinks for a moment:: You remember the meeting we had the Captain before disembarked to look for Nijil
Nijil tr'Korjata: I need to walk around. :: hops off the bed ::
Scott Coleridge: ::Mimi:: Yes.
mimipavilion: After the meeting, I stayed behind to talk to her and I suggested she get some sleep. She about chewed my head off for even recommending it to her.
Chirakis: ::turns away from others to listen, then presses the button on her hip:: Understood.
Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Looks for someone to treat :: ~I'm anxious~ :: sighs :: no kidding.
Scott Coleridge: Hmm
Jylliene: ::getting a weird feeling about the PADD::
Scott Coleridge: ((Chirakis is playing CnC-Tetris))
Chirakis: (On occasion she uses the PADD on her hip)
Chirakis: (LOL)
Nijil tr'Korjata: (Flings it like it's a revolver... pew pew )
Scott Coleridge: ::Mimi:: Mainly I'm concerned about how days at yellow alert exhausts the crew, coupled with erratic decisions from our commanding officer.
Scott Coleridge: I don't think we're at a point where we need to discuss anything...drastic. But I wanted to let you know what I've observed in my capacity as XO.
mimipavilion: Agreed. Both of us have the ability to relieve her of duty.
Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: Working off a smaller screen ::
Scott Coleridge: I just hope it doesn't reach that point.
mimipavilion: ::nods::
Scott Coleridge: I wonder if there's anything we can do to... encourage the captain to seek some help or take more of a break.
Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Looks over anyone in medical, walking around the various beds ::
mimipavilion: I could contact Captain d'Ka.
mimipavilion: ::a nurse comes to her office:: Excuse me ma'am.
Chirakis: ::walking around, listening to Scott and Mimi though she will say nothing about it. She knows through her bond mate, Captain d'Ka, though she will not say this to anyone:::
mimipavilion: Yes nurse.
Nijil tr'Korjata: I can't explain everything here... :: continues ::
mimipavilion: Nurse> Cmdr. tr'Korjata is up walking around examining patients and mumbling to himself.
mimipavilion: ::looks at Scott:: Great.
Chirakis: ::tries not to chuckle but she knows d'Ka will speak to her if that is what she wants::
Scott Coleridge: I'll help you with this.
Scott Coleridge: ::gets up to leave Mimi's office with her::
Nijil tr'Korjata: Starfleet developing a new color-coding again?
Nijil tr'Korjata: It's as bad as uniforms.
mimipavilion: Thanks ::gets up and follows the nurse to where Nijil is::
Chirakis: ::walking around CnC, checking the area and personnel, answering questions, ordinary talking, etc::::
Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Holds up his hand :: I am fine.
mimipavilion: ::stops at where Nijil is at:: Cmdr. tr'Korjata get back to bed immediately.
Chirakis: ( I am Groot )
Nijil tr'Korjata: I need to walk around Doctor. I went to a window of the station the other night and was fine.
Nijil tr'Korjata: May I ask what you are waiting for in regards to be staying in bed?
Nijil tr'Korjata: My sleep cycle is wreaked anyhow.
Scott Coleridge: ::Mimi:: Why don't I take Nijil for a short walk around the section and back?
mimipavilion: ::Scott:: Thank you ::furious::
Nijil tr'Korjata: :: to Coleridge in an accent :: ~Doctors do make the worst patients.
Nijil tr'Korjata: Hmm. Thank you Commander.
Scott Coleridge: ::gestures:: Come on, Nijil. I hear they painted the bulkhead dividers a different shade of metallic grey a couple of days ago.
mimipavilion: ::goes back to her office::
Nijil tr'Korjata: Commander, do you wish to speak to me...or her?
Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: Working in a chair not his ::
Chirakis: And....

Chirakis: == Pause Sim ==
Chirakis: == Pause Sim ==

mimipavilion: ::freeze frame::
Nijil tr'Korjata: paused
Chirakis: Strange things are occurring. I will have to think about it.
I had a 3 day move to another area and that did not work....so I'm going to follow all of you instead of me doing something. Sound good?
Nijil tr'Korjata: Sure
Chirakis: good
Nijil tr'Korjata: Me, just the same old place
Chirakis: Ideas? Thoughts? Anything else?
Chirakis: Very well...
Chirakis: Crew dismissed.
Nijil tr'Korjata: I have a few ideas brewing
Chirakis: Good
Nijil tr'Korjata: I will chat will you later
mimipavilion: night all see ya next week
Chirakis:  =/\= Crew dismissed. Be well. Be Safe. Don't forget your towel.

Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Looks for someone to treat :: ~I'm anxious~ :: sighs :: no kidding.
Scott Coleridge: I just hope it doesn't reach that point.
mimipavilion: ::nods::
Nijil tr'Korjata: I can't explain everything here... :: continues ::
mimipavilion: Nurse> Cmdr. tr'Korjata is up walking around examining patients and mumbling to himself.
mimipavilion: ::looks at Scott:: Great.
Nijil tr'Korjata: It's as bad as uniforms.
mimipavilion: Thanks ::gets up and follows the nurse to where Nijil is at::
Chirakis: ::walking around CnC, checking the area and personnel, answering questions, ordinary talking, etc.::::
Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Holds up his hand :: I am fine.
mimipavilion: ::stops at where Nijil is at:: Cmdr. tr'Korjata get back to bed immediately.
Chirakis: ( I am Groot )
Nijil tr'Korjata: I need to walk around Doctor. I went to a window of the station the other night and was fine.
Nijil tr'Korjata: May I ask what you are waiting for in regards to be staying in bed?
Nijil tr'Korjata: My sleep cycle is wreaked anyhow.
Scott Coleridge: ::Mimi:: Why don't I take Nijil for a short walk around the section and back?
mimipavilion: ::Scott:: Thank you ::furious::

Chirakis: == Pause Sim ==
Chirakis: == Pause Sim ==

mimipavilion: ::freeze frame::
Nijil tr'Korjata: paused
Chirakis: Strange things are occurring. I will have to think about it.
I had a 3 day move to another area and that did not work....so I'm going to follow all of you instead of me doing something. Sound good?
Nijil tr'Korjata: Sure
Chirakis: good
Nijil tr'Korjata: Me, just the same old place
Chirakis: Ideas? Thoughts? Anything else?
Chirakis: Very well...
Chirakis: Crew dismissed.
Nijil tr'Korjata: I have a few ideas brewing
