USS Excalibur Sim Log - 08.11.19

MISSION BRIEF: Excalibur has received a respite in the form the historic Enterprise-C, though that has provided a few complications of its own. As we pick up, it has a been several hours since the E-C crew began assisting in repairs, medical relief, and a joint science team had started work on getting us home in one piece.

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::Posing as a Vulcan again, to his considerable annoyance, he was working with one of the Enterprise-C crew members on an idea he had about the planet's rather large chronimetric instability.::

Irene Mincine: :: Blue Irene is a virtual prisoner in her isolation room so that the Enterprise-C crew can't see her. She's going pretty stir crazy by this point. Carillon has been manning the helm for 16 hours straight and is looking quite exhausted. ::

Cptn Swain: ::In the labs as well, sleeves rolled up. Though he was secretly enjoying himself, he wished it could have been under better circumstances.::

William Chocox: ::is working on some system to keep the ship up and running::

Hakran K'hal: :: working with the Andorian, as well as going roundabout the pair-offs to see how the ideas are coming along ::

Maryse Dubois: ::Goes into the iso room with a couple of books and a bottle of water.:: I brought you a couple books to help pass some time.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Miranda had gotten the relief supplies sorted and crews were working to manually deliver them to various areas of the ship. Engineering had crates stacked three high in some places as their supplies had been dumped wherever there had been room. Miranda squeezed through one stack and the next in her quest to find the box that held power converters.:: Twins above, this stuff is ancient. ::She grumbled.::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> In engineering, one of the E-C members is working on an ODN relay, but apparently isn't familiar with the tool and accidentally trips a bunch of alarms, indicating that entire engineering section has been decompressed and the inertial dampers turned off, which big if true.

Rhan K'hal: :: on the bridge in the big chair, scowls down at Carillon :: How long have you... :: interrupted by alarms ::

Rhan K'hal: What in sweet hell is going on?

William Chocox: ::looks around:: Aw, damnit. ::walks over:: Here, you just need to turn it a quarter turn back this way. ::shows the crew member::

Irene Mincine: Blue> "Real books? Where'd you get these?" :: She looks them over, then gladly takes the water bottle.. ::

Rhan K'hal: Ens Obee> Apparently engineering has been decompressed and the inertial dampening system is offline.

Maryse Dubois: I keep a few around.

Irene Mincine: Carillon> :: Throwing her exhaustion aside, she springs into action at her console with the alarms. :: "I'm not reading any movement, though."

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Jerks at the alarm and cracks her head on the lid of one of the crates as she straightened too quickly. Swearing under her breath and holding her head, she squeezed her way through to the main bank of engineering consoles and slapped her hand down on the display to cut off the blaring sounds.::

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::trying to temper his excitement:: Mister K'hal, Thalov? Captain?

Rhan K'hal: :: huffs out a sigh :: Check on that, will you? I imagine we'd have notice a massive decompression.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Chocox!

William Chocox: Aye sir?!

Hakran K'hal: :: swivels his ear, then the rest of him and heads over to Issaha :: Yes?

Rhan K'hal: Ens Obee> :: checks, via the security feed, and notes that Engineers are moving around and breathing quite well, tyvm ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: I said that no relief engineers were to operate without a supervising Excalibur engineer present. Make sure everyone is complying! We can't afford stupid mistakes.

Cptn Swain: Issaha> I think we have something. ::Trying extremely hard not to bounce::

Rhan K'hal: Ens Obee> I'd call that a false alarm, sir.

William Chocox: I'll double check it sir!

Cptn Swain: Relen> ::This was the strangest Vulcan he'd ever met, but he seemed on the up and up::

Rhan K'hal: :: sigh ::

Cptn Swain: ::Swivels::

Irene Mincine: Blue> "Huh. You've got interesting tastes, Doc... wouldn't expect a woman of science to have this kind of antique around."

Rhan K'hal: As I was starting to say, Carillon, how long have you been riding the pony today?

Cptn Swain: ACTION> Inexplicably, we paid for the rights for some reason, so everyone on the bridge thinks they hear Genuwine's Pony.

Maryse Dubois: ::Shrugs.:: It doesn't hurt to have a few collections. :;Smiles.::

Rhan K'hal: (( ... ))

Cptn Swain: (( I am in a good mood, can you tell? ))

Irene Mincine: Carillon> "I'm fine, sir." :: She says, through a yawn. :: "I've done 36-hour days on the flight deck." :: She turns around, her real eye red and bloodshot, her implant eye still just as white and gold as ever. She looks up at the ceiling when the music kicks in. :: "I think our computer's having problems again?"

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: (( I was playing it in my head already. ::snicker:: ))

Cptn Swain: Thalov> ::twitches his antennae in the general direction of the weirdo Vulcan::

Hakran K'hal: :: steps over to look over Issaha's shoulder :: You find anything useful, Mr. :: crap, what was his fake name again? just lets it trail off on Mister like an extremely old fashioned officer ::

Irene Mincine: Blue> :: Nods, setting the book aside for now. :: "I'll take a look at 'em. How's the Enterprise medical crew? Dark Ages medicine come to life?"

Rhan K'hal: :: frowns :: Call in some relief. I don't care if it's a parrot, so long as it can keep its feet on "Park."

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::has also forgotten his fake name:, though his player thinks it was his fourth name but isn't going to look it up rn:: We completed the transphasic scans, and we have a working theory on how we might be able to return us and possibly fix the planet as well.,

Hakran K'hal: Well, we're all ea... :: remembers the Andorian :: sensory organs, share.

William Chocox: ::has finished double checking on all the pairs:: Alright, how did you wind up alone hm? ::addressing the engineer that caused the alarm::

Maryse Dubois: ::Grins.:: It's not too far off from our own, but they are only allowed to do minor injuries. Just things to help make sickbay clear up a bit.

Maryse Dubois: And they seem to be adjusting since Indaura "dumbed down" all of the displays.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> He said he had to get supplies, and I didn't want to wait. ::Surly about it to Chocox.::

Irene Mincine: :: Carillon shook her head. :: "You need an experienced pilot here, sir, not a raw recruit who barely knows where the go button is. There's a reason they dragged me up from the flight deck with half the crew laid up." :: She turned back to her console. :: "I've got half a tube of energy pills left."

Cptn Swain: Relan> Well, it's entirely theoretical. But, we could use the Enterprise's deflector dish to create an inverse tachyon beam ... ::pauses:: y'all know what those are right?

Cptn Swain: ::Nearly laughs at the idea::

Irene Mincine: Blue> "That's right, they didn't have LCARS back then..." :: She sipped the water bottle. :: "You really thought of everything, didn't you?"

Cptn Swain: Thalov> :gives Relan a Look:::

William Chocox: No need to get surly, if we don't know how something happened we can't prevent it from happening in the future. The reason you need to have an engineer from our crew with you is because sometimes stuff like that alarm happens. Or you accidentally blow up half the ship, but don't tell anyone I told you that.

Rhan K'hal: Depending on what solution they come up with to get us home, we may need a very sharp, experienced pilot to execute the maneuver. We don't need the best to babysit a starship that can't even move at the moment anyway. Go, rest, and be ready to do something very likely approaching idiotic and suicidal later after Science has had their go.

Cptn Swain: Relan> Right, anyway... we think that if we pointed the inverse tachyon beam at the planet we could open a temporal fissure. Excalibur could move into it and create a static warp shell collapsing the fissure and sending themselves into the future.

Maryse Dubois: Actually that was her idea. It's nice when you are surrounded by the right people.

Indaura Ryssan: :: Working in medical ::

Hakran K'hal: :: ponders that a moment ::

Cptn Swain: Issaha> The challenge would be to modulate the tachyon beam to the correct frequency to return us to the proper time, and not, for example, next Tuesday. Or last Tuesday.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> So I'm just supposed to sit around and do nothing? ::He threw down the tool he'd been using.:: If that's the case, I'll just report back to my own ship and tell them you don't need us here.

Hakran K'hal: What are the risks to the Enterprise?

Indaura Ryssan: :: Talking to the other doctors and techs, being careful to note when particular things were newly developed ::L

Irene Mincine: :: Carillon realized further arguing was pointless and that he was right. :: Carillon> "All right. I guess you have a point there. These pills are giving me a killer headache anyway." :: She pushes back her chair and stands up, promptly grabbing her head. ::

William Chocox: No, that's not what I'm saying. You just need to wait for the other engineer to get back. How long has he been gone anyway?

Cptn Swain: Thalov> There would be a chance that we could be caught in the temporal backwash and possibly pulled in alongside.

Cptn Swain: Thalov> ::his antennae were working overtime::

Rhan K'hal: You'll learn after a while I'm rarely wrong.

Irene Mincine: Irene> "Yeah, just like in the science department."

Hakran K'hal: :: looks to Swain ::

Rhan K'hal: And take something to counteract the headache.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> I don't know. Seems like a long time. How do you tell time on this blasted ship? ::He threw up his hands and replaced the panel he'd been working on.:: Whatever. What do you want me to do next?

Irene Mincine: :: Carillon returns Rhan's line with a grin. :: "And you'll learn that I'm never wrong." :: She takes a few steps and stumbles. She seems confused. :: "Wait, where was I...?"

William Chocox: Usually I just ask the computer what time it is.

Cptn Swain: It's better than anything we've came up with so far, though a bit theoretical. How much work would be required to modify the Enterprise's deflector dish to emit a Tachyon pulse?

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.:: The good news is, you'll be able to rejoin them soon enough. At least for light duty, and when the Enterprise crew is gone, of course.

Cptn Swain: Thalov> ::a little quicker than you'd expect:: Three hours, thirty-seven minutes. Depending on the exact modulation.

Cptn Swain: Well. ::does one of those looks:: then

Indaura Ryssan: :: Continues :: And we can scan to a resolution of...wait. Good enough.

Rhan K'hal: :: frowns, looks around :: You, vaguely anemic-looking goldshirt with the phaser and expression like you're half conscious. Take the Lt. to sickbay.

Irene Mincine: Blue> :: Looked very relieved. :: "Finally! I'm so ready to get out of here and back to my job."

William Chocox: But let's go over here.

William Chocox: ::walks with the Engineer::

Cptn Swain: Thalov> The real question, is your ship capable of creating a sufficient warp shell to close the fissure behind you.

Hakran K'hal: The ship: probably not, by itself. With our complement of other ships, the chances are considerably better, if we can coordinate them properly.

Cptn Swain: Hakran... that's a good question.

Maryse Dubois: I figured you would like that. Once the med team is clear of sickbay, we should at least be able to get you back to your quarters.

Irene Mincine: :: Carillon waves off the goldshirt. :: "I'm fine, I'm fine, I don't need my hand held. I just need a few seconds here." :: She steps into the turbolift, walking slowly and looking down at the floor. ::

William Chocox: Life support is always coming down around my ears. How long have you been an Engineer?

Irene Mincine: Blue> :: Thinks for a minute. :: "Can't you transport me there directly?"

Rhan K'hal: A bridge full of aggressively stubborn people. Won't that be fun.

Maryse Dubois: ::Raised eyebrow.:: With the way things are working right now?

Cptn Swain: (( I am relatively certain we don't have transporters that are working lol ))

Indaura Ryssan: Eng Med person> What's in there?

Irene Mincine: "...good point."

Irene Mincine: ::Blue>::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> ::His ancient kit slung over his shoulder, he accompanied Chocox to the next system.:: Three years now. You?

Indaura Ryssan: Something I can't speak of.. now over here...

Cptn Swain: Issaha> Then there is the issue of getting the modulation right, though we might be able to modulate that on the fly.

Hakran K'hal: Assuming we can manage that with our one nacelle and squadron, I would also say we're likely going to have to cram all non-essentials into the central shelter areas to avoid any medical issues with radiation, chroniton or otherwise.

Cptn Swain: Relan> ::Looks over at the Vulcan saying "on the fly" and blinks::

William Chocox: About the same actually, though I was always taking machinery apart when I was a kid.

Irene Mincine: :: The sickbay door opens. Carillon takes two steps inside. :: "...busy place. Maybe I'll come back later."

Cptn Swain: ::Nods::: Very well. Thalov, can you have the enterprise begin making the modulations to your array. Harkan, head down to engineering and see what they think. Have Miranda meet me in my ready room, I want to run this by her first, but no harm in doing the leg work. Everyone else can work on finding the right frequency. ::Glances over:: I'd rather not do it, on the fly, as you say.

William Chocox: And sorry about my tone earlier, I've had just about the worst week possible.

Hakran K'hal: :: nods at Issaha :: It's hardly going to be a set-it-and-forget-it... enterprise. :: Swain :: Aye, sir.

Hakran K'hal: :: rises and exits ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> Yea, I can see that. This place is a wreck. I'm surprised it is still flying.

Hakran K'hal: :: commandeers a lift, orders it to Main Engineering while his mind whirls at warp thinking of all the issues with this plan ::

Cptn Swain: (( Why do I always want to call him Harkan ))

Cptn Swain: Thalov> ::nods and heads out towards the shuttles::

Hakran K'hal: :: enters ME, notes a modern goldshirt near the door :: Hawthorne?

Cptn Swain: ::Gives Issaha a long look, wondering if he can be left in charge, but decides there are worse things that could happen. Famous last words, of course. Heads out towards the lifts and the bridge::

William Chocox: We've come to find that our Engineering crew works best when everything is going wrong. This was the hardest thing we've had in my time here though.

Hakran K'hal: :: gets directed, heads over to her :: Commander Hawthorne.

Maryse Dubois: Nurse> ::Stops Carillon.:: No no... This way please.

Irene Mincine: :: Carillon nods and follows the nurse. Blue Irene lays down on the biobed. :: Blue> "Mind if I take a nap?"

Rhan K'hal: Ken, I don't suppose we have any super-intelligent yet annoying teenagers to fly the ship for a while? No? Well transfer helm to your station, then leave it alone.

Rhan K'hal: Ens Obee> Aye, sir.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Still digging through crates for those ancient converters, Miranda glanced up at her name, careful of the lid this time. She quirked a brow at the science-y K'hal.:: Here. You'll have to squeeze through.

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.:: Go ahead. Have a nice rest. ::Gets up and heads for the exit. Making sure it was clear, she opened the door ans slid out before closing again.::

Maryse Dubois: Nurse> ::Points to empty bio bed.:: Sit there please.

Cptn Swain: D'A> ::having just arrived on the bridge:: I can keep us parked if you want.

Cptn Swain: D'A> Will get me out of the hanger bay for a bit. My god that place is a mess.

Irene Mincine: Carillon> "Uh-huh." :: She parks herself on the biobed, holding her head. ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> I'd hope so, though they won't tell us everything that happened to you. Don't suppose you'd like to fill in the blanks?

Rhan K'hal: By all means. :: smiles ::

Hakran K'hal: I wouldn't be much of a Cait if I couldn't squeeze. :: does so :: We've come up with an idea to kill two chronitons with one tachyon. But we need to generate a strong warp shell to do it. How much can the ship give, and can the remaining working craft supplement, and can we control it all?

Cptn Swain: D'A> ::smirks and makes her way over. She looked like she'd been through a war::

Maryse Dubois: Nurse> ::Finds Indaura.:: Doctor, there is a new patient in bed 5.

Irene Mincine: :: Carillon had left the helm area a total mess, like everything she touches. There was a pile of snack wrappers and a half-empty tube of energy pills sitting on the touch surface. ::

Rhan K'hal: Ens Obee> :: transfers control back to the helm ::

William Chocox: Unfortunately if I told you I'd be breaking about 3 Federation Laws and 15 Starfleet Regulations and I think my XO might kill me as well.

Cptn Swain: D'a> I see she left the helm like she leaves her pit. Captain will be thrilled if she continues that.

Rhan K'hal: Well, she did pull a double, so it's twice as bad as normal. Maybe we can request a rubbish bin to be attached to the new console when we get back home.

Cptn Swain: ::Misses that whole conversation as he slips into the ready room::

Rhan K'hal: Assuming she stays on. Seems like Personnel can't keep us stocked in drivers very long.

Irene Mincine: :: Carillon's ears burn. Then she horks into a bedpan provided by a nurse down in sickbay. ::

Cptn Swain: D;A> What happened to that Marine fellow anyway? I hope the ceiling tiles didn't kill him.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She inhaled sharply and moved to the console again.:: IF we can get the hull shored up with proper materials, which we now have, we wouldn't have to worry about the bulkheads collapsing. She could probably take at least eighty to ninety percent of her normal stress factors if we get the repairs done properly this time.

Rhan K'hal: I think the Major decided it was best to keep him with the 153rd from now on.

Cptn Swain: D'A> ::Nods::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: We can draw additional power from the working craft on board to help with the power strain, which will also act as a buffer. It might blow their power nodules by the time it is over as we'd be using them as temporary breakers.

Rhan K'hal: Well, considering we'll be entering the temporal fissure at the planet, "normal" stress factors are probably going to be out the airlock.

Rhan K'hal: Which, before your eyes start firing, the Captain does want to see you and discuss it with you, but he wanted the initial legwork to get started.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> ::Mutters.:: Yea, I figured. The tech here is amazing, though. ::When he thought Will wasn't looking, he slipped an Excalibur tricorder into his bag.::

William Chocox: I'm going to need that back.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> What? ::innocent look::

William Chocox: Don't play dumb with me. I'm better at it.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> Sorry?

William Chocox: Do I need to come out and say it or reach in your bag, or are you going to give it up willingly?

Indaura Ryssan: :: Walking with the pack ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> ::Opens his bag.:: Oh! I thought that was mine..

Hakran K'hal: :: nods :: I'll get with Will, see what kind of numbers I can give the science team. We have to be able to do this without risking the Enterprise.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Enterprise engineer> ::Passes the tricorder back.::

William Chocox: Easy enough mistake to make. ::takes it back::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Her jaw flexed, but she didn't immediately discount the idea. So that was good.:: We'll do what we can. That's about all we can do. As you can see, we have plenty of supplies from the Enterprise, but it is going to take time to get all the necessary repairs done.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Our main concern right now is the nacelle. Without it operational, you aren't getting any kind of warp field.

Hakran K'hal: Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Okay. I'll let you get up to the Captain, he's in his ready room.

Irene Mincine: :: Carillon falls over onto her side and passes out as the doctor arrives, just in time for the end of the episode. The (empty) bedpan she was holding clatters to the floor. ::

Rhan K'hal: (( okay Irene and her bevy of characters, I know Sickbay is nice and all but you don't need to move in))
