USS Excalibur Sim Log - 03.24.19

MISSION BRIEF: Excalibur is still in orbit of Sarras where repairs to key systems continue. Science has uncovered an unusual mineral that may be of some assistance in that. The planet is lush, verdant and providing people a much needed respite. So far, we remain alone.

Hakran K'hal: :: walks into Irene's conclave :: Brought you a present.

Maryse Dubois: ::In Sickbay, looking over a data scan.::

Indaura Ryssan: :: On the planet surface :L:L

Hakran K'hal: :: plops down a padd with all the data on the stone creatures, as well as a sealed container with a sample of them and their ore dindin ::

Irene Mincine: "Oh?" :: Irene's hunched over a table in her sickbay room. A centrifuge full of test tubes is spinning away. ::

William Chocox: ::is suiting up for a space walk with Commander Hawthorne::

Hunter Matheson: ::checking his gear::

Hakran K'hal: :: looks around :: They let you have more stuff.

Rhan K'hal: @ :: sitting with his feet up on a crate inside the now completed HQ shelter, which is one tiny room with a bunch of portable equipment, but still ::

Cptn Swain: @::At the base camp, drinking tea.::

Irene Mincine: "It's a full genetics lab now." :: The room is full of fancy high-tech equipment. It wouldn't look out of place in the science labs. :: "Since we need to identify what the hell is up with my DNA..." :: She looks over the padd. :: "What's this? Something you found on the planet?"

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::There was a soft hiss as her helmet engaged and Miranda looked down to check the status of her suit. With all readings green, she moved to the control panel and closed the bulkhead door.:: Ready, Chocox?

William Chocox: ::double checks his own suit status:: Yes ma'am.

Hakran K'hal: Mmhmm. Rock munchers. They ah... defecate a very hard mineral we're working on trying to use as a repair material. We still need to figure out the best way to seed the little fellows to do that though, and you're our most out-of-the-box thinking biologist.

Indaura Ryssan: @ Is the medical facility up to your standards? :: to Rhan ::

Hunter Matheson: @ :::stows it and wanders toward the Cassiopeia to check its status and adjust a few things::

Rhan K'hal: @ If you can triage, yes. I'm not expecting Starfleet Medical v2.

Maryse Dubois: ::Walking behind Hakran.:: Lovely... ::Looking to Irene, holding a PADD.:: I found something.

Hakran K'hal: :: inclines head to Maryse :: We're going to need to knock out a wall in here at this rate, Doctor.

Maryse Dubois: ::Shrugs.:: I've been wanting to redecorate anyways.

Irene Mincine: "Oh, you want me to figure out how to make them poop starship hull?" :: Irene hrmed when Maryse came in as well. :: "Oh? I'm only one biologist, you all know."

Hunter Matheson: @ ::checking the exterior for damage:::

Cptn Swain: @ ::Part of him wondered if this what Kyraneth had looked like when it was first settled. Perhaps he could find a nice wooded area to build home in.::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Alright. Hold tight. +Bridge+ Hawthorne to bridge. Decompressing junction three for EVA.

Hakran K'hal: :: smiles :: We know how they poop the mineral, we just need to figure out how to get them to do it evenly and not in large, Semek-buttock-impaling chunks.

Maryse Dubois: Well I at least know what changed your DNA, or at least what started it.

William Chocox: ::holds on tight::

Hakran K'hal: :: ears perk up :: I'd be interested in hearing that, Doctor, if it's not limited by physician-patient confidentiality.

Irene Mincine: "I'll see what I can do, lieutenant." :: Irene was very interested in what Maryse had to say now. :: "Well, go on!"

Hunter Matheson: @ ::only some scoring - not bad - nothing out of the ordinary:::

Rhan K'hal: @ But from what I can tell, Doc, you've done the best you can with the materials and help available. At least once the Marines came down they proved better at installing level floors.

Maryse Dubois: It was nanites. A small batch for one specific job I wager. I found remains when I took a tissue sample. Seems they had one job, and self destructed after.

Cptn Swain: @ ::Of course that was something he wasn't going to say openly. The crew needed to see a projection of confidence that they could get back to their proper timeline. But he wasn't sure. The particular star they were orbiting had a complicated gravity field. It wouldn't be a problem unless you were trying to make extremely precise calculations for a slingshot maneuver to hurl you 100 years into the future, and that you were doing so with a busted ship and computer. If you were, well that was a problem then. He took another drink of tea.::

Maryse Dubois: Why someone would do that, I still don't know.

William Chocox: I love this part of my duties.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She typed in her command and the chamber slowly decompressed, leaving them weightless. The outer door slid open, leaving nothing between them and the view of the planet below. Miranda pushed off the wall and flew gracefully to the portal, grabbed the bar and used the momentum to swing herself about. A touch engaged her mag boots, sticking her upright to the hull.:: Yea... I think this makes up for all the squeezing into small spaces.

Hakran K'hal: #Semek> :: his buttocks whole, tyvm, is in eva gear in the land of shooting mineral poo taking samples and recording data for everyone and their brother - literally in this case as both K'hals had expressed interest ::

Maryse Dubois: But...I'm in the process of theorizing a way to try and correct it.

Irene Mincine: "What?" :: That's certainly not what she expected to hear. :: "How did you figure that out if they self-destructed? And who would do that to me!"

Indaura Ryssan: @ :: Checking more supplies ::

Hakran K'hal: :: ears twist in confusion , though Irene's outburst pre-empted his own nearly identical exclamation and questions ::

Maryse Dubois: I've seen nanite tampering before. In person, and in medical files. I've just never seen it to this extreme.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::mental calculations on how long the shuttle will last without major repairs and he figures that with the proper management it could last a while... but what's a while?::::

William Chocox: ::touches down next to her on the hull:: Few people get a view like this.

Maryse Dubois: And I have no idea who would do this. I can't see that picture clearly. Doesn't really make much sense.

Irene Mincine: "I want to know who's responsible so I can rip their head off!" :: Irene tried to calm herself down, without much success. She tapped her com badge. :: "Irene to Issaha. Come to my sickbay room."

Maryse Dubois: ::Hands the PADD to Hakran.:: My idea is to use our own nanites to fix the damage.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::enters to check interior:::

Maryse Dubois: I'll need our best programmer for this job.

Cptn Swain: Issaha> +Irene+ I am in the middle of something, what's up.

Hakran K'hal: Hmm. :: looks it over :: You'll want Rhan, then.

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She tethered her repair kit to her suit, leaving it floating behind her as she turned. Her eyes slid past the brilliance of the planet's surface to the blackness of space and the multitude of stars between them and this era's version of Earth.:: You ever get spacesick, Chocox?

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::in the science lab, playing with a ball -- but he wasn't going to tell her that. She sounded mad.::

Maryse Dubois: ((lol))

Maryse Dubois: ((Is it one of Hakran's?))

William Chocox: I try not to. It has happened a couple times though.

Irene Mincine: +Issaha+ "Nanites! That's what's up. Someone shot me up with nanites, that's what caused this." :: Irene scowled... which could be heard over the com system.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Beginning her walk toward the damaged nacelle, she took another glance at the planet.::

William Chocox: ::follows her::

Hunter Matheson: @ :::checking the power source, mentally calculating its life:::

Hakran K'hal: I suppose it's time to swap Caits. I'll have him up here asap.

Hakran K'hal: :: Irene :: Concentrate on your work, Irene. You can't solve a mystery without clues, so you might as well keep yourself busy.

Cptn Swain: +Irene+ Ah. Well, as unethical as that sounds I am not sure that particularly helps us. ::continues tossing the ball while the computer slowly churned in the background.:: You know, my commanding officer on my first ship had a run in with some nanites once. They gave her a laser eye.

Hakran K'hal: :: gives the irate biologist a pat on the shoulder and the Doctor a nod before exiting stage right ::

Maryse Dubois: Bring me back a souvenir...just not a poop rock...

Cptn Swain: Issaha> +Irene+ Or was it the nanites that fixed the laser eye and gave her her hand back. ::Tossing the ball:; It must have been that.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::emergency kits, suits, the whole nine yards:::

Hakran K'hal: :: calls his brother, explains the basics ::

Rhan K'hal: +Hunter+ Rhan to Matheson, I need a lift.

Cptn Swain: Issaha> +Irene+ They charged a mint for that. I suppose your nanites did cause you to unstick from time.

Irene Mincine: +Issaha+ "I'd prefer a laser eye to whatever's going on with me!" :: Hak's words weren't able to penetrate her current emotional state. :: +Issaha+ "Dr. Dubois has an idea of fixing it at least."

Hakran K'hal: :: heads to the shuttle bay to wait ::

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::tossing the ball:: +Irene+ Anyway, as fascinating as this all sounds I am not sure what I can do for you.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::As they reached one of the damaged sections of the hull, she pulled out her tricorder to scan.:: Looks like we've got damage to the structural components, not just the exterior. That's going to take some work.

Hunter Matheson: @ +Rhan+ Yes, sir. Shuttle is ready. Your position?

Rhan K'hal: @ :: exits the HQ shelter and meanders over to Swain's little outdoor retreat :: Captain, sorry to bother you but I'm needed shipside. You want me to toss the command ball down here to Augustin?

Cptn Swain: @::Finishing his tea:: I should be able to handle things for a bit.

Irene Mincine: +Issaha+ "You telling me that your expertise doesn't extend to nanotechnology?" :: An alarm went off somewhere in the room showing that her blood pressure was well above normal. :: "Doctor, I didn't know yours did, either."

William Chocox: ::crouches down:: Well, then it's a good thing that we have the best and third best engineers in Starfleet here to fix it.

Rhan K'hal: @ :: nods :: Okeydokey!

Rhan K'hal: @ +Hunter + HQ, I'll be at the shuttle landing area by the time you get here.

Cptn Swain: @ Issaha's running a simulation on something so the computer's more or less occupied for what I need to do and if look at space-time equations much longer I might go mad.

Hunter Matheson: @ :::secures the hatch, slips into the pilot seat and powers up, setting it at minimal power::: +Copy that+

Cptn Swain: @ ::straightens his uniform and heads towards the HQ::

Rhan K'hal: @ :: parts way with Swain and heads for the landing area ::

Hunter Matheson: @ :::slow liftoff, careful to watch power consumption, easy turn toward shuttle landing area:::

Hakran K'hal: :: reads through the padd in more detail while he waits for Rhan to arrive ::

Hunter Matheson: @ ::notes that the atmospheric pull is a little less than earth as he literally floats toward the landing:::

Rhan K'hal: @ :: arrives, looks skyward as Hunter descends ::

Cptn Swain: Issaha> +Irene+ I mean I know a little, but I am going to be honest with you -- I am fairly certain getting us back to our normal time period might be more important than figuring out your uh... nanoissues.

Hunter Matheson: @ :::slow descent... easy landing... pops the hatch:::

Maryse Dubois: ::Goes to her office. She steps up to a small panel, inputting a code. A small section of the wall opens to reveal a secure vault.::

Hakran K'hal: LtJG Kenet> :: eases her way out of the lab before there's even louder shouting ::

Cptn Swain: Issaha> +Irene+ Though if we can't, then absolutely will see what I can do with your uh... nanothings.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::cuts the power:::

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::tossing the ball::

Rhan K'hal: @ :: hops in :: Quick ship run, Gunny. I'm going up, Hak's coming down.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She smiled in her suit.:: Yea, something like that. ::Deactivating her boots, she pushed off and sailed across a gap to another section of the hull, engaging her boots to touch down and secure herself.:: I'm thinking we may be able to salvage most of this, though, and use it to fabric new parts.

Maryse Dubois: ::She opens the vault, grabs a small case. She pulls a small vial from the case, and puts it back in the vault. After closing everything up, she leaves her office with the vial.::

Irene Mincine: +Issaha+ "Yes. Yes, you're right. That's more important." :: Her blood pressure lowered, slowly. :: +Issaha+ "But if this happened to me when we got sent *back* here, what happens when we go *forward* again? Am I going to become my own grandma?" :: She notices Maryse disappear into her office. :: "What's that?"

Hunter Matheson: @ ::meets him at the hatch:: Need help with anything, sir?

Indaura Ryssan: @ :: Working on the surface ::

Rhan K'hal: @ :: hops in :: Quick ship run, Gunny. I'm going up, Hak's coming down. :: slithers around Hunter to the 2nd seat ::

Hunter Matheson: @ ::corrects to:: To Excalibur aye. ::secures the hatch:::

Maryse Dubois: ::Holds up the vial, which appears to just be a clear solution.:: Medical nanites. I can't have these things in our basic storage room.

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::tossing the ball::

Hakran K'hal: #Semek> :: gets pummeled in another hydrothermal venting, which thanks to the eva suit doesn't put any holes in him, but does crack his faceshield - exhales a small puff of air in the Vulcan equivalent to a temper tantrum ::

William Chocox: I do believe that is the first bit of good news that we've had so far.

Indaura Ryssan: (bah, chatroom malfunction)

Hunter Matheson: @ How quick do you need it, sir? :::slips into the pilot seat::: Trying to conserve power but I'll get you there.

Irene Mincine: +Issaha+ "I can hear that, you know." :: She looks over the vial... :: "I... those can't be standard issue."

Rhan K'hal: @ It's not an emergency, so use the planet to your advantage. Hak's probably reading while he's waiting anyway.

Maryse Dubois: Well technically they are just blanks at the moment. They need input.

Cptn Swain: Issaha> +Irene+ ::Holds onto the ball:: I am running an important experiment.

Hunter Matheson: @ Aye, sir. :::powers up to a slow liftoff and turn, using the planet's gravity to advantage:::

Irene Mincine: +Issaha+ "Then get back to it, hmm?" :: She stopped the centrifuge on the table in front of her. :: "What kind of input?"

Hunter Matheson: @ Strap in, Sir. Clouds on the horizon....

Hakran K'hal: #Semek> :: returns with his samples to his buddy-system security and pilot who were waiting well out of the line of fire :: Let us return to the camp.

Cptn Swain: @ ::Asher settled into the HQ infostation and began looking over reports from the various teams exploring the planet, as well as from the fighter patrols.::

Hunter Matheson: @ +Excal+ Shuttle Cassiopeia on approach in five.

Rhan K'hal: @ :: straps in as requested ::

Indaura Ryssan: @ Now I just wait for something I hope does not come.

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::he glances to the ball.:: I hope this isn't Hakran's. ::now wondering if he needed to wash his hands.:::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: So, looks like we're going to need to get some logistics going on the equipment needed to cut away and harvest what we can, shore up what just needs a little TLC, and how much is going to need to be replaced entirely. ::She pursed her lips.:: Let's start getting detailed scans of this area.

Rhan K'hal: Ramirez> +Hunter+ FlOps confirms, steer clear of the damaged nacelle, they're space walking.

Maryse Dubois: Well they need to be told what to do, so I'm waiting on Rhan to get here to help program them.

Rhan K'hal: (( I finally gave up and made a spreadsheet to keep track of my NPCs ))

Hunter Matheson: @ ::moving up easily:: +Flight Ops+ Steer clear of the damaged nacelle, aye.

William Chocox: Yeah, I'll get started on that. ::pulls out a tricorder and starts scanning::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> Some CGI shots of the shuttle on approach, with details of people in EVA suits doing repairs.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::exits the gravity well then enters the upper atmo toward Excal:::

Hakran K'hal: :: makes some notations from his own expertise ::

Irene Mincine: "And you'll program them to... remove the foreign DNA?" :: Irene hrms. :: "Do we even know what that DNA is for, yet?"

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She stopped scanning to have a look at the planet again and incoming shuttle.:: Chocox, have a look. Don't get to see this too often...

Hunter Matheson: @ Oh, man... sure wouldn't like that job. ::scoots carefully around them and enters the landing corridor::: +Flight OPS+ Inbound. Landing in two.

Rhan K'hal: Ramirez> +Hunter+ Acknowledged, Cassiopeia.

Cptn Swain: ACTION> We even got a special score for this episode that will appear on the compilation album.

Rhan K'hal: @ I copy that, Gunny.

William Chocox: ::looks up:: Oh wow.

Rhan K'hal: @ Don't bother powering down, you won't be down long enough for the field strobe to stop flashing.

Maryse Dubois: Do you want to wait to find out, or would you like to get out of that bubble?

Hunter Matheson: @ ::nods to Rhan:: Aye, sir +flight OPS, Cassiopeia+ On final approach.

Hakran K'hal: :: notes the shuttle approaching through the view into space, tucks the padd under his arm and waits over in the quick-load area ::

Irene Mincine: "I want out of the bubble!"

Cptn Swain: (( Maryse doing her best Ursula impersonation: "Life's full of tough choices, iddn't it?" ))

Hunter Matheson: :::settles down in the bay:::

Hunter Matheson: ::Rhan:: Going to idle, sir. ::pops the hatch::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::With the shuttle tucked into the ship, Miranda turned to continue scanning, testing specific areas of the hull as she moved.::

Rhan K'hal: Nice flight, Gunny. Catch you later. :: unbuckles, pops the hatch and pops out, taking the padd from Hunter as they swap ::

Maryse Dubois: ((hehe))

Hakran K'hal: :: closes the hatch :: Back down to the planet base camp, Mr. Matheson. :: sits behind ::

Cptn Swain: @ ::Lifts a brow at one of the reports from a science team about finding fruits with 'interesting' properties, and makes a note to have the science K'hal keep an eye on them.::

William Chocox: ::goes back to scanning:: I love my job.

Rhan K'hal: :: reads through the padd as he grabs a lift up to the medical deck ::

Hunter Matheson: ::Hakran:: You got it, sir. Strap in. Storms on the horizon at the landing zone. ::powers up:::

Hakran K'hal: :: nods, does so absent-mindedly ::

Hunter Matheson: +Flight Ops+ Cassiopeia departing to planetside.

Hunter Matheson: ::figures there's no other shuttle in the corridor:::

Rhan K'hal: Ramirez> +Cassiopeia+ Safe travels, you're clear.

Hunter Matheson: :::slow liftoff, floats out::: +FOPs+ Copy that.

Rhan K'hal: :: pops out of the lift and jogs into sickbay, makes his way to Casa Irene ::

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::glances over at the computer readout:: Lloann'an et'rehs are always broken.

Maryse Dubois: ::Looks to Rhan.:: There he is.

Irene Mincine: "Oh, good, you're here." :: as Rhan arrives! :: "We've got... uh... well, we think we can get me out of this bubble."

Hunter Matheson: @ :::floats her down to the well and allows the planet to take over much of the pull:::

Maryse Dubois: ::Holding the vial.:: I take it your brother briefed you?

Hunter Matheson: @ ::Hakran:: Shuttle landing area, sir?

Hunter Matheson: @ ::tap...tap.. shift, taking control away from the planet:::

Rhan K'hal: :: flaps the padd in front of him :: Family shorthand comes in handy. Though I'd like to verify your plan of attack before I start pecking away at the programming.

Hakran K'hal: @ Yes. I need to check in with all my teams.

Cptn Swain: tr'Ehrik> ::in Romulan:: You speak pretty good Rihannsu, for a yy'a io.

Maryse Dubois: ::Hand him her own PADD.:: Here's the finer details of the routines they will need.

Hakran K'hal: @ You don't realize how much you take transporters for granted until you can't use them.

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::frowns, he hadn't heard the *other* Romulan walk in.::

Cptn Swain: (( TWO MINUTE WARNING ))

Maryse Dubois: Basically we need the little bugs to reset her DNA.

Rhan K'hal: :: takes, examines closely :: Oh, is that all.

Cptn Swain: Issaha> ::In Romulan:: I found it valuable to learn, during the war.

Hunter Matheson: @ Aye, sir. ::turns toward the LZ::: You got that right, sir. ::checks the area for anyone or anything that might be on planet and get smooshed:::

Irene Mincine: "Is that *all*... like you're flipping some switches in Engineering..."

Hunter Matheson: @ Coming in... :::slow descent, allowing the shuttle to float down:::

Rhan K'hal: Let's say for a computer expert I have some... learned expertise in genetic engineering.

Hunter Matheson: @ +Excal FOPs+ Shuttle Cassiopeia, wheels down on planet.

Rhan K'hal: :: thinking back to his experience on that bloody Scorpiad ship "factory"

Cptn Swain: ACTION> Planetside, several of the ARGO shuttles are touching down near the main LZ as Hunter approaches.

Rhan K'hal: Ramirez> +Hunter+ Acknowledged.

Cptn Swain: (( LOL was that also the time we were rescued by the Al-Ucard and they shaved you? ))

Hunter Matheson: @ ::pops the hatch:: There you go, sir. Thank you for flying Cassiopeia Shuttle Lines. Have a great day.

Rhan K'hal: (( yes ))

Maryse Dubois: ((haha))

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: (test)

Hakran K'hal: @ Looks like the teams are all popping home for lunch.

Maryse Dubois: ((And Hunter was gooed))

Hunter Matheson: (yeah)

Hakran K'hal: @ I hope someone has the traffic lights hooked up.

Cptn Swain: (( I had forgot about them shaving the cat ))

Rhan K'hal: Okay, this isn't going to be fast. They may be tiny but they're a bitch because of that.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene nods. :: "How long, do you think?"

Cptn Swain: ..and...

Rhan K'hal: When it's done.

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.:: But you're still the fastest at it.

Rhan K'hal: :: smiles :: You're damn right. Anyone else and we'd need the extra 100 years we have.

Maryse Dubois: ::Grins.::

Hunter Matheson: @ :::checking power consumption:::

Cptn Swain: (( We could dice roll for that! ))

Hunter Matheson: @ :::mental calculation::
