USS Excalibur Sim Log - 03.10.19

MISSION BRIEF: When we last left off our lost in time crew, they had arrived in orbit of out of way planet in unclaimed space that had been named Sarras -- one of the possible resting places of the holy grail -- to make repairs, get some rest, and hopefully restore supplies while a long term plan for our return to the proper time is hatched out. A team from Excalibur has landed on an M-class moon in orbit of a gas giant and has started to explore.

Hakran K'hal: @ :: having started poking around, sends a constant feed of the data up to the ship for Irene (plus the rest of the department) to peruse ::

Rhan K'hal: :: on the bridge, making sure Hak's feed doesn't blow up the wheezy computers ::

Hunter Matheson: @ ::geared up and ready to explore, maybe find edibles or even clean water::

Hunter Matheson: @ ::figures it'll be like SERE training, but a little more fun than that:::

Irene Mincine: :: Irene is hunched over and viewing the data stream, sending coordinates of various points of interest back down to the away team. :: "If you can get a core sample of the ground there... and bring back that lichen-covered rock..."

Maryse Dubois: ::Also on the bridge, by Rhan. She's keeping an eye on the Away Team.::

Hakran K'hal: @ So far so good, pretty much what you'd expect for a planet at this stage of its bioevolution. :: smirks at Irene's reverse flow on his tricorder :: Yes ma'am, right away ma'am.

Cptn Swain: ACTION> The planet is verdant and rather pleasant, if a bit green. In the green house sense. Still its rather lovely. Betcha thought I was going to make you guys land on some hell hole didn't you.

Hunter Matheson: (::snort::)

William Chocox: ((NGL, it did cross my mind.))

Hakran K'hal: @ Humid as hell, but I suppose that's to be expected with the aquathermal activity. :m: My fur is going to be frizzy as hell.

William Chocox: ::is working on the nacelle with various ensigns and lieutenants::

Hunter Matheson: ::bringing up the rear to make sure the shuttle is secure::

Hunter Matheson: @ ::grabs a @::

Hakran K'hal: @ Okay, as I'm not detecting any giant predators I think we can spread out a bit. Let's get that water sample to make sure it's potable, and someone fetch Irene's rock.

Cptn Swain: ::on the bridge:: You know I almost remember what it was like to regularly be surveying new worlds and meeting new civilizations.

Hakran K'hal: @ Medical, what's the word on the aeromicrobiology?

Rhan K'hal: Must be nice.

Irene Mincine: "Thank you, sir. Telling you where to go is the next best thing to being down there." :: Irene stretched out her aching back. ::

Hakran K'hal: @Planetary Scientist> :: getting Irene's rock ::

Indaura Ryssan: (i'm on the ship?)

Hakran K'hal: ((other than Hunter and I the team is all NPCs, so feel free to grab one and play with it))

Indaura Ryssan: :: Working in sickbay :: There better be something we can use for medical purposes on this planet.

Cptn Swain: It was. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever get the chance to do it again.

Rhan K'hal: That's what you get for taking on a command, sir. You know the regs. You could always get yourself demoted if you really wanna.

Hakran K'hal: @ :: gets to a small quickly flowing, and nicely burbling stream, squats down and takes samples ::

Irene Mincine: :: Irene eyes a reading from Hakran's tricorder. :: "How's that smell? I'm picking up high concentrations of cyanobacteria from that water source. Nothing a sanitizer won't take care of, but, um..."

Hunter Matheson: @ ::checking out the area, canopy, flora and fauna, edibles and non-edibles::: Hm... there's a lot to eat down here. There aren't any overt poisonous things, but you never know.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::Hakran:: Take samples, sir?

Hakran K'hal: @ +I+ It's lovely.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::reaches for his tric:::

Cptn Swain: @Jaypal> ::wondering how she keeps getting the short straw for playing babysitter for science missions, keeping a watch out as the nerds look for stuff.::

Maryse Dubois: ::Keeping an eye on some of the items already scanned.:: The good news is a lot of what they are finding is suitable as replicator matter.

William Chocox: ::bangs more nacelle parts into place:: +Bridge+ Bridge, can you tell me what the computer's saying about our progress here?

Hunter Matheson: @ ::scanscanscan:::

Hakran K'hal: @ That's why we're down here, Mr. Matheson. The sightseeing portion comes /after/ the exploration.

Hunter Matheson: @ Yes, sir. ::flips out his padd and begins documentation:::

Rhan K'hal: +Will+ It's saying "bang that bit harder, Cho." :: wry look over at Maryse :: I mean it, it's still loose.

Rhan K'hal: +Will+ As for the computer, you're... making progress.

Maryse Dubois: ::Grins.::

Cptn Swain: I threatened to do that Rhan, and Commander Hawthorne threatened to retaliate.

Rhan K'hal: :: grins over at Swain ::

Hakran K'hal: @ +I+ I do hope the subspace signal is strong enough for the sarcasm to come over fully.

Indaura Ryssan: I'd like a good soup

Hunter Matheson: @ Hm.... ::continues to scan, categorize, note:::

Irene Mincine: :: Irene grins, which naturally the others can't see. :: +Hakran+ "Don't worry, a haloxane treatment will purify the water. If you can find the source of that stream, we should be able to top off our water tanks. The scanner resolution that we've gotten back to is not good enough to find it from here."

Hakran K'hal: @ :: bags the water samples, gets back upright ::

William Chocox: +Rhan+ Thank you Lieutenant K'hal. ::goes back to putting things in place::

Cptn Swain: @Jaypal> ::At least that Klingon science officer or the Romulan one hadn't tagged along. They would have doubtlessly found some way to get into trouble. Probably eaten by a plant. Or fallen ins oem kind of quicksand. Or gods knew what else.::

Hakran K'hal: @ +I+ You know, once you're back in one timeline you should apply for my job, you're good at it.

Hunter Matheson: @ You know... a lot of this is similar to earth. Only a few things vary.

Hakran K'hal: @ :: waves his portion of the team along to follow the course upstream ::

Indaura Ryssan: brb

Hakran K'hal: @ Certain things take certain forms because the universe has the same laws, Mr. Matheson. Convergent evolution, to use the high-brow words.

Cptn Swain: @Jaypal> ::loosening her uniform jacket, it was humid as hell::

Hunter Matheson: @ Pretty nice of the universe to do that. ::checking everything they pass:::

Hakran K'hal: @ :: looks over the security grunts, points to Jaypal :: You're not shooting anything, take the drill from Semek, he needs his hands.

Irene Mincine: +Hakran+ "What, and be in charge of a team of scientists? I'd last about 30 seconds." :: Irene pokes at her scanner readout. :: "You're getting closer to the source."

Hakran K'hal: @Semek> :: it is hard to do science when your hands are full ::

Hakran K'hal: @ +I+ So, 15 seconds shorter than trouble usually finds you?

Hunter Matheson: @ ::Semek:: Need some help?

Cptn Swain: @Jaypal> ::Lifts a brow::

Hakran K'hal: @Semek> I do not /need/ help. However, if I am to use a tricorder I either need another arm with a fully functioning hand or to free the ones I already have.

Irene Mincine: +Hakran+ "It keeps things, interesting, doesn't it?" :: Tap tap tap. :: "200 meters or so."

Hakran K'hal: @Semek> :: raises an eyebrow to let the marine figure out which would be more expedient ::

Hunter Matheson: @ :::reaches into his pack and pulls out a thin but sturdy bag and shakes it open:: Here you go. And I can carry quite a bit if you need that.

Hakran K'hal: @Semek> This is a highly precision, and rather delicate instrument, master gunnery sergeant.

Indaura Ryssan: Hope we get to go down. Could use the fresh air.

Hakran K'hal: @ :: narrows eyes down the course of the stream :: Looks like a vent.

Cptn Swain: @Jaypal> ::keeping her eyes on the perimeter. She was less than thrilled with spreading them out, but so far that hadn't been a problem.::

Hunter Matheson: @ Understand that, sir. But just in case you need help, I'm here.

Hakran K'hal: @ Not a spurty one from the looks of it, but definitely high flow.

Hunter Matheson: @ :::tucks the bag back into the ruck::

Rhan K'hal: What did she threaten you with, sir? Or is that better not on the bridge log? :: grin brightens ::

Irene Mincine: :: Tap tap tap, beep boop. :: +Hakran+ "All right. I've tagged the location - an engineering team can set up a pump and filter and we can tank it up. Thanks, lieutenant."

Hakran K'hal: @ +I+ I concur, and happy to do your bidding, ensign. :: smirks ::

Hakran K'hal: @ +Bridge+ Hakran to Excalibur.

Cptn Swain: ::Starts to respond before hearing the other K'hal::

Rhan K'hal: +Hak+ Go ahead, bro.

Hakran K'hal: @ +Bridge+ We've found a high-flow water source. It will need filtering, but we should be able to tap in without overly affecting the overall flow of the stream. So we're good on potable water.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene forwards the location and scan results to the bridge science station. ::

Cptn Swain: ::Makes his way over to the science console, carrying a metal water container:: Good.

Rhan K'hal: +Hak+ Quartermaster should be able to take care of that so we don't have to pull any engineers off ship repairs. I'll let them know.

Indaura Ryssan: This entire in the past thing has my nervous.

Hakran K'hal: @+Bridge+ Good. Going to head back to the shuttle to move to the next survey point for replicator material.

Rhan K'hal: +Hak+ Understood. :: looks to Swain to see if he wants to add anything else ::

Hunter Matheson: @ ::wondering what this moon looks like 100 years from now:::

Cptn Swain: ::Shakes his head::

Irene Mincine: +Hakran+ "Transmitting coordinates of the next survey zone." :: Tap tap tap. :: "Somehow I don't think Commander Hawthorne is going to put me in charge of anyone or anything for a while."

Rhan K'hal: +Hak+ Bridge out.

Cptn Swain: I'd like to begin setting up a base camp down there as soon as possible.

Cptn Swain: While I don't think any of us want to stay in the time period forever, until we have made some serious repairs to the ship that's not going to be possible.

Rhan K'hal: Based on the data from the first area, I think it would work nicely after we get the water taken care of.

Hakran K'hal: @+I+ Said the pot to the kettle.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::has this weird thought about establishing a colony here and not being able to return to the future, they have to stay. then 100 years from now someone comes around for a first contact of a new civilization on a distant moon:::

Cptn Swain: Have Fighter Command get the CAP out as soon as they feel they're ready.

Rhan K'hal: :: nods :: Will do, sir.

Irene Mincine: +Hakran+ "Now what's that supposed to mean, sir?" :: Irene checked the sensors. :: "Sensors show dilithium deposits at the next survey area. If you take some core samples we can confirm the purity."

Hakran K'hal: @ Mr. Matheson, if you'd like to go warm up the shuttle, we're going to take one deep sample with the laser drill while we're here and then we're off to the shuttle to move to the next location.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::holsters the tric:: Aye, sir. She's on hot standby so she'll be ready in about two.

Hakran K'hal: @+I+ You two are so alike I'm surprised Dr. Dubois isn't studying both of your DNA.

Hakran K'hal: @ :: nods at Hunter ::

Rhan K'hal: :: forwards the orders to the fighters ::

Irene Mincine: +Hakran+ "I... well, I am surprised that she hasn't ripped my head off and sent me back to Earth in a torpedo casing by now."

Cptn Swain: @Jaypal> ::Was happy to hear that. Something about this place kept her on edge and she couldn't place it.::

Hunter Matheson: @ ::jogs back through wherever they are and toward the shuttle::

Hakran K'hal: @Semek> :: sets up the drill and gets it running ::

Cptn Swain: You know it is funny we're stuck in this time period though.

Rhan K'hal: Oh? Ha ha ha.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::keys in the code and the hatch opens:::

Cptn Swain: ::Takes a drink of water as he settled into the science console, and toyed with the sensors:: Arden left a book in my quarters that I've been reading ::motions towards his chair::

Cptn Swain: It's a bound copy of diary and log stuff from his great uncle that was a Captain of a starship during this period.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::moves forward, hanging his ruck in position and moves from hot standby to full:::

Cptn Swain: It's sort of boring, really. But it's the only thing in my quarters I haven't read and with the computer system being as it is...

Rhan K'hal: :: nods :: It would be rather hard to match the diary and logs you'd have if you'd been allowed to record any of the damn fool things we've had to do lately.

Cptn Swain: True.

Hakran K'hal: @Semek> Sample is collected, sir. :: begins re-packing the drill ::

Hunter Matheson: @ :::flight check sequence, then..::: +Hakran+ We're ready for liftoff, sir.

Hakran K'hal: @ Very good, ensign.

Hakran K'hal: @+Hunter+ How do you feel about picking us up in a hover-landing?

Hunter Matheson: @ +Hakran+ If you're up to it, sir, I can do.

Cptn Swain: I don't know why Arden was reading it, to be honest.

Irene Mincine: +Hakran+ "Oh yeah, I'm going to need some biology equipment set up in my sickbay prison now that we have some samples to look at."

Cptn Swain: The note from his uncle or whatever seems like he got it a long time ago.

Rhan K'hal: Connection to family, I suppose. I've read some dreck my great-grandfather wrote.

Hunter Matheson: @ :::checks their position:: +Hakran+ Roping up, or hover low?

Hakran K'hal: @ +Hunter+ Let's do it, the more energy we can save for the team the better, and I know you're good for running about fetching the shuttle. Keep it low.

Cptn Swain: (( 5 Minute Warning ))

Hakran K'hal: @+I+ I really doubt the doctors will want you to be examining items inside there, and the time bubble would create an unacceptable variable in any sample data. It goes to the biology lab, where the rest of the sub-department can do what it's trained to do.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::slow liftoff, checking as the shuttle builds::: +Hakran+ Copy that. On the way. I can give you a safe hover at one meter.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::slow motion toward their position, above the bushes and whatever is there::

Hunter Matheson: @ ::making sure the gauges aren't objecting:::

Irene Mincine: :: Irene sighs, disappointed. :: +Hakran+ "I'm a biologist and you found a strange new world. I can't just *sit* in my room and do nothing while the rest of the department does all the science!"

Cptn Swain: (( Maybe you should think long and hard about what you did, Irene. >>

Hunter Matheson: @ ::settles down in their area, one meter above ground, opens the hatch:::

Hakran K'hal: @ +I+ You're hardly doing "nothing," Irene.

Hakran K'hal: @ :: waves the team onto the shuttle, slightly amused as they clamber up the meter to get into the hatch ::

Cptn Swain: ::Considers teeing up a probe for launch to study the star, but thinks better of it.::

Irene Mincine: +Hakran+ "OK, yeah, I told you what to do..."

Irene Mincine: (( *pouts, sits in the corner with the lights off* ))

Cptn Swain: Add to our list of things I want to do when we get a chance, but in no super high priority... Mister K'hal.

Hunter Matheson: @ ::waiting for the okay to move off::

Cptn Swain: A class IV probe to do some solar scans.

Cptn Swain: If we're going to be here any amount of time, I'd like to get a better analysis of it.

Hakran K'hal: @+I+ And you're processing the data and doing what I'd normally be doing for you. So now you know my joy.

Cptn Swain: ::And to give himself something to do.::

Cptn Swain: We also might want to know more about its gravity wells for possibly using it for a time jump.

Rhan K'hal: Might it not be better to use one of the stealthier, and capable of running away, fighters, sir? We are trying to maintain lowest profile.

Irene Mincine: +Hakran+ "True. I'll keep that in mind if I'm offered a hollow pip for my collar."

Rhan K'hal: We can always fit one with the probe sensors.

Hunter Matheson: @ :::hover.. hover..hover. hover:::

Cptn Swain: I suppose. ::Frowns:: Very well.

Cptn Swain: ...AND...

Hakran K'hal: @ :: finally hops on, nimbly ::

Hakran K'hal: @ Take us out, Mr. Matheson.

Hakran K'hal: @ :: closes the hatch ::

Hunter Matheson: @ Aye, sir. :::liftoff:::

Hunter Matheson: @ And coordinates would be nice. ::smirk::

Hakran K'hal: @ :: eyerolls, sends it from his tricorder to the shuttle ::
