USS Excalibur Sim Log - 02.24.19

MISSION BRIEF: The Excalibur is nearing its hopeful safe haven of Sarras. The going has been slow, but uneventful.

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Hunter Matheson: ::@ helm, keeping an eye out::

Indaura Ryssan: :: Doing paperwork, without paper ::

Rhan K'hal: :: having set up Irene with one of his console-on-the-go padds, is now on the bridge next to his brother, looking at the ever-increasing resolution sensor data of Sarras ::

William Chocox: ::is still working on the EPS system::

Maryse Dubois: :;In her office, looking over supply reports.::

Hunter Matheson: ::takes one more nibble of the energy bar and stashes the last bit in his uniform pocket, then leans against the helm chair to crack his back:::

Irene Mincine: :: Irene's pacing in sickbay reading the padd. The stabilizer bubble has been enhanced to an area the size of the room so she can at least get out of bed, now. ::

Cptn Swain: ::Is in his quarters, getting a nap in::

Hakran K'hal: :: at Sci 1, constantly tapping here and tapping there to work the sensors ::

Rhan K'hal: Computer, engage conference with sickbay LTC room alpha. :: with a delayed beep, a console in Irene's room pops up with the image of the bridge Caitians, with enough room for Issaha if he joins the science party ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Miranda tossed her spanner into the kit as she passed and paused to pour herself a mug of hot tea. Some blessed soul had been considerate enough to make an entire pot. She sank down into a chair near Chocox, rubbing the back of her neck with one hand as she waited for her drink to cool.:: How's the progress, Chocox?

Rhan K'hal: :: does not have a visual on Irene though, because even in the 24th Century those patient gowns can flap where they should flop ::

William Chocox: Slower than any of us would like, but faster than we hoped.

Hunter Matheson: ::then he checks out the area they are approaching, looking for a place to hide if it's needed, then checking his designated exit vector, then remembering that Excal is probably not capable of an emergency exit, so he throws that out the window:::

Hakran K'hal: +Irene+ How's your feed down there?

Hunter Matheson: ::Tork is taking a cat nap next to him so he gives him a poke:::

Irene Mincine: "Looking fine to me. How's the bridge?" :: Irene is thankful she can't be seen, since she hasn't showered in a few days stuck in that bed... ::

Hunter Matheson: ::Tork:: Gettin' close. Need you awake.

Hunter Matheson: ::Tork rubs the sand out of his eyes and straightens up, still only half awake:::

Hakran K'hal: I feel like I'm in an NX class simulator with the quality of these feeds. Not to mention it still smells like various electro-fried substances up here. :: nose-wrinkle ::

William Chocox: How's it going with your work?

Rhan K'hal: :: pats Hak on the shoulder :: Spend enough time up here even you'll get used to it.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Sensors and weapons are operational, though in need of power. How do you think the EPS will hold up under extreme stress? If we have to amp up the warp drive, we're going to have to handle the surge.

Irene Mincine: "Smells like sanitizers and antibiotics down here. Come give me a visit, maybe you can convert your time stabilizer into a backpack for me." :: Irene gestures to the console in the corner emitting a blue glow, then remembers the bridge can't see her. ::

William Chocox: Extreme stress? It's not going to last long.

Indaura Ryssan: :: Gets up to fill medicine supplies ::

Hakran K'hal: Maybe I can get Rhan to look at the setup once we get set up. He's the expert at miniaturizing.

Rhan K'hal: :: looks toward "Irene" aka a portable holorecorder :: I can do that. In the meanwhile though, you should have just as much control to do what you'd do if you were up here. I have your :: finger quotes :: console repeating on Sci 2 so we can look over your shoulder, so to speak. Just remember to speak up if there's something you want us to look at. Unless you can point really loudly.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She sighed.:: So... we need a way to counteract that. Backups on our backups. Safety nodes to keep the main ones from getting fried.

Cptn Swain: ACTION> Sarras comes into visual sensor range. There is a gorgeous blue star at the heart of the system, which deffo is using our CGI budget for the week, as well as some soaring sci fi score coming in behind as we get to see several planets, and then a close up to a gas giant with a thin ring, and then lush, Europa sized M-class moon. Still a bit out for detailed scans, but things are looking good.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene looks at the initial readings with a big grin on her face, setting up for biological scanning. :: "Oooooooooh. Looks like plenty to study down there while we're here..."

William Chocox: Indeed. Is that tea?

Indaura Ryssan: :: Goes to Dubois, hands her a padd :: This is the schedule for the week.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Yea, made the old school way. Have a stash of the real thing and thought I'd break it out so we can save the replicator rations. ::She gestured to the pot.::

Maryse Dubois: ::Looks up, taking the PADD.:: Thanks.

Hakran K'hal: Pretty typical setup for this type of star. Not going to find any M classes without a gas-giant magnetic field to divert the radiation and solar wind from an A1IV

Indaura Ryssan: How is Irene?

Hakran K'hal: Planet doesn't look tidally locked though, may be a relatively recent planetary capture, astronomically speaking. That'll bode well for life diversity.

Maryse Dubois: She appears to be fine, though suffering from a little cabin fever.

Rhan K'hal: Getting just enough resolution now to see some of the mineral resources available in the system. I think the engineers will be pleased.

Hunter Matheson: ::checking out the images::

Indaura Ryssan: I am suffering that, and I'm a Denobulan.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene reads all the results! :: "Right. The conditions look good for advanced carbon-based life. Ooooh, I want to get down there! Mineralogical survey shows deposits of deuterium, dilithium, rare earth metals... we could build a whole new starship here if we needed to."

Rhan K'hal: Don't tell Commander Hawthorne that please, I'd like to get back to the future without actually turning 100.

William Chocox: ::pours himself some:: Thank you. And the replicators can't really make tea properly.

Irene Mincine: "More practically, we might be able to restore our replicator reserves. It'll take a more intensive survey to find details, though, given how bad our sensors are doing."

Maryse Dubois: If we are lucky, they may clear some of us to go to the planet's surface for supplies.

Hakran K'hal: :: quirks an ear :: You may get a chance to pilot a probe down there, Irene, but I doubt the doctor would let you off-ship even if we can get your time-stabilization mobile.

Hunter Matheson: ::listening to the convo, thinking it's almost too good and goes skeptical:::

Rhan K'hal: :: has a scan going on all known communication frequencies to make sure we aren't dropping in on someone's civilization ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: I'd have to agree with you, there. I've toyed with the programming, but to no avail. ::She sat her mug on the console and leaned forward to run yet another diagnostic.:: Looks like the temporary routes are holding so far. Some damage still yet to be repaired, but power to all decks and essential systems is a good sign.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene sighs, knowing he's probably right. :: "I'm more interested in possible lifeforms than minerals, anyway."

William Chocox: Good. Do you want me to move onto something else or continue shoring it up?

Rhan K'hal: If you find any that'd be good roasted over an open plasma conduit let me know.

Hakran K'hal: :: rolls eyes ::

Indaura Ryssan: A chance to collect some specimens.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: You tell me. Anything you've seen that needs our immediate attention?

Hunter Matheson: ::snorts at Rhan's comment::

Rhan K'hal: We can make some spears out of the wreckage and put the Marines in loincloths, to make it fair.

Irene Mincine: "Can we make him do the mineral survey?"

Maryse Dubois: I was looking at supply numbers. We have plenty of water as long as the recyclers remain functional. It's food that we are in need of the most.

Hakran K'hal: :: "I'm a Starfleet officer and a department head, I will not cuff him on the head. I'm a Starfleet officer and a department head, I will not cuff him on the head." he chants silently to himself ::

Hunter Matheson: +Engineering+ Question on loincl... ::sighs:: I mean maneuverability. How much stress can we put on the system? We're gonna need it for orbit vector.

Indaura Ryssan: We could use some new items for the hydroponics.

Rhan K'hal: Okay, there's the radiation belt. Not as zippy as the Jovian one but still, best to stay out of it until we're sure we won't fry someone's eyeballs that's looking out at the view. :: forwards the hazardous zone coordinates to helm ::

Hunter Matheson: ::Rhan:: Hazardous zone coords appreciated, sir.

Hakran K'hal: High concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere. Things looking coniferous to you, Irene?

Rhan K'hal: :: tail loop in response to Hunter ::

Irene Mincine: "More practically, we might be able to restore our replicator reserves." :: Irene blinked and shook her head, having shifted backwards for a second that time. :: "Sorry. What's that, sir?"

Hakran K'hal: High O2, Irene. We looking at a coniferous biome, I hope? I hate wading around in single-celled organisms.

Irene Mincine: "Oh. Right." :: Irene gazed over the survey results. :: "Looks like we should have plenty of temperate forest to wade through. No more muck or slime. Not sure about animal life but definitely large amounts of vegetation." :: For budgetary reasons, all planets are just Vancouver, but we don't know that. ::

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.:: If you do collect any flora for hydroponics, make sure you examine it completely before bringing it on board. I don't want anything that starts yelling "Feed me."

Hunter Matheson: ::plots several courses re: haz zone coords:::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Miranda cocked her head.:: +Matheson+ I'd say about half as much as usual. We still have some exterior structural issues and our power systems aren't yet up to speed.

Rhan K'hal: :: slides over to mission ops, tidies up the data a bit, then forwards the initial survey results down to Engineering ::

Hunter Matheson: +Eng+ Copy that, ma'am.

William Chocox: I can continue on the power supply issues.

Indaura Ryssan: Feed me? :: thinks :: I'll look up the reference later.

Hakran K'hal: :: sighs :: I don't know whether that's good or bad. Obviously high carbon content is good for the replicator stores, but planets in that stage of planetary evolution are usually pretty low on high-complexity lifeforms and high on flappy things with exoskeletons. Especially at this O2 concentration. :: is a bit phobic of large insects ::

Rhan K'hal: :: rolls his chair back over, makes a buzzing sound as he passes Hak ::

Hakran K'hal: :: hunches ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Alright, get me a status report when you think they're stable enough to test. I'd like to do that before we actually need those systems.

Irene Mincine: "We could get lucky. Maybe it's the planet the dinosaurs came from."

Rhan K'hal: Mmm, grilled sauropod.

Maryse Dubois: ::Grins.::

Hakran K'hal: Would you stop thinking with your stomach?

Hunter Matheson: (w) Mmm bottom of the food chain.

William Chocox: Aye ma'am.

Rhan K'hal: Sure, when I can stop eating these damned protein bars and water bottled when Mom was still a toddler.

Hakran K'hal: :: emits a particularly Caitian sound of annoyance that seems to rumble up from the floor ::

Irene Mincine: "Look, at least you're not stuck on the Dr. Dubois diet up there on the bridge. Protein bars are at least technically food!"

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She looked at the board, thinking the list was growing rather than shrinking, and groaned.:: Though first... I've got a special task for you, Chocox.

Rhan K'hal: Oh, is Maryse being strict? I'll smuggle down one of the :: finger quotes again :: "chocolate chip" bars when I come down to look at your setup.

Hakran K'hal: :: rolls eyes again, concentrates on the new data coming in ::

Irene Mincine: "Smuggle me in a hip flask full of Saurian brandy and now we're talking." :: Irene looks over the survey data. :: "Don't make me set up my own still down here."

Hakran K'hal: Okay, we should be able to start resolving things down to 100m, and shrinking.

Cptn Swain: (( 3 Minute Warning ))

Rhan K'hal: :: pats the nearby separator panel between console groups :: Good girl, I knew you could make it.

Rhan K'hal: What's our ETA to orbit, Gunny?

William Chocox: Special task? Should I be worried ma'am?

Hunter Matheson: ::checks it out::: Depends on the orbit, but I'd say ten.

Hunter Matheson: Could be as much as 20, depending on the angle I need to use.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Yea, about falling over on your face from exhaustion. Get some rest. At least a few hours sleep. That's an order.

Rhan K'hal: Relay that to the XO, see how she wants us parked.

Hunter Matheson: Aye, sir.

William Chocox: Ah, I see. Aye ma'am.

Hunter Matheson: +XO+ Engineering, helm. ETA to orbit depends on angle I need to use when we get there. Variable is 10 to 20 minutes.
