USS Excalibur Sim Log - 11.11.18

Cptn Swain: MISSION BRIEF: The Excalibur has left orbit of Maraxis IV and has dropped off the Director on the Kaedwan homeworld; we are now headed back towards Federation space.

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Irene Mincine: :: Irene is down in the biology lab running water samples from the planet through various pieces of lab equipment. She loads some vials into a centrifuge and starts them a-spinning. ::

Maryse Dubois: ::Glad to be back where it is nice and dry.::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Now that they were underway and the resupply had gone without a hitch, Miranda had decided to blow off some steam in the holodeck. She still couldn't punch her way through her problems, not with her sore hand, but shooting things was almost as much fun.::

Cptn Swain: ::In his ready room, drinking tea and looking over a report on the water samples from the planet. He also had an unread letter from Arden sitting nearby.::

Tandaris Admiran: ::reading a romance novel in engineering::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: (( I bet Trill romance novels are very complicated. ))

William Chocox: ::walks into Engineering and goes to his workstation:: Is that a new novel or the same one?

Tandaris Admiran: No, the last one was a mystery.

Tandaris Admiran: In this one, three people have been murdered in a locked room, and there are no obvious suspects.

Indaura Ryssan: That was a fascinating place, don't you think?

William Chocox: I thought the last one was a romance novel, and this one sounds like a mystery.

Hakran K'hal: :: stops by the biology lab ::

Tandaris Admiran: No, this one is definitely a romance. Think about it: they catch the killer and live happily ever after. Romance. The last one was a mystery. Think about it: they have to figure out how to be together despite all the challenges in their way. They're solving a mystery.

Irene Mincine: :: The centrifuge spins and spins. :: "Computer, addition to work log. Begin centrifuge sequence on samples 44B to 64B - 90 minute period. Samples 24B to 43B are in the curing oven." :: She doesn't notice Hakran come in. The computer beeps acknowledgement. ::

William Chocox: That's...that's not how any of this works.

Hakran K'hal: Any results so far?

Rhan K'hal: :: minding the bridge ::

Maryse Dubois: ::Looks up from the PADD she was reading.:: Oh, yeah. At least everything seemed to run smoothly.

Irene Mincine: "Oh! I didn't know you were here." :: Irene turns away from the lab equipment to face K'hal. It looks like she's been working hard. :: "The biology of the organisms in the water is nothing like conventional non-deuterium life. That's about all I know so far, and what all this equipment is for."

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She was sweating by the time she made it through the first round. Taking a breather while the computer randomized the next encounter, she checked the chrono and wiped her forehead with the back of her hand.::

Cptn Swain: Augustin> ::arrives on the bridge, carrying a PADD::

Hakran K'hal: :: nods, smiles :: A challenge, something to look forward to. And having a Cait for a boss you'll get used to me popping up behind you. Eventually.

Rhan K'hal: :: glances over, finger salutes :: Commander.

William Chocox: ::starts working on his pet project again::

Irene Mincine: :: Something beeps behind her - Irene resets some timers, jiggles some levers... :: "I suppose there are worse bosses to have. And worse challenges to have, too."

Indaura Ryssan: :: Looking over the information she gathered from their last mission ::

Hakran K'hal: Speaking of challenges and felinoids, Rhan and I are still working with our two friends. Maybe by the time 'Fleet figures out what to do with them for the long run we'll know their names. We do have more general vocabulary down. In any case, thank you for caring for them otherwise, they appreciate.

Cptn Swain: Augustin> ::Nods:: Mister K'hal. How are things?

Rhan K'hal: They left the J.G. with the keys, so very calm at the moment, sir.

Irene Mincine: "Thank you, sir!" :: She's still messing with lab equipment, recording results... :: "I love taking care of them - they're adorable, intelligent, and sweet. I'm glad you've made a connection with them."

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Miranda launched into the next round, running for cover as phaser fire came from the darkness. She saved her return fire until she drew closer and could see her target. Slowly, she began working her way forward, crouching, skittering, rolling to dodge enemy fire.::

Indaura Ryssan: There is so much data here from our new friends.

William Chocox: ::leans back from a flair:: Meant to do that.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: (( That better not be anything explosive, Chocox. ))

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.:: I've been skimming through some of it.

Hakran K'hal: I'll leave you to the work, just wanted to make sure you hadn't accidentally grown a giant deuterium-powered sea monster with a little ionizing radiation. Let's keep it that way. :: chuckles and exits the lab ::

Cptn Swain: Augustin> ::Smirks:: Got to say, not sure when the last time we had such a routine mission was.

William Chocox: ((Far as you know.))

Rhan K'hal: 3 commanding officers ago, as far as I know.

Irene Mincine: "Not yet, sir." :: Irene finally got everything set up the way she needed. :: "Another 80 minutes of centrifuge to go..." :: She turned around and Hakran was gone. :: "Oh, he left..."

Indaura Ryssan: And those creatures. I would have liked one or two if I thought they could survive in our environment.

Hakran K'hal: :: off to slide silently into and out of other labs mysteriously ::

Maryse Dubois: The ship is becoming a zoo as it is. We don't need more animals.

Cptn Swain: Augustin> ::Smirks:: Our new marine commander is going to get the wrong idea about us.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene checks the holodeck status on a wall computer. She did have some time to kill, after all. Miranda was in one? Maybe she could use some personal training! :: "Ensign Mincine to Commander Hawthorne. Up for some holodeck activity?"

Rhan K'hal: Considering we wore the last one into retirement, maybe a more gentle transition is in order.

Cptn Swain: Augustin> ::Chuckles:: I suppose.

William Chocox: ::turns toward Tandaris:: Am I missing an eyebrow?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Another phaser beam shot past her, inches from her shoulder, and she ducked and rolled, coming up behind a stack of crates. She returned fire, striking her opponent. Another shot came from the left and she dodged again, firing in that direction. Her shot missed, but the second hit. Her aim was getting better.::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Computer, pause simulation. ::She needed a breather, anyhow. Wiping away her sweat, she hailed Irene.:: +Irene+ If you have a free hour, feel free to join me. I'm just doing a bit of target practice.

Tandaris Admiran: ::studies Chocox intently:: How many did you have previously?

William Chocox: Two.

Irene Mincine: +Miranda+ "Sure, love to. Be there in a few minutes. I'm running a centrifuge experiment in the lab - I've got some free time here." :: She heads out of the lab, securing the equipment before she leaves, and up to Miranda's holodeck. ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Computer, resume. ::She jumped back into the sim, wanting to run through as far as she could go before Irene arrived.::

Hakran K'hal: :: slips into another lab to find Issaha bent over a console ::

Indaura Ryssan: -++

Tandaris Admiran: Ah. Then no, both appeared accounted for.

William Chocox: Alright. And if the commander asks I'm not working on something explosive.

Cptn Swain: Augustin> ::Slips into the tactical console to finish a note::

Irene Mincine: :: Irene changed in the locker room into a more suitable outfit for athletic activity - a Science blue tank top that shows off her guuuuuuunz and some tight shorts that wouldn't get in the way. 10 minutes or so later, she entered Miranda's holodeck. ::

Tandaris Admiran: ::licks finger, turns the page on his novel:: Excellent.

Tandaris Admiran: Wait

Tandaris Admiran: *Are* you working on something explosive?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::A shot of phaser fire streaked across the dark interior of the holodeck and almost struck Irene, barely missing her leg.::

William Chocox: If you don't know you won't have to lie.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene drew her phaser and instinctively took cover behind a large plastic crate. :: "Commander!"

Tandaris Admiran: That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Miranda looked back toward the door and straightened.:: Computer, end sim. ::The dark interior faded and was replaced by the standard holodeck grid.::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She grinned at Irene.:: Don't worry, my safety protocols were on. Still would have hurt if it had hit you, however.

William Chocox: It's not explosive.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene made sure her phaser was set to simulation mode - it was automatically when she stepped into the program. :: "I've been phasered plenty of times, Commander. Don't worry about it." :: She stood up from behind her rapidly-disappearing crate. :: "There a reason you were working on target practice, sir?"

Hakran K'hal: :: decides Issaha is wrapped up enough in his current work to not bother him, slips back out the door, realizing that the new doors really are almost silent - figures it's about time that doors stop whooshing ::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> A signal pings on sub-space. It's a distress call from a Kaedwan Freighter.

Rhan K'hal: Ops> Sir, we're receiving a distress call from a Kadwan freighter.

Tandaris Admiran: Is it corrosive?

Rhan K'hal: Put it through.

Rhan K'hal: +Swain+ Captain to the bridge!

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Because I need the practice. Just like hand to hand. I'm woefully out of practice. Too much time spent crawling through engineering tubes and skimming paperwork.

William Chocox: Could be.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She sighed.::

William Chocox: Depending on the circumstances.

Tandaris Admiran: ::sigh::

Rhan K'hal: Ops> :: puts through what there is of the distress call ::

Cptn Swain: Distress Signal> ::heavy static almost nothing comes through:: Und..er att..ck. M-y Da- H-lp. Can't get out. Can't get.... ::transmission stops at its source:

Irene Mincine: :: Irene smiled. :: "I know what you mean. It's always good to get out from behind the desk, yeah?"

Cptn Swain: Augustin> ::Lifts a brow and begins to triangulate the distress signal::

Rhan K'hal: Helm, be prepared to come about.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Yea, especially to work out some frustrations. ::She flexed her injured hand.::

Cptn Swain: Augustin> I have a fix on the signal, but long-range sensors can't confirm anything there. It's on the border of Kaedwan and ::frowns:: Tamarian space.

Rhan K'hal: Well, won't that be fun. Helm, set course and engage, max speed. Yellow alert.

Irene Mincine: "Still not ready for combat training?" :: Irene rolled her shoulder - you could still see the healing wound from where Maryse put it all back together, plus the remnants of the starburst pattern deep phaser burn :: "Yeah, me neither, probably..."

Rhan K'hal: Call ahead to the freighter, acknowledge the signal and then forward a message to the Confederacy to let them know we're responding.

Cptn Swain: ::Looks up at the alert:: +bridge:: Report.

Indaura Ryssan: :: Looks up :: Yellow alert...

Rhan K'hal: +Swain+ Captain, we've received a distress call from a Kaedwan freighter. I've put us on course, was about to contact you again.

William Chocox: ::looks at the lights:: Looks like we're about to be needed.

Cptn Swain: ::Steps out onto the bridge:: Lovely.

Cptn Swain: ...and..

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Yea, one reason why I've been taking it easy. ::She frowned as the alert sounded and moved to the holodeck control panel to see what was going on.::

Rhan K'hal: :: rises from the chair :: I didn't get to tell you the best part, it's on the Tamarian border on top of it.

Maryse Dubois: It was only a matter of time before the quiet died.

Rhan K'hal: :: takes ops back ::

Cptn Swain: This just gets more fun.
