USS Challenger - October 26, 2018 - Final Flight

We wish the crew of USS Challenger all the best as they move on to new adventures in Starfleet.

Cptn Ja'Lale: USS Challenger Mission Brief - 26 October 2018: The Challenger has responded to a distress call from a nearby Star base which was under attack by several large warbirds and Birds of Prey. Also answering the call, was one additional Excelsior, 2 Constellations and a Miranda class ship -- 5 ships in total. TBS was none and we were in the midst of defending the star base. Any questions?

Cptn Ja'Lale: BEGIN SIM
Cptn Ja'Lale: BEGIN SIM

Hunter Matheson: :::at helm, joining up with the group for a coordinated attack.:::
Dvokr chim Hok: :: At operations ::
Dyan Sylvanis: ::At Tactical, keeping up the pressure.::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: Challenger was hit by enemy disruptor fire, erupting the bridge in a shower of sparks and a falling bulkhead (thankfully, no red shirts were harmed). Shields are down to 46%.
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Braces as things crash around her. She looks back to make sure everyone is ok.::
Caitlin Townshend: ::steadies herself at her station:: That didn't sound good
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: Hull breaches on decks 7, 8 and 10.
Dvokr chim Hok: Bah! :: scrambles ::
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Turns back to her console.:: Shields are down to 46%.
Dyan Sylvanis: Damage control teams are responding to reported breaches.
Hunter Matheson: :::jumps from the sparks, then back to helm, fighting to regain control:: Helm regaining power.
Cptn Ja'Lale: Continue with evasives.. if you can and return fire.
Caitlin Townshend: ::scanning for weaknesses in the Romulan vessels::
Dyan Sylvanis: Yes Sir! ::Focuses on returning fire.::
Hunter Matheson: ::holes in his uniform from the sparks:: Power up. Evasive maneuver, aye.
Hunter Matheson: ::rolls as much as Challenger can roll to get out of the line of fire, letting the Excelsior take position as it dives through the group:::
Dvokr chim Hok: Power problems all over the ship
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: Challenger fires a full return volley at one of the warbirds.
Hunter Matheson: ::dives past the warbird, then veers off toward another hostile::
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Coordinating with the remaining station fighters to finish off the warbird. Fires aft weapons as they dive past.::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: There are 4 warbirds and 2 large D7s remaining in the enemy fleet. Their shields have taken damage but look to still be intact. One ship has been destroyed.
Caitlin Townshend: One of the warbirds appears to be favouring its port side … starboard shields have weak points developing.
Dyan Sylvanis: On it. ::Relays the weakness.::
Hunter Matheson: Copy, El Tee. Moving in that direction.
Cptn Ja'Lale: Good good...
Dyan Sylvanis: :;Fires when the opportunity presents itself.::
Hunter Matheson: Coming up portside aft..... now!
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: The warbird's shields fail from the direct hit and is now venting plasma on its port side as a result from the hit. The ship begins to pull back.
Hunter Matheson: Angling off :::shifts starboard and over::
Caitlin Townshend: ::continues scanning::
Dvokr chim Hok: Bypassing damaged areas
Hunter Matheson: ::Maneuvering through, past a Constellation, coming around to target a D7 that doesn't seem to notice them (I hope):::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: The rest of the warbirds however, continue to swarm the Federation fleet firing volleys at them. Challenger shudders from another hit, shields drop to 39%
Dyan Sylvanis: Romulans aren't known to stick around if their advantage starts to falter. If we can take out one of those D7s...
Hunter Matheson: ::moves out to recoup::
Cptn Ja'Lale: Easier said than done there.
Hunter Matheson: ::at random:: I would think the fleet would give us more power....
Hunter Matheson: ::Syl:: Give me the coordinates of the D7 - hard to spot in this mess.
Dyan Sylvanis: Sending. ::Gives coordinates.::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: Long range scanners indicate ten more Romulan warbirds from inside the Neutral Zone, they decloak but do not cross.
Hunter Matheson: Coordinates received... here we go....
Caitlin Townshend: Uh-oh
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Lets out a curse.:: I see them too.
Caitlin Townshend: Captain, I've got 7... no, make that 10 warbirds just on the other side of the Neutral Zone.
Hunter Matheson: ::spots it on his console::: Moving to attack.
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: Before Ja'Lale can say anything the lead vessel hails the Challenger.
Dvokr chim Hok: We are being hailed
Hunter Matheson: ::hears the hail and pulls up:::
Cptn Ja'Lale: On screen.
Hunter Matheson: ::rubs his arms where the sparks burned through his uniform:::
Dvokr chim Hok: :: does so ::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ::A Romulan Admiral appears on screen:: This is Khre'Riov (Rear Admiral) tr'Kavik of the 15th Galae Support Fleet. We have been authorized to inform au that these are rogue operatives acting outside of the interests of the Romulan Star Empire. (...)
Hunter Matheson: :::holding steady:::
Hunter Matheson: ::and yeah, it would be nice to have some help:::
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Grits her teeth, knowing their own reinforcements are still probably 20 minutes out.::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ... A fortnight ago, armed mercenaries overwhelmed one of our shipyards where these ships were undergoing refits and stolen them. Our intelligence also believes this also might have been an inside job. But regardless, we can assist au in disabling these stolen ships.
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Looks back at the Captain.::
Hunter Matheson: ::thinks do it... do it... do it:::
Cptn Ja'Lale: tr'Kavik> Like your vessels, ours are equipped with a fail safe that will drop their shields and shut down their power in a such an event in this. With your permission, we'd like to use one of your communication buoys to amplify the signal to shut down the ships. In return, we only ask that you tow them to the neutral zone so that we can tractor them and bring back to Romulus to face justice for their crimes.
Hunter Matheson: :::still dodging the rogue ships:::
Dvokr chim Hok: :: waits ::
Hunter Matheson: ::turns to the skipper::: Will it disable their weapons?
Cptn Ja'Lale: Ja'LAle> Of course, admiral. ::Kal:: It should, if it shuts down their power.
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: Challenger is hit with another volley. Shields are down to 18% with more hull breaches. +tr'Kavik+ If you could hurry, that would be nice!
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Wonders how they know about the fail safe, but now is not the time.::
Hunter Matheson: Moving out!
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: Kavik's ship broadcasts the signal. The enemy fleet stops dead in their tracks and go dark.
Hunter Matheson: ::blink::
Dyan Sylvanis: :;Sighs::
Cptn Ja'Lale: +Fleet+ Ja'Lale to Starfleet vessels, please do as the admiral requested and tractor them to the Neutral Zone.
Cptn Ja'Lale: I don't think we're in a position to tractor anything ::dryly to the bridge::
Hunter Matheson: Aye, sir. With you on that one.
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Nods.:: Agreed.
Caitlin Townshend: ::looks around at what's left of the bridge::
Hunter Matheson: Permission to move out, Captain.
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: The bridge has gone to emergency lighting with two bulkheads and a mess of exposed wires shooting out sparks. One ensign is already on hand with a fire extinguisher putting out a small flame from one of the terminals.
Dvokr chim Hok: :: Looks at the damage to Challenger ::
Hunter Matheson: ::his hands are trembling:::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ::nods:: As best as you can, Hunter.
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Coughs a little as she wipes off her console.::
Hunter Matheson: Aye, sir. ::coughs at the smoke and burning electronics::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: The rest of the Federation ships tow the dead warbirds and BOPs to the NZ. The Romulan fleet of 10, tractor onto them.
Hunter Matheson: ::limps the ship away from the rest:: That's all she's got, Captain. Permission to go to stationkeeping.
Cptn Ja'Lale: Tr'Kavik>. I'm sorry we hadn't arrived sooner. Our intelligence only just directed us to your position, in addition to the distress call from your outpost we intercepted.
Cptn Ja'Lale: Tr'Kavik>. Jolan tru. ::cuts comm::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: The Romulans with the enemy ships in tow, turn back to Romulus and depart
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Sighs in relief.:: No hostile contacts on the grid.
Hunter Matheson: ::keeping her as steady as possible::
Hunter Matheson: ::coughs from the fumes::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ACTION: Challenger is hailed from the star base.
Dvokr chim Hok: The base is hailing us
Cptn Ja'Lale: On screen.
Dvokr chim Hok: :: does so ::
Cptn Ja'Lale: SB> +Challenger+ Thanks a lot for your help, Captain. We really do appreciate it. Our shipyard took a massive hit, but I think we can rebuild pretty quick. I don't know how they found out we were building experimental cloak vessels but they knew where to hit. No doubt this will severely set back this project.
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Looking at the Captain for a minute, and then to Kal.::
Hunter Matheson: :::head in hands, he's resting on the helm console:::
Cptn Ja'Lale: Starbase> ::a man in an admiral's uniform is on screen:: I've been informed by Starfleet HQ to tell you that you're to be towed back to Earth to undergo repairs. The ships in the fleet here will help tow you back.
Hunter Matheson: ::mutters::: all this for building cloaked ships...
Cptn Ja'Lale: Admiral>. It's best not to ask questions... if you know what I mean. ::notes Kal fidgeting::
Cptn Ja'Lale: ::sighs:: Well, I look forward to overseeing repairs. ::unenthusiastically::
Hunter Matheson: ::looks up to the familiar voice and nods to the admiral:::
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Looks to the others, then to the screen.:: Admiral, if I may. You should check your computer databases to make sure they weren't compromised.
Hunter Matheson: ::gives the admiral a semi salute knowing that he won't mind::
Dyan Sylvanis: ::Thinking this whole thing was staged to begin with.::
Cptn Ja'Lale: Admiral>. ::looks at his operations officer and nods:: Not so fast on that captain. I've been authorized to inform you that the Daystrom Institute has accepted your application as Chair of Research for their Astro-Science division. They want you to report there as soon as possible. ::to Kal:: Yes, Lt we have some people on it already.
Hunter Matheson: ::half grin with a nod:::
Dyan Sylvanis: huh? ::Looks to Ja'Lale again.::
Cptn Ja'Lale: Admiral>. Starfleet has already assigned replacement CO and XO. They will meet you once you've arrived on Earth. Good luck with your new role captain. We'll miss you, that's for sure.
Cptn Ja'Lale: ::nods:: It was a while ago, but I did apply for an opening there. I didn't think I got the role, but it looks like they just took their time with the application process.
Dyan Sylvanis: The timing was impeccable.
Hunter Matheson: (w) ::Syl, a little sadness creeping into his tone:: I'll be back in the teams.
Cptn Ja'Lale: Admiral> Starbase 38 out. Good luck and godspeed Challenger.
Dvokr chim Hok: :: checking things ::
Cptn Ja'Lale: (And for the final time....)
Cptn Ja'Lale: END SIM
Cptn Ja'Lale: END SIM
Dyan Sylvanis: ::paused::
Chirakis: :::applause::: Well done, Challenger. Fair winds and following seas.
Hunter Matheson: done
Dvokr chim Hok: nice
Cptn Ja'Lale: Okay, well that does it. I would like to thank you all for sticking with Challenger so long. Some of you have been here from the start 14 years ago. It's been a good run, and I hope you've enjoyed your time here.
Cptn Ja'Lale: It's been a pleasure to serve as CO for 10 years. It was a great run.
Hunter Matheson: Thanks Captain.
Dvokr chim Hok: Was really good
Hunter Matheson: SYOTOS
Cptn Ja'Lale: If you can, please do try to do some closing logs. It would be nice to see what your characters will do next—stay on the ship or move on as well. I'll post one soon as well.
Dyan Sylvanis: It was a great run. So many memories, from the Enterprise era to our present time.
Cptn Ja'Lale: Thanks to everyone. See some of you on Aegis... and If you're not there already please do consider joining them, It is a good sim.
Cptn Ja'Lale: Yes, indeed.
Dyan Sylvanis: And getting arrested numerous times on a previous life.
Cptn Ja'Lale: lol I remember
Chirakis: I'll be moving over
Cptn Ja'Lale: Well, if there's nothing else then sim is dismissed!
Dvokr chim Hok: Night all well wishes
Dyan Sylvanis: night night all. See you out there.
Cptn Ja'Lale: May the winds forever be on your backs
Cptn Ja'Lale: Goodnight everyone!
