Travis Kroells

Serpents Venom

“Serpents Venom”…Kroells logs (log 50)

“Small Victories”/Year anniversary series part 3 of 3

Present day…

Travis instantly left the bridge after the senor staff meeting in the conference room.  His head was racing; he didn’t have time to talk with any one.  If that was the probe that Fred believed it to be, well then…he’d have to find some way to defend against it…

He entered his quarters, he looked out the window…it finally sunk in, the stars were different…25,000 light years…he didn’t even have time to compare and contrast, the ship quickly went to warp, on a wild goose chase per Travis’s suggestion…

He stood by the window, watching the stars bend, sailing by at an incredible speed… “Computer, do I have any new messages prior to our recent course change?”

The screen behind him beeped, and whirred, digging through the data he had stored… “Affirmative, you have two video messages.”

Travis sighed as he sat down on the couch, and turned the video monitor, “Computer, play first message.”

The screen went blank…and a Ferengi’s face filled up the screen.  “Testing, testing…Is this damn thing on?  Oh, hey Kroells, its Mogg…wait this is a video message,” Travis began to laugh; the fact that Mogg couldn’t work any technology outside of the ops station amazed him. “Yea, yer probably wondering why I’m sending this message, considering it’ll take couple of days just to reach you all the way over in the beta quadrant.  Well I’m being court martialed for stupid stuff, and it looks like I might just be booted out of Starfleet, I’m not really allowed to send any more messages, so I’ll hit you up latter, see ya.”

Travis sighed, and collapsed into the couch…Mogg getting the can…They joked about it during the academy…but they never thought it could actually happened…The computer beeped again as Travis sat up, not really expecting the message to be much.

“Son…I don’t know how to say this….”  Travis turned away as his fathers face appeared…ready to turn the thing off.  “They found your mothers body…The planet where we thought she crashed was part of an archeological dig.  They were in the western hemisphere when they found the bodies…they think she was alive at least a week before they died…I know you wont come back…at least not with me on Earth…For all it’s worth the funeral’s on Stardate 0311.01.”

Travis hit his knees as the computer screen went blank and turned off…He couldn’t think…put any thing together…How could it be…some where in the back oh his mind…for the last 20 years, he thought that there was just a chance of her being alive… “They think she was alive at least a week before they died…” If Starfleet had just kept looking!  There might have been a chance!

Travis took off his commbadge, and closed his hand around it as tightly as he could…the blood quickly began to run off his hand as it spattered on the carpet, staining it… “God damn bastards!!!” He screamed as he chucked the bloodied badge across the room, it hitting a wall and shattering.

“How could they let it happen…?”  He lied down on the ground…the tears streaming down his face, 20 years of hurt, and life without a mother flooding back… “Computer…lights 0%”

A small beep was heard…as the room went black…in the background a cat could be heard meowing…begging for supper…he’d get himself… always did…Travis lied there…his hand staining the carpet even more…and for each drop of blood, there was a thousand memories that some one should have been there for…
