Christie Farron

A Farron Log: "Gimme a Break"

Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Christina Farron

Exobiology & Neurology Specialist

USS Manticore    NCC-5852

Christie had continued to load crates, one on top of the other, until she just couldn't fit anymore on the hovercart. "An engineering marvel," Christie mumbled, talking about the hovercart. It made work so simple, and she barely had to do anything. All Christie had to do was push the cart in any direction, and it would move... with a braking system built into the hovercart. She had no idea how it worked, but she was just glad it did.

Until it didn't.

As one of the anti-gravity units on the bottom of the hovercart failed, boxes began falling down toward the ground; several of them breaking open. Christie looked at the mess for a moment, and quickly moved to place the tops and siding back onto the crates. She also managed to get a small glimpse of what was inside the crates before a superior officer showed up, relieving her to go and package up a new hovercart, and continue loading several of the docked ships at the station. The officer actually picked up everything that had fallen out himself, and then had signaled the cleanup crew to do the rest.

With the small glimpse Christie got inside the crate, she saw nothing of any value to the mission. A box a phasers, a few tricorders, ancient console material... it was all worthless toward the mission. Christie continued with her work, and went on to loading another hovercart.

She was one of the few Manticore officers left in this section of the cargo bay. Claire had been called away to someone's office, and Christie was virtually on her own.

She looked at the timer on the wall. "Good," she said, noting the time. It was almost break time, and she would head toward one of the several meeting places for the Manticore crew, to discuss what they had seen during the previous 10 hours of floor duty. Of course, they had to continue being discrete about their meetings. No one on the Manticore crew could risk being caught, and Christie knew she was going to have to be less obvious to the trained eye. In reality, she could easily be caught. In fact, Christie was surprised Claire hadn't told her to be quiet, and to stop talking about the mission while... on duty. But, Christie knew better, also. She would only discuss important matters, if the time and place allowed, and would not bring up anything that might risk the mission.

Christie continued on, hearing the bell signaling the end of her first 10-hour shift. The hovercart had barely any crates on it, so she left it where she was at.
