The heavy Hand of A9

I for one would like to thank A-9 for closing such topics that involve anything that has to do with Pon Farr and Britney Spears. Here Here!

secondly a word of adivce to my fellow STSF'ers if it involves sex or anything poltically charged please just don;t waste your time...A-9 Lightin' Bolts ain't gonna miss

Well there is nothing wrong with sex and politically charged as long as it remains at a PG rating and is civil for there are some politically charged topics out there that have remained civil and A9 sees that :P

Seriously, I'd love to read it - and not just because I don't have a life.  (I do pretend I'm a Star Trek character after all.)  Please E-mail it as an attachment to [email protected]

What's wrong with Pon Farr?  It's Star Trek, ain't it?  I mean Star Trek doesn't exactly avoid discussion of sex with characters like Kirk, Riker, 7 of 9, and T'Pol, do they?  Or Yar and Data hooking up?  Or Kira and Ezri hooking up?  Or Crusher and Troi talking about what makes their toes curl?  Or a love sceen with Riker and Troi?  These are all things that happened in Star Trek, and I can point to specific episodes if necessary.  Sex is certainly one topic that Star Trek has NEVER shyed away from.

Sure youngsters look at this board.  But youngsters watch Star Trek too.

Hey there,

Just keep in mind, A9 isn't the only one with a heavy hand in monitoring the boards. Don't blame him for everything now. :P

While Im all for the idea of keeping "mature" subjects such as sex at a pg minimum, you should also relise that the internet shouldnt be censored.  You can choose not to look at adult sites, just as easily as you can chose to ignore topics you dont like.

Half the time I dont read a topic, because I think its either stupid, or is likly to be locked any way.

Only does the internet desearve to be censored, when you dont have a choice at what you look at.

Remember that this is a private site, not a public one. The person who pays for it is the one who gets to choose what they do with it. If they want it to be censored, so be it. If they want it to be pink with the Starfleet emblem morphing into a purple bunny rabbit, thats their decision.

The forum leaders really do have to maintain a balance. How do they make their adult simmers happy, yet still maintain a safe and friendly environment both for adults and for young children, some as young as 11, who want to sim in STSF.

Not only that but our affiliation with ST.com alone means we need to maintain standards. Can't just let anyone and everyone say all they want.

I think the difference here is government censorship of the net, and private self-censorship. The former I disagree with, and the latter I'm all for.

Dumbass has a point if your not mature enough for startrek can you be mature enough for this site. The answer is yes you do not need to watch star trek to sim it I sure there are people here who just like simming and hate the show. They probably came from some LOTR sim or something but they do exist :P

::Sighs and shakes his head::

Thats why I said the internet.  If the GM's want to go on a power trip, and censor what ever...Theres nothing we can do about it.

And if it does come to the point, where I truly believe my rights are being infringed, then I have no reason to stay here.

Getting Back on Track,

What Vex Said here absolutely correct. Whether its a private message board (as is this one) or a private business, the owners make the decisions on what is permitted and what isn't.

That said, I must also add I am against Government censorship.  But obviously...this isn't a .gov site. Therefore their (and Fred is right...A9 is not the only one who can close topics) right to close topics I respect.

Here's my two cents on this:    I'm here to have fun simming in my favorite other universe: Star Trek.  Some of my teammembers may be as young as 12 years old.  I am absolutely of adult years.  If I have to get explicit, I have a problem!  There's plenty of other places one can go on the internet for that.  Yeah, ENT recently had a steamy T'Pol going into a Pon Farr (sp?) in the docon room, where every one's always hot and sweaty and scantily clad.  But it's on TV.  This is interactional with real, live, young people.  It's vastly different.  Any adult who needs to so interact with youths...needs a heavy handed deletion !!

Also, AOL and other sources have child protection devices.  If parents find this site unsuitable, they can block the kids from playing here.  It's not about censorship, it's about who we want to be, and who we want to be good for.  If we want to be welcoming 12 year olds, we have to be ready to accept certain codes of behavior.  If we want to be an adult only site, that's different.  It's a definite, absolute difference.  One side of the fence, or the other.  I'm really happy that I found a site like this ... one that respects youth, and allows adults to live young at heart.
