Assistant Science Officer's Log - Sivuk

Duty Log, Stardate 500209.28

Sivuk of Vulcan

Assistant Science Officer

USS Raeant NCC 3345-G

Dr. Matthews and I have been investigating what the Poy have described as "a neurological disorder" that has affected fifteen of their population. It would seem that their advanced technology would have given them an adequate diagnosis and treatment, but for some reason they are stymied and have asked us for assistance.  To complicate the matter, the Mji have sent a quantity of medicine which is supposed to "cure" the malady, and both the Poy and the Mji are using an independent station in the Jera System, Freedom Station, as neutral territory.  The station is run by a most inhospitable (if not hostile) person by the name of Manager Grep.  His hostility towards the Federation is evident in his speech and his mannerisms, and, were I human, I would find him quite objectionable.

Several points in the investigation have puzzled me.  Chief among these is the result of long-range scans of the system and close scans of the station that show no pathogenic reason for the neurological disorder, which, according to the Poy, is debilitating.  When Dr. Matthews and I examined the "medication" which the Mji have so conveniently produced, we found a white powder, similar to acetylsalacitic acid, commonly called aspirin.  It is an anti-inflamatory still used in some cultures for the treatment of several ailments, including what the humans call "headaches."

Our investigations aboard the station continue, but are hampered by the hostility of the station manager, which forces us to sample contents surreptitiously.
