I'd love to see the sources on this...as I've personally seen reports recently showing they've confirmed the one million estimate when giving consideration to the fact Japan didn't really have a solid difference between "civilian" and "military" personnel. :P

yeah, there are stories of entire islands in japan commiting mass suicide jumping off cliffs rather then being taken prisoner by the Americans

To say that all Japanese civilians were "fight to the death" is a racial stereotype. Not all japanese people were interested in war...and by the time bomb was dropped, japans resources were already exhausted. Japanese people are no different than Americans or Germans or anyone else. The general population does not like war, and not all were "brainwashed" by their emperor...again its a stereotype.

 

There are LOTs of stories...but those are extremists and get most of the attention. Were there public protests of the war in Japan? Of course not. But to say that all the japanese would meet the american invasion force and throw themselves as cannon fodder just to avoid a surrender is just incorrect.

 

We have a lot of set perceptions of germans and japanese during that time period. Why? I think its because we're the ones writing the history books :P

There were Germans who helped hide Jewish people. Most wars are not supported by all in the society look at vietnam for example a lot of people agreed and a lot didn't. You can't judge a book by the country it was printed in :P

When you look at Star Trek: Nemesis your first thought is that Shinzon is Picard's Nemesis but is that really the case for if you'll notice they never mention Shinzon as Picard's Nemesis in the entire file. Could the title Nemesis actually be about Shinzon's plight to gain vengence on the Romulans for cloning him and giving him a horrible life in the mines aswell as the enslavement of the Remans and on the Federation for giving the Romulans reason to do so also for being something Picard loves and Shinzon hate Picard because aslong as Picard lives Shinzon is not an individual but a mere clone to Picard and the fact that Picard had a better life then he. So Nemesis has a double meaning which shows the entire concempt of the film ingeniousily hidden in words most people would not know or be able to figure out. :D

I was thinking that same thing.  It seems very comical to me that a movie which at the time haad no idea Arnold would go into politics, is coming true.  Before we know it there will be an admendment to the constitution allowing aliens to be president and before you know it, there it will be: The Schwarzenegger Library" ::D:

I actually agree with this. There should be an amendment allowing non-natural born citizens to take the presidential office. I mean they can hold every other office in our government. Its really a stab in the back to the "American Dream" if you ask me.

 

Imagine...Schwarzenegger comes out of Austria poor, hits it big in body competitions, becomes a huge movie star and makes millions of dollars, and eventually becomes president. That's what I call a land of opportunity   :D

Now that's something worth fighting for! Arnie for president! i don't know why all the television shows like letterman are putting him down so badly. He's just doing what Reagen did and what ventura did they should back off a little cos he is a pretty nice guy.
