I think its great. I disagreed with the recall (I think an elected official has the right to fill his/her term unless they do something illegal). But good for Arnold. Most elections are all about popularity contests anyway. When I was rooting for Gore, a lot of the polls said many of those who didnt like him felt he was emotionless and rigid...whats that got to do with his policy right?

Whether he's an actor or not is irrelevent. People come from all sorts of professions and enter politics. I think people were just putting way too much pressure on him when he first announced he was running. Since it was his first attempt to get into politics, I think it was excessive to expect him to start preaching about every policy position, especially when he has advisors most likely telling him not to say anything until he's had time to really figure everything out.

I'll be interested in seeing how Schwarzenegger does and if he gets reelected. This move makes sense for him...I watched T1 right before going to T3, and you could really tell the age difference. His acting career is winding down, I think the last good movie he had was True Lies.

Cute pic though. You should have had "California Governor" instead of "Cop" with all the little "kids" being the citizens of CA crawling over him with his new 'people' policy.

:::reading the want ads:::

I better start looking for a new job.. Arnie thinks state employees should be on minimum wage until the budget crisis is over.. or work for free. Yeah.. I'll work for free when he gives up part of his salary.

Actually I can't take credit for the pic.  A friend of mine sent it to me last night.  I don't know where he got it.

That IS a thought! What if he dumped his salary into the budget to help it along.

I mean...its Arnold Schwarzenegger...he probably uses the gov paycheck to pay his house staff.

On the plus side, which is about the only one I can think of, the whole California and Arnold thing did lead to a humorous ad for AOL that features my state's former governor, Jesse Ventura going "Man, they'll allow anyone to be governor there."

I'm surprised I haven't heard from Kroells yet, given the **** I gave him about Ventura.

Arnold should not have won because he is an actor. He'll sign anything (especially with Warren Buffet at his side) that will plunge the budget shortfalls in to trillions of dollars.

Now that my political stuff is out, let me just say that the ad above is a piece of ****!  :P    :D

Interesting you should say that actors should not run for political office.  You could say that for just about any occupation.  But then who does that leave except for people who are already politicians?  And isn't that the problem to begin with?

Although I joke about it a lot, what happened in California, with so many candidates from a variety of backgrounds, is not only exactly what the Founding Fathers predicted would happen but actually WANTED to happen.  They didn't want to see a political class that perpetually empowers itself.  They wanted to create a system where someone who is not a professional politician would be elected to office, serve for a term or two, and then go back to what they did before.  Certainly Arnold is closer to this ideal than Davis who has been part of California politics for 20 years.

And I would sign anything Warren Buffet set in front of me just because it's Warren Buffet.  Berkshire Hathaway, the company Buffet is chairman of, is known for conservative, time-proven investments and annual reports that tell it like it is, even to the point where Buffet himself admits it when he screws something up and takes personal blame for it.  How many Chairmen and CEOs have that kind of (explative deleted)?

There is one reason why exprience in politics can be dangerous, they have more exprience in how to manipulate the people :P

For the most part I've always believed the politicians ability to "manipulate" people is based mostly on the lack of knowledge on the citizen's part.

An interesting historical bit of info I recently learned; Truman, 3 years after dropping the atomic bombs on Japan, made a statement that he did so in order to save 1 million American lives, the projected casualties of an American invasion of Japan. Documentation that is now available shows the projections that were reported to Truman, yet the highest number was around 90,000 casualties I think. He made up 1 million to justify his decision to America. One of his secretarys recently wrote a book describing the whole thing, "The Decision to Drop the Bomb", interesting reading the cliffnotes but the book itself is huge, LOL. It also says in there that the real reason to drop the bomb was to prove to the Soviets that we had it. Once Germany was out of the picture, along with Japan, the SU was the most prominent threat to America. Russia had really been getting the bad end of the stick in the allied campaign in WWII, so its not far fetched that America considered their ally their enemy. SU was enemies to Germany, our enemy's enemy is our friend, sort of thing.

I read a report that said most Americans still believe we had to drop the bomb on Japan to force them to surrender.

Anyway...its just interesting to note that people really need to do their research and not trust their politicians blindly. If they just follow the leader without thinking for themselves, they are right to be manipulated - and thats what most politicians want - blind loyalty.

Didnt mean to get into a history lesson, but I recently read about this book and thought it was very interesting. I won't go into WMDs :P

I agree with you Vex for when you look at the massive loss of life and long term sickness that as to this day still plagues Japan. Not to mention the shape that survivors we in it looked like the holocaust sort of makes you think are we any better killing and torturing innocent civilians?

"The Decision to Drop the Bomb"

reminds me of the title "Dr. Strangelove: Or how i learned to stop worrying and love the bomb"

But going back to the point the real reason the past atrocoties of hiroshima and nagasaki can go down in history books as justified or even victories is the fact that ALMOST every time, the winners write the history books. The only exceptions to this rule are wars fought in places where the "enemy" hasn't had a chance to get their view out to the rest of the world. Vietnam for instance, hidden behind the iron curtain.

Ya know i've gone so far off the original topic it's just odd. I might as well start talking about my weekend now.
