USS Republic Mission Briefing  51706.19 – Season 25

 

As the charges were presented for all to hear and consider, Admiral Calvert asked for a plea from Ms Kasuga, to which she gave a surprising 'Guilty" to all charges.

 

Incredulous, BluRox has asked to approach the bench, and Lt Medley was requested to join them. Blu asking...if she were qualified to defend this case.

STSF Seiben: ::seated in her chair, still out of it and looking sullen and resigned::

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley> ::glares at Blu before turning to Admiral Calvert:: Admiral, if I could have a word with my client, please?

STSF_BluRox: :: Watches as Ayumu retakes her seat and turns back to Medley: I think you need to have several words. How long did you discuss the charges with her?

STSF Seiben: ::still sounded sudden, sighs:: I don't know anymore...

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley> I haven't had a chance to speak to her prior to entering the proceedings. It's highly unusual to allow proceedings to move forward without the accused a moment to consult with council. But perhaps that's the way you do things on Republic.

STSF Seiben: Seiben> ::watches from the back:: She looks so resigned... ::to nobody in particular, quietly to himself::

STSF_BluRox: Excuse me!? How dare you?! You were brought in late, due to the person who 'was' to defend her, having to recuse herself, as someone had named her as a possible involved party. You should have put that before us, BEFORE you let your client plead guilty.

Heather Jamieson: :: Looks on, very depressed and shocked ::

Randy Calvert: Talk to your client, Lieutenant. These are serious charges and I'm not going to hear them again.

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley> Understood, Admiral. ::nods to Calvert::

Randy Calvert: Make sure she understands the potential consequences.

Randy Calvert: :::leans back in his chair, thinking he might need a break for another drink:::

STSF_BluRox: Admiral.....with Wydown having to recuse, I believe they've not had a proper chance to prepare. May we give them a 2 day recess, so that they can go over the facts and prepare?

 

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley>::moves back over to the table::

Heather Jamieson: :: Can't speak to Kasuga, but wonders what is going on? Did she throw her career? ::

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley> I would not object to a recess as I've just been assigned the case. Although 2 days seems excessive.

 

STSF_BluRox: Name the time you need then.

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley> Just give us an hour, please. So that I can confirm with my client.

Randy Calvert: Granted... this session stands in recess for one hour.

Randy Calvert: I thought at least they would offer up guilty with circumstances.

STSF_BluRox: It's possible, as I said, that wasn't like her at all... then again, they've been under a great deal of stress, having just dealt with that alien....it had already killed 23 people.... my away team thought we were next

STSF_BluRox: I even gave her the brief my 2nd in command prepared for me, so she would have all the facts....and no, I'm not trying to throw the trial Admiral.....but with the time allowance, I want to make sure my crewman gets a 'fair' trial

STSF Seiben: I've heard stories. But seeing how my crew defended me, that does make me feel a bit better. It's all so much, I'm not thinking clearly.

STSF_BluRox: How experienced "is" this JAG officer from the station? She seems young

Randy Calvert: We were all at one point in time. ::: laughs lightly :::

Randy Calvert: She’s been here a little under a year. Like them all, they come in looking to make a name for themselves and think justice is clear shades of black and white

 

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley They're claiming that you've willfully disregarded Star Fleet Law and the speed limit that your ship had just set?.

STSF Seiben: That's right. I increased speed to warp 8, where the limit was warp 5. I'm not sure how I was able to do that, as there should've been fail safes in place to prevent me from doing that. The nav computer was programmed to recognize the speed limit.

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley> When was the last diagnostics run on the computers?

STSF Seiben: ::thinks:: A few months ago, I believe? You'd probably have to confirm with Commander Jax, our Chief Engineering Officer.

 

Randy Calvert: They pick up some real-world experience and move onto bigger and better things.

STSF_BluRox: Yes....... unfortunately, it's more like many shades of gray......

Randy Calvert: ((At least 50))

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley>Is that normal?

STSF Seiben: For the nav computer to let us go over the limit? No, I never had that happen to me before.

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley> All right. What about this careless disregard for the sentient creatures?

STSF Seiben: The sentient creature that already killed 23 people? It wasn't intentional, but as you can imagine, it was quite scary.. I think I may have been too eager to escape as I was concerned it might go back on its word and kills us anyway, though I don't have any evidence to support that, just my emotions.

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley> Mental distress isn't a concrete defense. Think carefully. Why did you not react in a timely manner to correct the errors?

 

STSF_BluRox: Tell you what Admiral. I need to review a few notes myself, let me go do that, and I'll let you catch up with your station business for a bit before we re-convene

STSF Seiben: I wasn't aware we past warp 5 until the emergency braking system kicked in. Usually, I would set in a programmed speed, warp 5 into the navigational computer and the auto-pilot would maintain that speed, like cruise control in old Terran vehicles. But this time, it seems that the auto-pilot didn't maintain the ship at warp 5. I know I set the speed to warp 5 when I was given the order to depart.

STSF Seiben: The ship accelerated too quickly for me to notice and stop or slow the ship down manually.

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley> Are there others that can testify to these facts?

STSF_BluRox: (Night Admiral)

STSF Seiben: Lt. Jamieson was on the bridge with me, and as mentioned Cdr Jax might be able to confirm technical facts such as state of repair

STSF_BluRox: (, due  to the tear, we were setting buoys lowering even that speed, it had been 5, when the freighter sped through there)

Rue Wydown: Lt Medley>What about the accusation of insubordination?

I'll post this up as soon as possible, work with the chat Ayumu from last weeks and this weeks chatlog, many hints were given how to go forward with what you and I had discussed
