How are things going?

29 posts in this topic

Hey everyone...

I just wanted to open the floor to check in to see how our Cadets are enjoying their expierence in Starfleet Academy.

Is it what you were expecting?  Are you finding yourself building your SIMming skills?  Are the GMs helpful and approachable?

Let us know what you think.  :)

GM's are awesome, juss that Wednesday's sim was kinda confusing  ???  (not the GM's fault) partly becuz helm was losing control every 1.5 minutes and was ENG was near failure and for some reason we were being attacked by figments of our imaginations, while the GMs kept trying to tell us the ship was at 100%, some people aren't good listeners, lol, I think it got messed up partially becuz everyone was trying to be the action poster, but otherwise every sim has been cool

Well an important thing to keep in mind about the Academies is that there are people who are learning. It takes patience and time, but eventually most do get it. That isn't to say some don't try to take over.... it happens sometimes. But, there are more people who are new to the game that it takes them some time to get the rules and flow of the game down. So it's good for everyone to keep in mind that more of the time people are just new to the game.

Players in the game like yourself and others, help them by interacting with them, following the rules, and being really patient. When you and others follow the rules, you set an example for the new members. Be it the new people are playing the game for the millionth time, or the first. Academies are going to be chaotic, there are going to be days like Wednesday where it's going to be a bumpy ride, and then other days where the sim will glide with little to no problem at all. That is part of the fun about the Academies.

Overall when in doubt or having trouble, talk to us (the GMs) and let us know. If you don't say anything, we can't help you because we just don't know. The more informed you guys keep us, the more likely we are to be able to help you out. Be it here, or during the sims.

Thanks for the input VileRomulan.

Who else would like to add in their opinion? :)

Do I get a speech like yours as my response, Lightning? :)

Kidding......

I suppose I can add my feelings to it.

Of course, as Lightning said, a lot of the Academies are, well, interesting. My personal favorite is when someones console blows up, and a GM writes an " ACTION: So&so's Console did not blow up. We not at war. " I might be the only person who thinks those are funny actions, but, oh well.

Anyway, the Academies are fun, and fairly easy to use. It is even better than what I was expecting, my SIMming skills are improving, and all of the GMs with hair are very helpful. :o Just kidding, A9. You are helpful in your youth every time I see you. :P

HD (Oh, boy. I am so going to get a nasty PM for this post.....)

PM?   Naaah, let's do a public flogging!!

BTW, as much as I'd like to look as cool as Patrick Stewart, I'm not bald, balding or thinning on top, I just have ::sigh:: hair.

As for ACTIONs, my favorite one that I toss out, occasionally, on Manticore is this one.

ACTION: NOTHING HAPPENS

oooohhhh!  A good 'ol fashioned public flogging!  It's been years since we've had one we could all enjoy.

And my favorite action would have to be:

ACTION:  The ship was destroyed because you were stupid.

(BTW...  name the movie and who said it: "The Defense Department regrets to inform you that your son is dead because he was stupid.")

Hehehe, I once read a web page that stated that Admiral Kathryn Janeway was teh best of the five main Star Trek Captains because she had the most hair out of all the other Captain's combined. Hehehehe, talk about a very logical argument.  :o

I find the use of SGV (special guest villains) Fun..

These Guests...often nefarious GMs who run academies on other dates  :) Make the cadets face a skilled simmer, and create a team enviornment in order to survive. (of course with Fred...Survival isn't an option   :o

Precip.....the simmer who usually ends up like a bugsmear on a ships viewscreen when all goes to heck...

You should be glad I don't run many Academy SIMs much anymore...  back in the day when I did...  the ship was guarenteed to be destroyed 3/4th of the time...  with all hands lost.

I was quite famous for blowing up ships just for the heck of it.  :)  But alas...  times change.  With the slowing economy, A9 just would not give me the budget for special effects and new ships each week.    :o

Oh well.  There is always next year!!    ::P:

LOL Yep, A9.... this one deserves nothing *but* a public flogging. ;D

::is capable of writing a speach about public flogging, and also is *really* good about writing paragraph upon paragraph about nothing or the same thing over, and over, and over.... it's best to not encourage me:: ;P

ROFL! I remember someone you actually earned the title "Booming Bohm" when I was in the Academy. I think he blew up his ships 110% of the time. If the Away Team was on a shuttle when the ship exploded, the shuttle would get hit by debris and explode.

My best thought on an ACTION?

ACTION: We Find The Planet Is Occupied By Friendly People Seeking Peace. There Are No Secret Agendas, No Plans To Steal Technology. They Just Want To Get Along.

nothing to do with this thread,  -- although I am suddenly reminded of how long it's been since I blew up a ship, hmm... -- but does anyone else find they have to highlight the glowing text to be able to read it, or is it just my display somehow?

I can read it without highlighting it, but it is very hard.

Wow...  I always said he could be a monster at times.  I just never realized how close I was.  :)

I would hate to have to be him and have to shave in the morning....

::giggles:: I remember the days of cadet also. Though someone did get the handle of "Killer KBear" for a while because cadets constantly ran into the infamous no win situation. Again, and again, and again....

Ahh... back in the days when living through Academy was seen as a privlidge and not a right.

Good to see some still keep up the tradition! <eg>

::makes mental note of a possible way to change the Wednesday Academy, and then fades out of sight before she gets hit by someone:: ;)
