USS Excalibur Sim Log - 10.09.16

MISSION BRIEF: The Excalibur has arrived outside the Gamma Quadrant terminus of the wormhole, where a combined fleet of Federation, Romulan, Klingon, Bajoran, Al-Ucard and now a Scorpiad warship have taken up a defensive position in an attempt to prevent a faction of rogue Jem'Hadar from using a sub-space weapon. Long-range sensors have detected a grouping of Dominion vessels on long range sensors. They appear to be holding just outside of our range.

William Chocox -> ::is in engineering::

Maryse Dubois -> ::On the bridge for the moment, but that might change soon.::

Rhan K'hal -> :: at the aux tactical station opposite the 2nd chair, with all the holographic display elements set up and monitoring them ::

Hunter Matheson -> ::at helm::

Rhan K'hal -> :: frowns at the dots representing the Jem'Hadar fleet :: I suppose their 1st is giving them the pre-charge pep talk. Not to mention picking apart our fleet disposition for the weak spot.

William Chocox -> Damage control teams report ready Commander.

Hunter Matheson -> Helm ready, Commander.

Hunter Matheson -> ::glances to Gaither for verification::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Chocox:: Thank you. ::has managed to avoid pacing for 6.3 minutes now::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::While she was on the bridge, where she *technically* belonged, Miranda found it difficult to stay put. She really wanted to be in engineering, monitoring their progress and the risky maneuver they might soon be pulling.::

Cptn Swain -> ::On the bridge, drinking tea::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Chocox:: How about the other thing?

Hunter Matheson -> :steady, even breathing as he waits:::

William Chocox -> It's ready.

Rhan K'hal -> :: speaking of dispositions, checks the dots belonging to the 310th to make sure they're still settled ::

Rhan K'hal -> :: satisfied, leans back on the rail and watches, waits ::

Hunter Matheson -> :relaxed focus:::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::throws up some data on the display:: Greg and I have come up with some improvements to the intercept torpedo

Cptn Swain -> What's our status?

William Chocox -> Alright

Tandaris Admiran -> Took forever to get him to work on wormhole calculations. He kept muttering something about "inchoate voodoo". I think the artificial wormhole gives him the willies.

William Chocox -> Why?

Rhan K'hal -> We're deployed in position with the overall fleet. The 310 is deployed. All departments have reported their readiness within the last 30 minutes. Jem'Hadar fleet continues to hold on the edge of long range sensors.

Hunter Matheson -> ::he has a fleeting thought about "Ours not to reason why...."::

Tandaris Admiran -> If you were as proud of your mastery of subspace technology as the Scorpiads are, would _you_ like to be neighbors to an artificially-created wormhole by beings that transcend time and space?

William Chocox -> I guess not.

Cptn Swain -> :Frowns, takes a drink of tea::

Rhan K'hal -> :: slow, metronomic tail swish ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::She breathed in sharply.:: What are they waiting for?

Hunter Matheson -> It's a mind game, ma'am. ::Hawthorne::

Hunter Matheson -> Typical tactic to get us unnerved.

Cptn Swain -> More forces?

William Chocox -> So what's the plan again?

Rhan K'hal -> I imagine they're also recalculating their tactics a bit with the Al-Ucard and a powerful Scorpiad warship on hand. If they had expected to go against Alpha Quadrant forces only that would be a wrinkle.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Chocox:: The bulk of the fleet will engage their fleet.

Tandaris Admiran -> We expect a smaller portion of their fleet to try to break through and reach the wormhole

Maryse Dubois -> Maybe the Jem'Hadar are waiting on their orders. If it was just up to them, they would have struck by now.

Tandaris Admiran -> We'll hopefully be there to stop them.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Well, it is working. ::To Hunter. She glanced at Swain.:: I certainly hope not. We have our hands full, already.

Cptn Swain -> ::Nods::

William Chocox -> Sounds good.

Rhan K'hal -> :: swish... swoosh... swish... swoosh... swish.. swoosh... ::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Notices the tail going.::

Hunter Matheson -> ::Hawthorne:: Best sit back and relax until they make a move, Commander. Anticipating makes it worse. Worst thing is to attack first. Let them attack, then you can decipher their tactics.

Hunter Matheson -> Just like hand-to-hand, ma'am. Wait for your opponent's move.

Hunter Matheson -> Watch his eyes.

Hunter Matheson -> In this case... the eyes are probably in the second wave.

Hunter Matheson -> ::mutters:: I sure wouldn't put 'em in the first wave. That's how you learn their tactics.

Hunter Matheson -> Or.. the opposition's tactics.

Rhan K'hal -> :: calmly amused as his tail continues to slowly go back and forth ::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Nods.:: I'm sure they will want us to guess which one has the device and reveal it last second, when it's too late.

Hunter Matheson -> ::Doc:: Whichever has the device should have a different signature than the others. Weapons tend to do that.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::reviewing his notes from his jam session with Greg::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::She drummed her fingers on the armrest.:: If we get through this, I think I'm going to have you run a hand-to-hand class, Matheson. I'm a bit rusty on fighting tactics.

Hunter Matheson -> Think Commander Admiran could probably figure out which one it is.

Hunter Matheson -> ::nods:: We'll get through, ma'am. No doubt about it.

Rhan K'hal -> :: eyes calmly continue to sweep his holographic tactical displays, the hunter waiting for the herd to to move into position for the hunt to start ::

William Chocox -> How was your conversation with Greg?

Cptn Swain -> ::Finishes his tea and returns to his chair::

Maryse Dubois -> Signatures can also be faked. At least I hope in this case they aren't.

Cptn Swain -> The waiting is the worst thing.

Hunter Matheson -> Another point: never doubt your ability to win. Doubting lowers your chances. ::nods to Swain:: Waiting it hard, sir, but doable.

Hunter Matheson -> Think of it as playing chess.

Hunter Matheson -> Sit tight, look your opponent in the eye, and let him get unnerved. ::grin::

Tandaris Admiran -> Counter-productive, for the most part. He is not very happy with me.

Tandaris Admiran -> But he provided some insights that may give us an edge.

Rhan K'hal -> :: thinks "except in chess you don't usually have the position of losing meaning you can't go home and have a 10K+ light year trip home" ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::She grumbled.:: I was always terrible at holo-chess. I was better at rigging the board so I could win.

William Chocox -> That's good. I don't care what he thinks as long as it helps us win.

Hunter Matheson -> ::Rigging the board works, too::

Hunter Matheson -> ::passing thought:::

Cptn Swain -> ::Smirks::

Tandaris Admiran -> I basically promised that if we survive this I'll leave the quadrant and never bother him again

Rhan K'hal -> :: swish... swoosh... swish... swoosh... ::

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> Sensors detect movement in the fleet.

Hunter Matheson -> ::enjoying the rhythmic swoosh::

Hunter Matheson -> (hm... enjoying)

Rhan K'hal -> :: tail stops, ears turn back :: We've got some movement

Hunter Matheson -> (but it sounds the same)

William Chocox -> How's that going to work? The Excalibur has been assigned to the Gamma quadrant for awhile now hasn't it?

Hunter Matheson -> ::Gaither:: Stand by.

Rhan K'hal -> :: leans forward at alert, watching to see exactly what's going on ::

Tandaris Admiran -> ((Enjohment is the form of meditation Hunter practises when waiting for combat to start))

Cptn Swain -> ::Lifts a brow:: Bring up the tactical display.

Hunter Matheson -> (works)

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> Signal from fleet command to move into formation Alpha 5

Hunter Matheson -> (Pretty heavy accent, though)

Rhan K'hal -> :: alters the front holo-view and expands the scope to include the tactical overview ::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::just shrugs enigmatically at Chocox::

Rhan K'hal -> Incoming orders: form Alpha 5

Cptn Swain -> Bring us into position.

William Chocox -> Alrighty then.

Hunter Matheson -> Bringing us into Alpha 5, aye. ::swings around, slipping into place:::

Rhan K'hal -> :: updates the tacdisp to show the where-the-pieces-go dots for the good guys ::

William Chocox -> Or are you just hoping to never see him again?

Tandaris Admiran -> Yeah, I think that feeling is mutual

Tandaris Admiran -> Looks like we're moving

William Chocox -> We are.

Hunter Matheson -> In position, Captain.

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> Rogue Fleet is moving towards the fleet, but remaining out of weapons.

Hunter Matheson -> ::watching the helm sensor board for contact:::

Rhan K'hal -> :: with the tactical display now up, doesn't bother to give the play-by-play ::

Maryse Dubois -> Looks like it's getting ready to start...

Rhan K'hal -> The start of the dance...

Cptn Swain -> +Tandaris+ The fleet is moving into position. Where are you and Captain Click on a solution?

Hunter Matheson -> ::NIP:: Suggest strapping in. This could get dicey.

Rhan K'hal -> Sure you don't want your foam back, Gunny?

Tandaris Admiran -> "Captain Click"?? Wish I'd thought of that ... +Swain+ Captain, we've made several enhancements to our plan that increase the chance of success.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Gives a little giggle.::

Hunter Matheson -> No, sir. Would rather be able to see and manipulate the board. ::smirk::

Cptn Swain -> +Tandaris+ Good, because it looks like the Jem'Hadar are getting tired of waiting for us.

Maryse Dubois -> Looks like I should go take my place. ::Starts towards the lift.::

Rhan K'hal -> Be safe, Doc.

Hunter Matheson -> ::guessing they don't like mind games either::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Turns and smiles.:: Do the same. ::Doors close.:: Sickbay.

William Chocox -> What's got their panties in a wad?

Victria -> ACTION> At the first sign of movement from the Jem'Hadar, the Al-Ucardian vessels powered up shields and weaponry. Apparently tired of waiting, they shot off in formation to meet the enemy. First strike!

Rhan K'hal -> (( :: is now imagining a Jem'Hadar in lacy panties, may have brain malfunction :: ))

Tandaris Admiran -> They might be perturbed by your anachronistic use of gendered insults.

Rhan K'hal -> The Al-Ucard never go for subtlety, do they.

Maryse Dubois -> ((::facepalm::))

Tandaris Admiran -> But more likely, I suspect they have decided this is the optimum time to attack.

William Chocox -> I see.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Arrives in sickbay after a short TL ride.::

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The communications light up with incoming messages as fleet command, being directed by the Constantine tries to get a handle on the situation.

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The Jem'Hadar fleet splinters as the Al-Ucard plunge into them.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::Watching on the viewer, she stiffened.:: What in the... !

Rhan K'hal -> :: winces, turns the volume down on his Caitian style ear dongle ::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::begins inputting several modifications to the lateral sensor array::

Cptn Swain -> Oh for the love of god.

Rhan K'hal -> :: NIP :: I think the chess game just got turned into a rugby match.

Cptn Swain -> @Corizon> ::Cackling on the bridge of his ship::

William Chocox -> ::looks over his console::

Hunter Matheson -> ::waiting, he nods::

Tandaris Admiran -> +K'hal+ Admiran to K'hal. Our reluctant Scorpiad ally gave me some ideas on how we can detect the subspace weapon even if its dormant aboard a Jem'Hadar ship. I'm modifying the sensors to help with this. If we get within 200,000 km of the weapon we should be able to detect which ship it's on.

Cptn Swain -> Have our escorts form onto our wings, our job is to play goal keeper.

Cptn Swain -> ::Nods:: If you detect the signal, we'll break and make a run for it.

Rhan K'hal -> +Admiran+ If it works, I'll stop mentally stop swearing at his very existence.

Rhan K'hal -> :: relays the orders to the escorts ::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Makes sure her staff has their orders, and then moves to an empty bed.::

Rhan K'hal -> 200K is pretty close, Cap. We'll still want an intelligence advantage if we can find one.

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> A wing of Jem'Hadar fighters makes its way towards us. The Romulan and Klingon wings are engaging at near point blank with a group of battleships.

William Chocox -> 200,000?

Hunter Matheson -> ::consulting with Gaither on strategies for that contingency:::

Rhan K'hal -> Incoming.

Hunter Matheson -> ::ready for goalkeeper:::

Victria -> ACTION> The black of space lit with a brilliant display of red and blue weapon's fire. The Al-Ucardian Nightstalker ships were much faster than the Jem'Hadar and favored avoidance and misdirection in their attacks.

Hunter Matheson -> ::watching their spread angle:::

Cptn Swain -> Tactical, fire at will

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::Miranda touched her comm.:: +Medical+ Doctor, prepare yourself for wounded. We are about to engage the enemy.

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> Rhan, could we use sensor probes to boost our scanning range?

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> In all the mess the Dominion wouldn't even notice them.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Chocox:: I wish I could extend it further, but the problem is picking up false positives.

Maryse Dubois -> +Miranda+ We are all set down here, Commander.

William Chocox -> Makes sense.

Hunter Matheson -> ::keeping the opposition's target in line with them, they calculate the best defense positions for goalie::

Rhan K'hal -> The specific modifications that Cdr Admiran made wouldn't be set up in the probes but it would gives a potential for detecting some stray particle emissions that we were relying on before.

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The big Galaxy and Sovereign-class starships were joining the Romulan and Klingon wings in battle, which seemed to be going fairly well.

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> Could give us more of a chance.

Hunter Matheson -> ::so much for Alpha 5 formation:::

Cptn Swain -> << Everyone give me a number 1-20 >>

Rhan K'hal -> I'll take all the data I can get, Ithene.

Rhan K'hal -> (( 2 ))

Hunter Matheson -> 7

William Chocox -> ((16))

Maryse Dubois -> ((Aye aye aye aye aye... Sorry had to do it.))

Maryse Dubois -> ((8))

Tandaris Admiran -> ((9))

William Chocox -> ((::feels he may have made a grave mistake going high::))

Hunter Matheson -> (Sure you want to use the word "grave"?)

William Chocox -> ((I know what I said. :p Maybe I shouldn't have, but I did.))

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> Additional Jem'Hadar forces are on long range sensors, the battle is at an even pitch at the moment, four small groups have broken off the main fleet and are heading towards the area we believe to be the launching range of the weapon.
