USS Excalibur Sim Log - 09.11.16

MISSION BRIEF: Swain has returned to Excalibur and called together select members of senior staff for an updated briefing. Outside, there has been a flurry of activity as the refugee and evacuation effort have hit a fevered pace.

Rhan K'hal -> :: in the conference room, waiting to hear what's up ::

Cptn Swain -> ::In the conference room, waiting for everyone to arrive::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Takes her seat at the table.::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::enters the conference room, presumably with young N'Dak in tow, munching on another one of those cookie things::

Cptn Swain -> Oh good, we're all here. I've already updated the Commander on the situation. She'll be briefing Commander d'Aubugine separately.

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> ::lifts a brow at Tandaris eating a cookie::

Rhan K'hal -> :: nods ::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::sits down next to Ithene:: I'd forgotten how good these things are. Probably going to have to let my uniform out. Again.

Cptn Swain -> I'll keep this brief, but I thought everyone should know before the scuttle gets too out of controll.

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> ::looks at the cookie suspiciously::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Doesn't like the sound of this. A frown already begins to form.::

Rhan K'hal -> :: cocks an ear; would've called the scuttle out of control already ::

Cptn Swain -> We have received... credible intelligence on where the rogue Jem'hadar are going to attempt to use their weapon.

Rhan K'hal -> If I were a Ferengi, I'd bet 10 bars of latinum on the wormhole.

Cptn Swain -> I wouldn't take the suckers bet.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Nods in agreement with Rhan.::

Cptn Swain -> It was our highest priority location, but we could not rule anything out.

Rhan K'hal -> So, we hurry the civilians along through the wormhole and then attempt to keep it from getting blown to smithereens? Or whatever the proper scientific word for that would be. :: glance at Ithene ::

Cptn Swain -> That is the general plan, yes.

Maryse Dubois -> I can see why you would want to keep this quiet. If the refugees found out their only means of escape could be threatened...

Rhan K'hal -> :: ironically is calmer about this scenario than the last few he'd been thrust into ::

Cptn Swain -> But at this time we're not sure of the enemy strength. Neither of the Dominion Vorta or what we received from another source were able to accurately assess the strength of the enemy. Fleet is moving a number of vessels into position at both ends of the Wormhole. The Romulan and Klingon governments have also deployed additional resources and the even the Bajoran military has dispatched vessels.

Cptn Swain -> ::Frowns:: But we still don't know if we'd be able to stop the weapon. ::Looks at Tandaris:: I understand we've been working on that, Commander?

Tandaris Admiran -> Welllllll

Tandaris Admiran -> Yes.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::sighs, pushes back his chair and activates the display:: We've tried, simulated, discarded dozens of scenarios.

Rhan K'hal -> :: swivels to the screen, looks ::

Tandaris Admiran -> Ideally, of course, we would like to stop the Jem'Hadar from deploying the weapon at all. If we can do that, we won't need to gamble on any of these plans.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Watching the display.::

Tandaris Admiran -> If the Jem'Hadar deploy the weapon, we'll be forced to attempt one of a series of countermeasures that have, frankly, a poor probability of success. At best, we'll see premature detonation of the weapon before it reaches the wormhole.

Tandaris Admiran -> This would still devastate the nearby volume of space, which will have far-reaching consequences for any future travel to and from the Gamma Quadrant via the wormhole.

Rhan K'hal -> So for them, close is good enough.

Tandaris Admiran -> Sadly, when your intention is to sow chaos …

Cptn Swain -> ::Frowns::

Tandaris Admiran -> We do have _one_ plan with a better probability of success, but it will be much more difficult to carry out, not to mention legally questionable.

Rhan K'hal -> :: cocks his ears ::

Cptn Swain -> I've advised command of your work, and the Admiral has given you the go ahead to use whatever station bound resources you need. ::Pauses::

Cptn Swain -> Go on.

Arrenhe tr'Khev -> @ :: not knowing the depth of the problem, is working to get the rest of the Oullalians off with this round of refugees; using t'Jaelik like a whipping boy when necessary to get it done ::

Tandaris Admiran -> We can construct a smaller, less powerful subspace weapon using a torpedo casing, and then detonate it in the path of the Jem'Hadar weapon. It would create a tear in subspace large enough to disrupt the Jem'Hadar weapon, neutralizing its potential to destroy subspace or the wormhole, but not so large that it would jeopardize warp travel in this region or the wormhole's stability.

Rhan K'hal -> :: chuffs out a single, jaded laugh ::

Rhan K'hal -> How big and fast is the Jem'Hadar weapon likely to be? Not to disparage our own abilities, but our torpedo tracking isn't really designed to hit small, fast-moving targets.

Tandaris Admiran -> That's a reasonable concern, but in this case we don't have to hit the weapon. We just have to match its trajectory.

Rhan K'hal -> :: nods :: So, plan #1, try to blow them all to hell before they can shoot it off. Plan #2, fight fire with fire. Gods I hate this quadrant.

Tandaris Admiran -> It's actually a good thing the wormhole is the target in this case.

Tandaris Admiran -> For the device to have maximum effect, it should be detonated within the wormhole. That constrains the Jem'Hadar's delivery methods and gives us a smaller playing field.

Tandaris Admiran -> There are also side-effects of the verteron nodes within the wormhole that we can exploit, if it comes to neutralizing the weapon within the wormhole.

Rhan K'hal -> :: nods :: Let's hope it won't come to that.

Maryse Dubois -> We could always pray to the Prophets to save us... ::Sarcastic tone.::

Rhan K'hal -> (( it'll come to that, this is Excalibur ))

Tandaris Admiran -> I considered attempting to contact the wormhole aliens and enlist their help in neutralizing the weapon, if it comes to that.

Rhan K'hal -> They might have enough of a vested interest to interfere. Most beings don't like it when you try to blow up their house.

Cptn Swain -> ::Considers:: Well, I'd like you to put together a full briefing of your plan Tandaris and then present it to command.

Cptn Swain -> Until then, I want everyone to be prepping for battle.

KVorlag -> # :::enroute from the wormhole:::

Rhan K'hal -> Not much left for Operations to do on that score, I've been proceeding on the idea that was coming. At this point all departments should have the supplies they're gonna get.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Nods.::

Rhan K'hal -> :: looks at Tandaris :: Though I imagine you'll have a few extra coming over after they rubber stamp your plan. Let me know what you need when you know.

Tandaris Admiran -> Right.

Rhan K'hal -> :: swivels back to look at Swain, waits ::

Cptn Swain -> ::Nods::

Cptn Swain -> Well, I have nothing else. Keep a cool head and keep doing what you have been doing.

Cptn Swain -> I can't say, enough, how proud I am of you all.

Rhan K'hal -> :: grins :: You're not so bad yourself, Cap.

Cptn Swain -> ::Smiles:: Thanks.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Smiles.::

KVorlag -> # :::on the bridge of the bird of prey, on approach to Camelot:::

Rhan K'hal -> Though I wouldn't complain if Corizon came along to do the shooting. I swear I had to fill an order for diapers, our security department is so young.

Cptn Swain -> ::Snorts:: Captain Corizon will be commanding a vessel.

Rhan K'hal -> Ah, well.

Cptn Corizon -> @::IN the Round table working on fleet deployments::

Rhan K'hal -> :: turns to Maryse :: Need to head straight back to sickbay or do you have time for :: checks the chrono :: whatever meal we're due for, first?

Maryse Dubois -> ::Nods.:: I have time.

Rhan K'hal -> :: grins :: Great.

KVorlag -> # :::lets the bridge crew do all the protocols for arrival:::

Rhan K'hal -> :: rises, stretches :: Not going to get many more chances for a relaxing dinner before we're oppressed by alert status. I think the Holy Grail is still open, do you want to head over there?

Cptn Swain -> ::Glances over:: Something you wanted to talk about Commander?

Maryse Dubois -> ::Gets up, walking towards the door.:: Sure, sounds like a plan.

Tandaris Admiran -> Yes, Captain.

Tandaris Admiran -> There is another power in the Gamma Quadrant with an extensive knowledge of subspace technology.

Rhan K'hal -> :: exits the conference room, heads to the lift with Maryse ::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Hops on the lift.::

Rhan K'hal -> Is it scary that the possibility of a huge battle and the wormhole blowing up seems more preferrable than the crazy things we've been doing lately?

Rhan K'hal -> :: orders the lift to the proper airlock deck ::

Cptn Swain -> ::Frowns:: Yes. The Scorpiad.

KVorlag -> # :::hearing that docking procedures are complete, gives his regards to the HoD and departs:::

Maryse Dubois -> Seems all we do is crazy. Though if we had been able to stop them in time, we wouldn't have to worry about the wormhole blowing up.

Rhan K'hal -> We're not miracle workers. :: smiles :: Extremely improbably event workers, but not miracles.

Maryse Dubois -> ((Yay he made it. Missed our fun staff meeting, Kal.))

Tandaris Admiran -> I know they've largely remained quiescent lately. But it might be worth a try sending a message toward Scorpiad space.

Hunter Matheson -> (Sweet. Just got in.)

Cptn Swain -> ::Frowns more deeply:: I think that might be above our paygrade...

Cptn Swain -> ::thoughtfully:: I am not saying not to do it, mind you.

KVorlag -> # :::steps onto the Klingon transporter pad:::

Rhan K'hal -> (( I need to scoot, I've got an early morning ))

Cptn Swain -> (( no probs... wrapping up now ))

KVorlag -> :::materializes in the Command Center Transporter:::

Cptn Swain -> ::Stands:: I was going to get some coffee. Why don't you join Captain Corizon and I in an hour or so and we'll work on your presentation to the Admiral?

Tandaris Admiran -> Sounds good

KVorlag -> @ :::going through protocols and credentials on the station:::

Cptn Swain -> ::Nods::

KVorlag -> @ :::ushered toward the entrance to the Round Table:::

Cptn Swain -> ...and...

Cptn Corizon -> @ Governor.
