How do I know what rank I am and need help?

I was wondering what rank I would be, because I just started a few days ago and I would like to know how to do the role playing more, since I read the different topics. ???

Hey there,

First, welcome to STSF! :D

Second, everyone starts out at the rank of "Cadet." In order to learn more about how to play the game, there's two things you should do. First, read the "Help" section above. That will give you the basics of how to play. Second, look at the STSF schedule. Find an Academy sim that fits your schedule. Head over to startrek.com and attend when the game is running. :)

It's that simple. Hope this helps and hope to see you in the Academy! :)

Welcome to STSF Pittykitty, and to answer your question.

You should read the getting started section on the homepage.  It will give you some basic information about what we do, and more importantly how we do it...((dirty thoughts Ruca!))

As for your rank, you'll have to attened STSF's nightly academy, and sim with other "cadets"  A GM will eventually graduate you, and you'll reach the rank of ensign, or midshipman (if you join aegis)

Then you'll get an email, with the choice to join an STSF ship of your choice, and enter what ever department you'd like.  But remember, some ships rosters might be full, and the department you like might not be avalible.

I also sugest checking out some of the advanced sims, and seeing how they play, many GM's have a different style, some you might like, some you might not.

Feel free to send me a privite message if you'd like to talk more.

Hi Kitty.

1)  Welcome to STSF.

2)  As a chat name you can choose any rank you like.  We have had cadets as Lt, Cmdr, and Admiral.

3)  Your ACTUAL rank, however, is Cadet until you graduate the Academy.  Once you graduate you become an Ensign.  As others have said you become a Midshipman if you join the Sky Harbor Aegis sim but this is the only sim that has a rank lower than Ensign.  (This I never understood, since at the US Naval Academy the rank for cadets *is* Midshipman.)

4)  I was going to say something here, but I was out drinking tonight and can barely type as it is.

5)  Most likely, upon graduation, you will be assigned as an Assistant something or other.  It is not impossible to be assigned as a Chief of something as an Ensign/Midshipman. but it is very rare and it's a right-place-at-right-time kinda thing.

Start at the bottom and take it slow, cadet.

Trust me...it only takes maybe a year or two at the most to make LtCdr. After that you'll be back in the academies starting over just for the fun of it :D

You mean like Geordi LaForge?  Didn't he go from Ensign to Lieutenant Commander in a single season?

Yeah, something like that, I guess. I went from Ensign to Commander in 4 months in another sim I'm on. :D

Hey there,

Well, I know some sims can take numerous years to reach the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Some take a year. Honestly depends on where you are. :D

Honestly, Cadet, take you time and then after a few sims, go at full attack speed. That is the strategy of me (sort of)

Plus, check out Tuesday's Academy. It is at 9:00/8:00 Central and is done by two of the nicest GM's I have met of all time. STSF Jami and Jorlis. They are great and do great sims. I'm there almost all the time.

One last thing that I say to all cadets is that we hold all sims at the chatrooms on Startrek.com. You will need a account in order to participate. Not just because it is required (mumbles something), but it is easier to identify you. That is all and good luck. Hope to see you at the Academy!

Tuesday night are definately the nights for academies.  They are a lot of fun.  And the cool thing about graduating is you can always go back and have fun in the academies.  I haven't been there in a while, but I do agree Jami and Jorlis are tons of fun!

::waves to Jami and Jorlis:: hope to see you guys agian soon.  And maybe get some more of that tea Jorlis.  :D

Yeah...I remember when I was a cadet. I sent the email to [email protected], and then I wondered why Freddy never got my application.

Oh...And then I saw my Pips.
