USS Excalibur Sim Log - 11.15.15

MISSION BRIEF: Last week, Excalibur and the fleet learned that due to the escalating violence in the Gamma Quadrant, the Federation Council and Starfleet have begun evacuations of non-essential personnel, and are drawing up evacuation plans for the various colonies and outposts in the region. The Bajoran colony on New Bajor, where our fleet was formerly headed is among those, and so, we have instead altered course for the wormhole. We are currently in a holding pattern outside the terminus, near the former construction site of Starbase Lyonesse, prepping the fleet for the passage through the wormhole.

cptn swain -> BEING SIM

cptn swain -> BEGIN SIM

Rhan K'hal -> :: on the bridge, contemplating cows... er, ships ::

Hunter Matheson -> ::holding in the holding pattern::

Jas -> ::patrolling and keeping an eye on things in the cargo bay::

cptn swain -> ::On the bridge, looking grim::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::going over the latest status report on the emergency refit process—it's not good::

Maryse Dubois -> ((I forgot what tbs was.))

Rhan K'hal -> :: no one in particular :: I don't suppose we could pop our head in the wormhole and ask the Prophets to widen things a bit.

cptn swain -> ((A week and half ))

Maryse Dubois -> ((Oh right))

William Chocox -> So, what's up now Commander?

Hunter Matheson -> (full convoy at the terminus, or just Excal?)

cptn swain -> (( Full convoy, and some assorted additional traffic of people getting the heck out of dodge ))

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Chocox:: Three other teams have reported problems improving the SIF on some of these transports. Two more have installed the modifications but blown out the power grids on their ships.

cptn swain -> ::Drinking tea, as usual, trying not to pace and largely failing::

Maryse Dubois -> ::In a cargo bay checking on everyone. People seemed to be in low spirits since supplies had to be rationed with the additional time in travel.::

cptn swain -> How restless are the natives>

Maryse Dubois -> ::Frowns and exits the bay, heading to a TL.::

William Chocox -> That's not good.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> ::Everyone had settled down to a point where their security officers kept it from coming to blows. Extra patrols helped, but they weren't short on fear and anger lately.::

cptn swain -> Ithene> ::The change of plans had worked somewhat in her teams favor, as it gave them longer to study, catalog, and the prepare the variety of plants and animals that they had taken with them from the planet, but now they had a slightly different bag of cats in that settling these people on an even more alien world could be tricky.::

Rhan K'hal -> Thousands and thousands of people, packed in hip to hip on old smelly transports... I doubt I have to spell it out in flaming letters on the side of a mountain.

William Chocox -> ((Someone remind me what SIF is?))

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Extremely restless. ::Glancing to Swain.:: I've gotten multiple reports from security on the issue. The increase in travel time hasn't helped. Nor the fact that we aren't equipped for this long of a run with this many people.

Jas -> ::stops near the exit of the cargo bay after what has seemed like dozens of rounds and stands sentry there with a tired look::

Tandaris Admiran -> ((Structural integrity field))

William Chocox -> ((Danke.))

Maryse Dubois -> :;Steps out onto the bridge. She walks over to K'hal, PADD in hand.::

William Chocox -> Anything we can do?

Maryse Dubois -> ((Keeps us from going squish on the wall.))

cptn swain -> ::Frowns, sips tea:: The Bajorans are remaining firm in their promise to assist in resettlement,but they're insistent that we can't plop them down on one of their many habitable moons.

Rhan K'hal -> :: looks over :: What can I do for you Doc? Or, I should say, what would you like me to do and likely not be able to do much about?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> ::He paused near Jas, leaning with one hand on the wall.:: How long you been on duty, ensign? You look dead on your feet.

cptn swain -> I have continued to express the opinion that we can't just leave them in transports for another month while said suitable home is found.

Maryse Dubois -> :;Smiles, handing him the PADD.:: Supply requisitions. See if any of the other ships in the fleet have a surplus on food and rations. We're running low.

cptn swain -> Their leaders are... somehow happier about the idea of resettling 45,000 ly away from the Dominion though.

Hunter Matheson -> ::maneuvering the ship in this holding pattern wouldn't be so bad if the convoy wasn't in the equation, but since he can't do anything about that, he coordinates with the rest of the 'Fleet vessels to keep them herded, sort of:::

cptn swain -> ::Miranda:: How long until we're ready to start taking them through?

Rhan K'hal -> :: sighs :: So is everyone, Doc. We were already pushing the envelope when we were just taking them to New Bajor. I'll ask around, but don't expect much.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Chocox:: Take over coordinating here while I go talk to K'hal about some … alternatives.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Nods.:: Thanks.

William Chocox -> Aye sir.

Hunter Matheson -> ::semi talking to Wasp's helm, calculating who should take point and who should hang back, pretty glad it's not their call::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::grabs a PADD, tapping on it as he leaves engineering:: Computer, where is Lt K'hal?

Maryse Dubois -> ::Takes a seat at an empty console for a moment to rest.::

William Chocox -> ::takes over the coordination duties::

Rhan K'hal -> :: pops off a communiqué to the rest of the fleet and convoy asking about supply availability ::

Jas -> ::looks to Klein with a confused expression for a brief moment before shaking his head a bit and standing up straighter:: I, uh -- about eleven hours now. Smith is off duty and Markenson is still in sickbay after that scuffle with those refugees, so I've been patrolling double time.

Rhan K'hal -> Comupter> The requested individual is located on the bridge.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> The first wave of ships should be going through the wormhole in a matter of minutes. ::Looks to the screen briefly.:: I assume we're going to be last in the queue or somewhere near the end.

Tandaris Admiran -> Rather formal today, aren't we, computer? ::enters TL:: Bridge.

cptn swain -> ::Nods:: Good.

cptn swain -> We'll be the last one through.

Rhan K'hal -> :: almost immediately gets the professional version of raucous laughter back from the Starfleet ships, replies come in more slowly from the civilian ships ::

Hunter Matheson -> ::overhearing the convo on the bridge, his mind calculates several options, then hears they will be be on the backside:::

cptn swain -> I talked to Arden this morning. ::to Miranda:: They're... busy.

Hunter Matheson -> ::which probably means that Wasp drew the short straw::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::enters bridge::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Can see negotiations aren't going well.::

cptn swain -> They have more refugees than they know what to do with. The Hundred has apparently offered to help, but as you can imagine, the refugees are a bit hesitant to trust them.

Rhan K'hal -> :: glances over at Maryse :: Not looking good, and with ships starting to go through soon we'll be running out of options. I assume you're already at a wall with the replication?

cptn swain -> ACTION> The first-wave of transports heads to the wormhole.

Maryse Dubois -> That's ok Rhan. Maybe we can get some supplies from DS9. Yeah replicators can't keep up with demand.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> Well grab a crate and at least sit down. I assume you haven't had a hot meal, either? ::He waved to one of the yeomen that were helping out in the makeshift refugee camp and gave him an order, sending the man scurrying.::

Rhan K'hal -> That's probably the best you can hope for.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::nods at Maryse:: When you two are done, I need to talk to you, Rhan.

Rhan K'hal -> :: nods at Tandy :: Of course, Commander.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Smiles.:: He's all yours

cptn swain -> ::Miranda, lowly, knowing the Cait might hear, but hoping he was distracted.:: Our orders are likely going to be to cut the convoy loose and let DS9 deal with it, but that will mean heading back to Camelot.

Rhan K'hal -> :: Maryse :: I have the call out, if someone does find a few cans of chow somewhere I'll see that you get it, doc.

William Chocox -> ::keeps working at the computer coordinating::

cptn swain -> ::Miranda:: Arden said they're worried that one of our colonies could be hit in the cross-fire any day now and if that happens.

Maryse Dubois -> Thanks. ::Gets up from her chair and walks over to the railing overlooking the bridge. She watches as ships start entering the wormhole.::

Jas -> ::nods tiredly and drags the closest crate over before sitting on it with a sigh:: No, not for a while. How far are we from getting these people to safety?

Rhan K'hal -> :: Tandy :: So, what would you like that I likely can't do anything about?

Hunter Matheson -> ::swivels his chair toward the doc:: Ma'am?

Tandaris Admiran -> ::K'hal:: I want to offload all the passengers from these freighters. ::hands K'hal a list::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Nods at Hunter.:: Just watching the view.

Hunter Matheson -> I have a few cases of energy bars in my quarters. Keep 'em there out of habit. Take 'em if you need 'em.

Rhan K'hal -> I'm sure the passengers from those freighters would love to get off too. The question is how soon. With you, I'm almost afraid to get to asking why. :: looks over the list ::

Maryse Dubois -> Thanks for the offer, I may have to take you up on that later if things don't turn for the better.

Hunter Matheson -> Yes, ma'am. ::swivels back:: View isn't much, is it?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> That's always a potential worry. ::Slight frown as she glanced back to Swain.:: I don't like risking the ship and crew, putting us back into the fire, but... at the same time... I don't think we should leave while we have officers in the GQ.

Hunter Matheson -> Don't imagine it'll get better any time soon.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> We're at the wormhole, just waiting for our turn to get through. Hopefully we can get these people settled in a new place soon.

cptn swain -> ::Nods:: Arden thinks that as soon we can, we might be withdrawing from the Gamma Quadrant entirely. Leaving this place to its own devices. ::Looks at the view screen as the wormhole opens, casting light towards the hulk of Lyonesse station.:: A dream deferred.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Yeoman> ::Trots up with a mug of hot soup and an energy bar for both Jas and Klein.::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::K'hal:: I can't guarantee those freighters will make it through the wormhole.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Watches the swirling colors of the wormhole.::

Tandaris Admiran -> I would like to abandon them altogether, but I doubt anyone else would swing for that. So I have an alternative proposal: if the freighters are empty, we don't have to shore up the SIF so much.

Jas -> ::takes the soup and energy bar with a grateful smile:: Thank you very much, this is exactly what I needed.

Tandaris Admiran -> We can autopilot them through the wormhole, and if they make it to the other side, repair them at DS9 and then continue using them for transport.

cptn swain -> ::Miranda:: If we are going back, I want to have the ship fully loaded and supplied. Arden said they're starting to get stretched thin at Camelot with so many refugees and the whole fleet more or less back.

Hunter Matheson -> ::catching bits of the bridge convo:::

cptn swain -> I'll leave that to you to do... quietly.

Rhan K'hal -> Sounds perfectly reasonable. Assuming I can figure out how to redistribute approximately 1,600 people on ships that are already full to bursting. :: sigh ::

William Chocox -> Oh my goodness, this is insanity.

Tandaris Admiran -> They only have to make it through the wormhole. Pack 'em in like … like those fish humans are so fond of.

Tandaris Admiran -> Carp. Pack 'em in like carp.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Where are we going to get those? Isn't DS9 going to be stretched thin? Or will be soon enough. Are we meeting supply ships when we get there? ::Still speaking softly.::

Rhan K'hal -> :: snorts out a laugh, knowing better having been born and raised on Earth ::

Rhan K'hal -> Lemme see what I can do. I assume your teams will make sure the autopilot on them works so we don't have freighters pinballing between verteron nodes?

cptn swain -> ::Smirks, wryly:: You have my permission to use... /unofficial/ channels. Mister Valorn tells me you used to be rather... resourceful.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> Me, too. I get busy and forget to eat when things get hectic like this. Typical for the workaholic, I guess.

Hunter Matheson -> ::swivels again, when he gets a chance, to K'hal and Admiran:: Sirs?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::She quirked an eyebrow.:: Used to be? Huh.

Rhan K'hal -> :: begins looking up where he can start stuffing refugees ::

Tandaris Admiran -> Piloting through the wormhole is—::Hunter:: Yes?

Rhan K'hal -> Yeah, Gunny?

cptn swain -> ::Grins, over his tea:: She wasn't sure if you're lost your touch with that red uni.

Hunter Matheson -> Just overheard your conversation, and, even if it's not exactly as much as you need, we have a few runabouts in the bay. They might be useful, at least for some.

Hunter Matheson -> I'm going to say that, judging from the other Fleet ships, they probably have a few as well.

Rhan K'hal -> Oh believe me, if I have to pack them in torpedo tubes and shoot them through the wormhole I will.

William Chocox -> ((That's usually ill-advised.))

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::She snorted.:: Since I've been on Excalibur, I haven't had the time to wash my hands clean of the grime. I doubt I'll ever be as squeaky clean as you.

Hunter Matheson -> ::nod:: Aye, sir.

Jas -> ::nods a few times as he drinks from his mug:: Couldn't agree with you more. I'm looking forward to popping in to the holodeck when all's said and done.

cptn swain -> ::Drinks his tea, grinning:: I might surprise you sometime.

Rhan K'hal -> :: Tandy :: He has a point though, could always use the runabouts as pilot ships if you don't want to muck around in the freighters any more than necessary. They won't do much to help whittle down those 1,600-ish refugees

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> I have no idea when we're going to be able to breathe that easily, but I know what you mean. ::Takes several spoonfuls of soup, eating hungrily.::

Hunter Matheson -> ::resumes previous::

Rhan K'hal -> :: begins a heated text conversation with the Cape Horn and Kamakura about how many the big Galaxy classes can add for the sake of a wormhole journey ::

Tandaris Admiran -> Runabouts would definitely help. ::Hunter:: I know K'hal is already busy as it is. We shouldn't need more than the runabouts we have aboard—they can always make multiple trips. Can you set up and test the autopilot routines?

Rhan K'hal -> :: may or may not have said "I don't care if you have to make saddles and have them ride the warp core until they get to the Alpha Quadrant" ::

Jas -> What's the plan once the Excalibur is on the other side of the wormhole? ::consumes the energy bar in two large bites as he listens to Klein's response::

Hunter Matheson -> ;;looks back:: Aye, sir.

Hunter Matheson -> Set up autopilot to send them through the wormhole without a helmsman, Commander?

Rhan K'hal -> :: drags the Nebula class Prince de Austrias into it too, those big saucers are about the best he's gonna get for room as the civilian ships are already over-capacity ::

cptn swain -> ACTION> The Wormhole opens, ahead of our schedule, as a fleet of Klingon and Starfleet cruisers exit,.

Hunter Matheson -> ::his expression is cautious as he wonders if it's ever been done, thinking this might be a first and pretty iffy:::

Rhan K'hal -> :: makes a very rude noise after the fleet appears :: Like we don't already have a narrow enough space-lane at this wormhole, they send a fleet through NOW.

Hunter Matheson -> ::focus on Admiran as he notes the wormhole sucking in a few::

cptn swain -> ACTION> The fleet pauses for a moment before jumping to warp in the general direction of Camelot.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Hunter:: Yes. There should be some existing subroutines in the library. You'll just need to adjust them to handle a runabout guiding another ship

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> That hasn't come down the pipe, yet. I'm assuming that we're getting these people settled and then heading back. Don't really know, though. Command called for a complete evac of the GQ, so we might be heading back to Starfleet Command.

Rhan K'hal -> :: seems them leave before he can tell them off for being in the way, goes back to brow-beating the other ships into temporarily accepting more refugees so there aren't some very unfortunate booms going on inside the wormhole ::

Hunter Matheson -> ::takes a moment to think:: And you're talking about the freighters, right Commander?

cptn swain -> ACTION> The second wave heads to the wormhole. Leaving around 20 or so ships total in our convoy.

Rhan K'hal -> :: victorious, sends word to the freighters now that they're going to empty whether they like it or not; also sends word to the transporter rooms to begin helping with the re-distribution ::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Hunter:: Yes. There are six freighters I would like to evacuate for the trip.

Hunter Matheson -> ::his head spins at the variables involved, considering each freighter as a separate class, configuration, and age:::

cptn swain -> (( You know, the last time the wormhole featured in one our plots, we ended up in the Mirror universe... ))

William Chocox -> ::keeps coordinating along::

Hunter Matheson -> You have the specs for those vessels, sir?

William Chocox -> ((Please no.))

Rhan K'hal -> (( are you sure that'd be wise here? Mirror me would be cuddly and sweet, that would be dreadful for you all I'm sure ))

Maryse Dubois -> ((Yay Mirror!))

cptn swain -> ((I haven't considered Mirror Swain. I bet he has an eye-patch. ))

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> (( But still has a ponytail ))

Jas -> ::raises his eyebrows:: Really? At this point, I'd be happy with anything that didn't involve patrolling this cargo bay for hours.

cptn swain -> (( ofc ))

Rhan K'hal -> Okay, Commander, it's underway. Though I am now officially the most un-popular officer in this quadrant since I had to put my paw down to get things moving.

cptn swain -> (( Corizon wonders when he started winning popularity contests )

Tandaris Admiran -> ::K'hal:: Appreciate you taking that hit for me there.

cptn swain -> (( Is going to have to have rectify this with some mayhem))

Hunter Matheson -> ::sets the timer::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> ::He chuckled.:: I know the feeling. Soon, I hope. Soon. I never thought I'd miss paperwork so much. Or shooting things. Definitely shooting things. ::He took a bite of his bar and chewed thoughtfully.:: You got family anywhere you keep in touch with?

Rhan K'hal -> Ehn, they wouldn't expect anything less from me at this point.

cptn swain -> ::Over his shoulder:: You know I heard, Mister K'Hal, that the Captain of the Tears of Sully, rather likes you.

cptn swain -> Apparently, his you give him no end to joy in watching his operations officer curse you.

Rhan K'hal -> Well, glad someone's getting their jollies, anyway.

cptn swain -> It's the little things K'Hal. The little things.
