USS Excalibur Sim Log - 11.01.15

Cptn Swain -> MISSION BRIEF: The convoy of refugees has begun exiting the system. At the same time, the Dominion have arrived, ahead of schedule. One of the Bajoran transports, the Plains of Somilar (sp?) however, has had trouble with their systems and is lagging behind. The Dominion fleet will overtake them before they clear far enough to jump to warp. The Excalibur and her fighter group have fallen out of formation, putting themselves between the Dominion and PoS.

Cptn Swain -> BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain -> BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain -> BEGIN SIM

Hunter Matheson -> ::picking up where we left off:: Taking left flank of the convoy, Captain. In position.

William Chocox -> So...this doesn't seem good.

Maryse Dubois -> ::In the ICU cargo bay, trying to defuse a situation before it is made worse.::

Rhan K'hal -> :: waiting for the you know what to hit the fan ::

Cptn Swain -> ::Bites his lip:: Tactical... bring the weapons online. Raise shields. Don't target anyone.

Cptn Swain -> Helm... stand by for evasives.

Hunter Matheson -> ::configuring several exit/attack vectors, maximum firepower points, etc:: Standing my for evasive maneuvers, aye.

Hunter Matheson -> *by too

Cptn Swain -> ::He glances over to Miranda for a brief moment. He was not entirely sure of himself, but this wasn't the time for him to second guess himself. But if she had reservations, he wanted to know.::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Chocox:: We've been through worse. We just have to delay them, not defeat them.

William Chocox -> Alright...and hopefully not to stop a war.

Rhan K'hal -> Come on, come on... :: is rooting on the POS like a horse in a race ::

Jas -> ::walks in behind Lt. Klein:: Now when I said things could get more interesting...

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The rest of the fleet begins jumping to warp.

Hunter Matheson -> ::noting their quick exit::

Cptn Swain -> How long until the PoS is clear?

Rhan K'hal -> 45 seconds.

Rhan K'hal -> Dominion in weapons range in 10.

Hunter Matheson -> Steady as she goes, Captain.

Cptn Swain -> (( Rhan give me a number 1-20 ))

Rhan K'hal -> (( 17 ))

Hunter Matheson -> ::hands hover over his console::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> ::Not too comfortable with babysitting and keeps looking at the scared little girl with a touch of fear in his eyes.:: Uh... yea. They could.

William Chocox -> I'm hoping we're not trying to start a war.

Jas -> ::sarcastically:: Ha. Ha. The flashing red lights beg to differ ::pauses:: I can look after her.

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The Dominion fleet closes on the PoS, but suddenly veers off towards the planet proper. Leaving it, and us, to escape unharmed.

Rhan K'hal -> :: tail loop-de-loop :: They've passed us by, Captain, heading to Bryiom.

Cptn Swain -> ::Exhales, audibly:: Stand down red alert. As soon as the PoS is clear, follow them through to warp.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Arguing natives> ::Determined to get out of the room to find their families, but at least they were listening. Now they just seemed scared because of the alerts.::

Hunter Matheson -> ::keys in on exit vector:: Ready for warp, at your command, Captain.

Rhan K'hal -> :: nods, watches the POS limp past Bryiom's sphere of influence and shudder into warp ::

Tandaris Admiran -> Well that was anticlimactic.

Rhan K'hal -> Plains of Somhwair has gone to warp... wasn't pretty, but it managed it.

William Chocox -> Yes it was.

Rhan K'hal -> Tac> :: shuts down the red alert ::

Jas -> ::moves over to the natives, hold arms out in calming Chris-Pratt-in-Jurassic-World type manner:: Excuse me, please remain calm. Everything is under -- ::notices the red alert shut down:: -- everything is under control.

Tandaris Admiran -> I've always liked a good anticlimax, mind you.

Maryse Dubois -> Everyone please sit down and secure yourselves. Remain calm and once we are safe then we will work with you in reuniting your families.

Rhan K'hal -> :: looks over at Hunter :: That's your cue, Gunny.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> I think it'll be okay. Right, sweetie?

Hunter Matheson -> Going to warp...

Tandaris Admiran -> Now … I see some of the environmental systems are struggling under load.

Cptn Swain -> ::Nods::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Little girl> ::Her chin trembled a little and she suddenly screamed at the top of her lungs.::

Hunter Matheson -> ::shoooosh starstreaks, etc:::

Rhan K'hal -> :: gets a blip on the communications, chuckles :: Colonel Kutang sends her regrets on not achieving a glorious death today, Captain.

William Chocox -> Don't we have more people on right now?

Tandaris Admiran -> Yes

Maryse Dubois -> ::Hearing the scream, she quickly moves over towards the sound, realizing it was the little girl.:: What's wrong?

Jas -> ::looks over to the girl with confusion::

Tandaris Admiran -> So it would be inconvenient if the CO2 scrubbers failed

William Chocox -> Are they going to fail?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> I didn't do anything! ::Holds his hands up in surrender.:: I just talked to her.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Little girl> ::Seeing Maryse, she tackled the doctor's leg and clung to her, looking suspiciously at Klein and Jas.::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::gestures at some read-outs of automated diagnostic routines:: Looks like the scrubbers are fine for now, but there's some trouble upstream in the thermal regulation subsystem.

Cptn Swain -> Good work everyone.

Tandaris Admiran -> The problem with these modular Akira designs … quite handy for flexible mission profiles, but it means everything is a compromise.

Jas -> ::after a moment he chuckles at the girl with a shake of his head:: Makes sense now...

Hunter Matheson -> ::matching the speed of Wasp to rendezvous with the convoy at warp::

Cptn Swain -> Going to be a long three weeks to New Bajor. ::He frowned a little::

William Chocox -> Alright, want me to check on the thermal regulators?

Tandaris Admiran -> Yes, please. If there are any that look like they're ailing, go ahead and replace them pre-emptively.

Tandaris Admiran -> Meanwhile I'll work on improving the efficiency of the load-balancing algorithms.

Rhan K'hal -> :: keeps an eye on the slightly ragged convoy, occasionally sending the futuristic equivalent of a sheep-herder's whistle over the comms ::

Hunter Matheson -> ::doing the Maccaughey thing with his fingers, thinking::

William Chocox -> Aye sir.

William Chocox -> ::grabs his tool kit and walks out of main engineering::

Hunter Matheson -> ::or however its spelled::

Rhan K'hal -> Oh, congratulations on the Understatement of the Year Award, Captain.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Pats her head.:: It's alright. They won't hurt you. They are here to protect everyone.

Jas -> Well I don't know about this one, he's pretty scary ::nudges Lt. Klein::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Gives Jas the "not helping" look.::

Cptn Swain -> ::Smirks:: Start looking for a place to circle the wagons when the convoy's engines need a break. Normally I'd say a nebula or something but... ::frowns:: I don't know if I want to deal with the crew navigating something difficult.

Jas -> ::gives the "what?" shrug back to Maryse::

Hunter Matheson -> ::warp 4... warp 4... yeah it's going to be a long three weeks... or four.. or five::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::takes a seat at the environmental systems control and brings up the load-balancing subroutine::

Rhan K'hal -> I don't think the transports could deal with a nebula technologically, either. I'll see what I can find.

William Chocox -> Alright, let's get to work. ::starts looking over the thermal regulators::

Rhan K'hal -> :: pulls up the map, peruses ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> Hey... I'm good with kids. ::Scowls.:: Normally.

Jas -> ::grins at Klein:: Sure thing, Lt. Smiley.

Hunter Matheson -> ::nebula... smokescreen?... maybe just tow the whole lot...:::

Cptn Swain -> Miranda, you have the bridge.

Cptn Swain -> Let's just hope someone doesn't see this as a giant, moveable feast.

Rhan K'hal -> :: easier said than done after a quick look, as this area was once a stellar nursery at one time and had a lot of starts that poofed out ::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::begins by tweaking some of the default values::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> Watch it, Ensign, unless you'd like to go back to being a cadet. ::Mock scowl at Jas, then a softer look at the little girl.::

William Chocox -> ::replaces a couple of the regulators::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Little girl> ::Wasn't having it. She buried her face against Maryse's leg, clinging like a parasite.::

Hunter Matheson -> ::sometimes you gotta go back...to move forward...:::

Hunter Matheson -> ::see where you came from... how you got here... where you're going::

Jas -> ::loses the grin and shifts to straighten his posture, remaining silent::

Rhan K'hal -> Nebula, stellar formation disc, black hole, big nebula, black hole, black hole... :: sigh :: I just want a parking lot.

Hunter Matheson -> ::where are we going?.... it's there... yeah, somewhere... just gotta look in the right place...:::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::does some quick calculations optimizing for the increased number of people on board:: Hmm

Hunter Matheson -> ::parking lot.. yeah that works:::

Rhan K'hal -> :: continues flipping through options ::

Hunter Matheson -> ::then his eyes sweep the board, the parking lot in the back of his mind, somewhere... not sure where:::

Maryse Dubois -> Now now. ::Pats her head again.:: Can you two go check on some of the others. Make sure everyone is comfortable at the moment. Once I hear some news, we may let some of them look for family.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::Shifting in her seat, though not moving to the command chair, she kept her nose buried in the incoming reports from the ship and the rest of the fleet.::

Hunter Matheson -> ::Schrodinger... yeah, that's it:::

William Chocox -> ::keeps working, replacing a couple more::

Hunter Matheson -> ::quantum mechanics... huh... strange, but, you know, a lot of things are strange in this man's universe:::

Rhan K'hal -> :: rhythmic tail swishing as his finger just keeps scrolling and scrolling and scrolling ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> ::Nods to the doctor.:: Well, umm... yea... I think that'll be best. ::Eyes the little girl warily before turning to Jas, clapping him on the shoulder.:: I've got an idea. Come on, Ensign.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::frowns:: Well that's not much better, but I don't see anything else I can do.

Hunter Matheson -> ::ya take a few ships, sling a warp field around 'em, and bam, you're somewhere else:::

Jas -> ::nods to Klein and quickly follows him in step:: Right away, sir.

Hunter Matheson -> ::or maybe... you're where you were before but somehow it's different:::

Maryse Dubois -> ::Reaches in her coat pocket, pulling out a red lollipop and shows it to the girl.::

William Chocox -> ::comes in a bit later with the broken regulators:: That help at all?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Little girl> ::Sniffles and takes the candy hesitantly, looking up at Maryse.:: Sweeties?

Maryse Dubois -> ::Nods and smiles.:: Yeah. It's candy.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::runs another diagnostic:: Let's find out.

Hunter Matheson -> ::so who am I... really:::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> ::Leads Jas over to where security had set up a temporary workstation in the cargo bay.:: That little scuffle got me thinking... people here are scared because they've gone through a lot and keeping them away from their families is only going to make them even more fearful.

Hunter Matheson -> ::and what is that stuff on my fingers... that won't come off...:::

William Chocox -> Alright.

Rhan K'hal -> Hmm, binary brown dwarf system... low eccentricity... lagrange point juuust big enough to park a fleet in. I think this'll do. :: sends off to the command staff for consideration ::

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> ::Arrives on the bridge, looking rather tired.::

Hunter Matheson -> ::mystery pocket goo from that last guy I searched?...:::

Tandaris Admiran -> Looks like a 28% gain in efficiency. Not bad. That should stave off disaster.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::Glances up at Ithene's entry and smiles.:: You look beat. How did the harvest go?

Rhan K'hal -> :: continues looking for secondary and/or emergency candidates ::

Hunter Matheson -> ::...flyin' all week long, contemplatin' the important questions in life... like why can't they go past warp 4....:::

Tandaris Admiran -> I hate long escort-style missions like this.

Hunter Matheson -> ::why not... like... warp 4.593...or warp 4.147...:::

Tandaris Admiran -> Just sitting around waiting for things to break, and then getting yelled at when you don't fix it quickly enough.

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> ::Smiles, tiredly:: I've had worse days. But, it was interesting.

Jas -> ((Sorry, wifi crapped out apparently because it just wanted to))

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> Cargo bay 5 is a veritable zoo.

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> I think the Captain might also have a new friend.

Hunter Matheson -> ::and then there's the zoo... in cargo bay 5....:::

Hunter Matheson -> ::wait... zoo?::: sharp turn to the captain:::

Hunter Matheson -> ::blinkblink::back to his console::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> We need to interview everyone looking for family and cross reference those names to a roster of all the refugees on board.

William Chocox -> Why sir?

Jas -> Divide and conquer, I assume?

Hunter Matheson -> ::so why are we only going warp 4 in a warp 5 zone...:::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::Her eyebrows rose.:: All in containment, I hope. We don't need any incidents...

Rhan K'hal -> Gunny, d'A wants to bring in some of the fighters. Slide us over to port far enough away from the Emissary's Breath to fit the warp docking safety protocols.

Hunter Matheson -> ::K'hal:: Sliding to port away from EB for warp docking, aye....

Hunter Matheson -> In position in five... four ... three... two...

Hunter Matheson -> In position.

Hunter Matheson -> ::wheels down::

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> ::Nods:: Yes.

Hunter Matheson -> Running steady. Prepared for docking maneuvers.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> Yes, I think that's best. We already have a list of names in the works, but those people... ::waves a hand at the milling refugees that had tried leaving the cargo bay.:: ...we need the names of their family members.

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> Captain seems to have found some sort of bird that's taken a liking to him as well. The locals call it a Bee-trice or something like that. Looks like a three eyed raven if you ask me.

Jas -> ::nods a few times:: And, uh, how many refugees are aboard the ship, approximately?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Little girl> ::Pops the candy in her mouth and her eyes widen in surprise. Just like that, she went from sad and pitiful to mollified.::

William Chocox -> What's wrong with a mission like this?

Rhan K'hal -> Much obliged. :: gives the clear signal down to the air wing ops ::

Tandaris Admiran -> You're just sitting around waiting for things to break, and then people yell at you when you don't fix it fast enough.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> I don't know. We don't have an exact count, yet. Still waiting on that data.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Smirks as she looks down at the girl.:: Better?

Hunter Matheson -> :;back to the McConaughey fingers:::

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> ::Takes her seat at the science station::

William Chocox -> Well, at least I'm still in the right body.

Tandaris Admiran -> ::glances at Chocox:: Oh yes, you're male again.

Hunter Matheson -> ::he keeps a close watch on their relative position, not wanting to lose any fighers because, you know that looks bad on the resume:::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::saying this as if he just noticed::

Tandaris Admiran -> How's that working out for you this time around?

Rhan K'hal -> :: starts getting general status data from the rest of the convoy and fleet, right on the button time-wise... gotta love it when you get a bunch of civilian operators properly versed in Fear of The Cait ::

Jas -> Hm, right... better get to it. Are there any PADDs lying around here?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Little girl> ::Slight nod, though she'd yet to let go of Maryse's leg.::

Hunter Matheson -> ::so what if we're not really here now... and we're really where we were before...:::

William Chocox -> I much prefer being in my own body.

Rhan K'hal -> :: receives the all clear from the flight wing :: Okay, that's done. Might as well leave us at the protocol distance, they'll be in and out all day for weeks.

Hunter Matheson -> ::...and does it really matter in the grand scheme... like, if we're all here and no one...::

Hunter Matheson -> Aye, sir. ::Rhan:: Maintaining standard spacing.

Hunter Matheson -> ::over his shoulder:: Birds in the bay, sir? ::Rhan::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> I hope he doesn't get too attached. We aren't keeping anything from the planet longer than we have to. ::Leans on her side console.::

Tandaris Admiran -> ::Chocox:: That is generally the accepted wisdom, but I'm glad to have some empirical data.

Tandaris Admiran -> Perhaps, though, we need to increase the sample size of your bodies….

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> Lt. Klein> Yea, around here somewhere. ::Starts pulling open drawers until he found the one where the data padds were stored. Pulls out the entire rack.:: Here, start handing these out to all of the security officers in this bay.

Rhan K'hal -> The ones that were coming in. Next launch should be in one hour, starting the rotation they've got set up.

Tandaris Admiran -> Hmm … we could devise some kind of body-switching device ….

Hunter Matheson -> Copy that.

William Chocox -> I'm good with the small sample size.

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> ::laughes:: Well, apparently, the locals have decided to give it to him as a Bee-trice is considered a great honot to be given, and since he's leading the effort to save them...

Jas -> Right away, sir ::grabs as many PADDs as he can carry and begins making his way around the cargo bay, distributing them to each of the security officers::

Rhan K'hal -> At least you've got some traffic to keep you sharp this time. I don't know how you can do it when it's hours of the occasional hydrogen atom floating by.

Hunter Matheson -> ;:..so... if we're all here... but we're not here, we're there... and no one notices, then it doesn't matter...::

Cptn Swain -> ((TWO MINUTE WARNING ))

Hunter Matheson -> ::wry grin:: You get used to it, Sir. Those atoms, they're first class. Can't fault 'em for that.

Rhan K'hal -> :: flips through the status reports, finding nothing amiss other than the POS still being a POS ::

Hunter Matheson -> So, an atom or two floating by, give 'em a salute, they salute back, then you know you're ready for retirement. ::smirk::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne -> ::Mutters.:: That's just great. Good thing he's got a yeoman to clean up after the thing.

Maryse Dubois -> ::Pats the girls head gently.:: Once we get an all clear, I'll take you to a couple of the other areas and see if we can find your family, alright?

Rhan K'hal -> :: shakes head :: No thanks, I'll stick with the multitasking. At least if it's going to drive me insane it'll be a nice, major breakdown.

Hunter Matheson -> ::...and who is that back there... and why is he in my squad...:::

Hunter Matheson -> Copy that, Sir. Multitasking it is.

Rhan K'hal -> :: and now back to looking for other locations in case the Cap'n doesn't like the binary brown dwarfs ::

William Chocox -> No offense sir.

Hunter Matheson -> ::Rhan:: Got a place we can hide these warp 4's sir?

Tandaris Admiran -> Yes, well, I suppose I understand.

Hunter Matheson -> LIke a nice asteroid belt full of reflective metal?

Rhan K'hal -> You want those big, clunky civilian ships to be doing asteroid belt diving? While they're full of tens of thousands of people?

Tandaris Admiran -> But still, not many human males get the chance to experience being a woman.

Hunter Matheson -> Well, probably not a good idea, now that you say it that way.

Tandaris Admiran -> Perspective. Now you have it.

Jas -> ::finishes handing out the PADDs, leaving him one of his own:: Time to get to work...

Hunter Matheson -> ::checkin' in with the Wasp again::

Cptn Swain -> Ithene> ::grins at Miranda::

Cptn Swain -> ...and...

Hunter Matheson -> ::wonders if it has a stinger::

Hunter Matheson -> ::or if it's even here::

William Chocox -> Well then.

Hunter Matheson -> ::McConaughey fingers::

Hunter Matheson -> ::..kinda glad he learned how to spell it::
