Logging into the Chatrooms with Chrome (a work around)

I use a Chromebook so I've had to do this for awhile but I hear that Chrome on Windows doesn't play nice now with the chatrooms. Here's a way to access the mobile client through Chrome.

1. Go to the chatroom tab on the main page, http://www.stsf.net/chats.php

2. Right click on the page and select Inspect Elements or ctrl+shift-i.

3. If you do not have a window at the top of the page that says Device, click on the icon along the middle control bar that looks like a phone. Should be right beside the magnifying glass.

4. In the Device panel click Select Model and choose a device with a large screen size.

5. Click on "Click Here to jump straight into STSF's chat room system and start simming!

6. Click on the center icon that says click to start chat room

You're now in the mobile client. One word of advice about that is make sure you sign directly into the chatroom you want as I've not seen how to navigate between chartooms once in.

Moving from chatroom to chatroom follows the conventions from IRC (Internet Relay Chat) very closely. It's the /join command except the # is not used. You issue this command on the same line you chat in and not the address bar.

/join <chatroomname>

Example:

/join talon

/join aegis

/join republic

And so on. All lowercase can be used.

The mobile client does have options for text size and color, emoticons, etc. Keep in mind private messages (PMs) don't popup into their own window.

Thank you, Kallah, this is great stuff if you happen to use a Chromebook, thanks for posting it!

In terms of a full PC, it does lead to the issues stated above, about room switching and PMs not popping up separately, so there is an alternate solution... Use Firefox or (gasp) Internet Explorer, they both work fine with the Java plug-in.

I know this may grate against some folks' preferences, but it is easier than invoking the mobile simming just to stay in Chrome as a browser for an hour. I use Chrome for all of my browsing, but I use Firefox for simming, just sayin'

I, also, have found it easier to use Firefox for simming purposes.
