Crash Calestorm

Extreme Moto

The following log is out of character knowledge, but it can be assumed the information will be conveyed in character by Captain Calestorm and Commander Wesley to the crew during our 4 day TBS…

July 8, 2261

Federation Border

USS Comanche Creek NCC-214

Upon the establishment of the training facilities and command offices, the New Topeka Home Guard initiative fell under the purview of the Starfleet Border Patrol. The men and women who joined typically started training under ROTC* and then moved onto the Guard. After a period of service lasting anywhere from four to eight years, the candidates then had a choice of discharge or rotating into the Starfleet for further service and training. As with any military organization, there were the rare occurrences where a nutter got through the psych evaluations.

Crash Calestorm read the preliminary SPB report on the shooter, using a thumb to scroll the details on the digital slate.

Subject: Carl Ford Guiteau

Affiliation: New Topeka Home Guard

Crime: Murder

“Why in the Hell do these guys always seem to sport three names? What was Guiteaus relationship with his team?” She directed her questions and attention to the two way visual feed set up between the SBP offices on New Topeka and the ‘Creek.

“The rumor among his current guard and former training squad was he was reliable. He could be on the Moto* side of enthusiasm, but no real problems.”

Crash couldn’t help quirking a playful eyebrow. “As I recall there was a rather Moto flight squad leader by the name of Coyote back in the day.”

Admiral Shauna Coyote pointed a finger at her line captain, “I never went around randomly yelling out motivational words and phrases, thank you very much.”

She chuckled and raised her hands in surrender. “I’m just messin’ with you, Admiral.” Then Calestorm sobered again and continued with, “So…this kid was Moto? I mean, yeah they can be a pain in the ass but that’s not exactly screaming out “hey let me shoot someone today!” Shauna. What, he just snap out that day?”

“The Topeka Guard are performing closed interviews with the squad mates. Guiteau’s enthusiasm took a dive after the explosion of the luxury liner in the Harrington sector. Colonel Tavington defecting to his unknown leadership position with the Dragoon cartel organization didn’t help. After the events surrounding Admiral Marcus and Khan* he felt he needed to send a message.”

“This is definitely the wrong way to send a message. I ain’t defending Tavvy, but the botched liner was the doing of Tavington’s Second for the Dragoon mercs. And there’s a lot of folks angry and at the former Colonel. Doesn’t mean we’re all gonna go out and start shooting.” The middle aged ship’s captain shook her head in the negative to emphasize her point.

The Native-American woman gave a tired smile. “I agree. Of course the press is going stark raving bonkers, especially after they got hold of that Blue Son translation in the official Starfleet response.”

“And the “Blue Sun” wasn’t a reference to the mercenary organization as originally assumed? It was Son as in the letter O?” Calestorm glanced at the data device as she asked the question, looking at the information displayed there.

The Blue Sons were a lesser known Union guerrilla and cavalry unit in the Earth American Civil War. After seeing action in the Spanish-American and two World Wars, the Sons weren’t to be used again until the Greater Russian Civil War of 2026.

“….and they had a pretty rigid honor code...This kid’s ancestor was a member during the units Civil War days?”

“Correct. Young Carl was invoking the honor of his ancestor as he decided to blow Tavington’s head off. He’ll be going away for a long time Crash.”
