Well, originally it was made with unknown actors, cheap special effects, and bulk discounts on red shirts.

everyone knows how it was made Gene Roddenberry was abducted by Vulcans and then made a show based on it

Gene described it as a "wagon train to the stars" We know space travel was a big thing back then. Westerns were also major TV hits. So I guess Gene combined the two.

In the beginning there was nothing, then God said, "let there be Trek" and it was so. And evermore, Nerds were eternally grateful. Amen.   :D

Appareltly you didn't do a real good job convincing him.  His first choice was Pike after all.

Gene Roddenberry envisioned a dream of space travel. He envisioned we would see new life and new civilizations. Warp drive may not be feasible now, but he envisioned that it could be possible to attain faster-than-light travel. But more importantly, he envisioned that most races and life forms could co-exist. And Startrek was the result.

Yeah, all that co-existance stuff was real optimistic. Already the Grays commit acts of war by abducting members of our species.

Since the Prime Directive specifically mentions warp drive as one of the criteria for making open First Contact I wonder what the lawyers would say about a society that travels faster than light through some other means.  I assume if those drafting the Prime Directive had meant "faster than light" they would have said so.

I'm not sure we did put aside our prejudices even in Star Trek.  It wasn't until The Next Generation that we started having more respect for the Klingons and a handful of Romulans.  And we still had bad feelings about the Ferengi even at the end of Deep Space Nine.

It looks to me like prejudice is still alive and well in the Star Trek universe.

Hey there,

It's kind of hard to not be prejudicial against someone who's bent on attempting to destroy you, what you stand for, etc.

As for the Ferengi, I disagree. TNG attempted to show them as a villian, but DS9 clearly turned the race into more of a comedy. I think it was interesting to see the Ferengi species develop.

Even TNG turned them into a laughable race. I think after the first episode, they were just too comical to be threatening.

Is comical any better than greedy?  At least when they were greedy they were taken serious.
